Teaching Assistants (TAs) play an essential role in the undergraduate education at University. Teaching assistantship is not only a job or responsibility but also part of the educational training which benefits TAs’ professional development. In order to ensure TA duties and training are assigned and provided appropriately, new TAs are streamed according to their previous learning experience:

New TAs (HK-graduates): new TAs who have studied in Hong Kong before and obtained a degree in any public universities in Hong Kong.

New TAs (non HK-graduates): new TAs who did NOT study in any universities in Hong Kong before.

New HK-graduate TAs and non HK-graduate TAs will start their TA duties in Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 respectively. To equip TAs for their TA duties, the TA Orientation and Induction Program is organized every Fall and Spring semester. It aims to:

Introduce the roles and responsibilities of TAs

Introduce the basic teaching and presentation skills to facilitate new TAs’ teaching at UST

Familiarize TAs with the teaching and learning resources at UST

Foster and enhance TAs’ communication with faculty, TACs and CELT

Enhance the professional development of TAs to prepare them for lifelong career development
