HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
COURSE OVERVIEW
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required toprovide CPR, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. This courseis suitable for those students requiring workplace first aid skills, those wanting to refresh existing skills or those who simply want to acquire alife saving skill.
The course is fully accredited nationally recognised training.
The course will teach you how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitationon adults, children and infants and emphasise how critically importantthe minutes before medical help arrives can be. The course will teachyou some basic theory behind cardiac conditions and the physiology ofthe heart and what happens when someone experiences SuddenCardiac Arrest. You will learn practically how to perform manual CPR.
COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal educational entry requirements, but participantsmust pass a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test prior to training.
You will need to perform a required duration of continued CPR on apractice manikin so we ask that you inform training staff if you have aproblem with your back or knees. While we can cater for this to someextent, remember you are practicing and being assessed on a skill that could be performed in any condition, anywhere.
You must be at least 14 years of age.

DURATION & STRUCTURE
The course is conducted face to face in a classroom based learningenvironment over four hours. You can attend the training at either of ourcampuses in Liverpool or Granville.
You will conduct a range of simulated activities, work in small groups andyou will need to complete a written assessment at the end of the courseto be deemed competent. You will also need to perform CPR on an adultand infant manikin for a set period uninterupted to be deemedcompetent.
Training runs regularly at both our venues: Granville every Wed from0900 and Liverpool every Saturday from 0900.
POTENTIAL JOB ROLES
This program has a very broad application in all sectors of the communityand all workplaces and industry. It does not directly lead to a defined employment outcome in its own right, but is a component of a set ofskills that can lead to employment or assist with maintaining conditionsof employment.
For example, all Nurses and Doctors need to refresh CPR annually as partof their ongoing Continuing Professional Development. Teachers and childcare workers also need to maintain currency, as do many otherworkplace First Aid and WHS positions.
We ask that you wear clothing that is comfortable and not too restrictiveto allow you to comfortably perform CPR and the recovery position.
You must wear enclosed footwear at all times while training with us.

This course is a single Unit of Competency in HLTAID001 Performcardiopulmonary resuscitation. You will learn the key skills requiredto competently perform CPR and defibrillation.
