• Houses all Remand, Short term, Long Term, Life, Sex Offender young people age 16-21 years in Scotland

• Capacity 760• Current numbers: 550• Current 16-18yrs numbers: 55 = 10% of population• Violent Incidents: average 8-11 per week• Minority carried out by 16-18yrs• 42 Incidents of Violence in January 2014• 3 Incidents involved weapons

What is HMYOI Polmont doing to tackle violence?

• Set up a Community Safety Unit • Driven by SPS Anti-violence Strategy• Underpinned by the 16 National Outcomes• Change of Name• Staffing: 1 Manager and 2 Officers• Partnership working: Youth Group Barnardos, VRU, MAV, Respect Me, SFRS….• Tackling violence and conflict within the Prison• Educating and developing coping skills for alternatives to violence

What is HMYOI Polmont doing to implement Restorative Practices?

• 2006 Partnership agreement with SACRO• 2013 refresher training in Restorative conversations & meetings• 22 Staff trained to date• 12 Staff due to complete in March 2014• 6 staff due to complete Training for trainers in Restorative conversations in April 2014• From December 2013 40 cases out to referral for RJ Meetings• 14 cases completed
