These intra-building ports of the equipment or subassembly must not be metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the OSP or its wiring. These interfaces are described for use as intra-building interfaces only (Type 2 or Type 4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and require isolation from the exposed OSP cabling. The addition of Primary Protectors is not suffi-cient protection in order to connect these interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.

Warning
Read the safety information in Appendix D thoroughly before installing this equipment. Failure to follow this safety information can lead to personal injury or damage to the equip-ment.
Fiber Optic Ports - Optical Safety. Never look at the transmit LED/laser through a magnifying device while it is powered on. Never look directly at the fiber port or fiber cable ends when they are powered on.
Caution
To avoid degradation of optical-fiber signals and poor system performance, follow appropriate local practices to ensure that optical-fiber connector ends are clean and free from contamination. Always install the provided dust covers on transceiver optical ports and connector ends that are not being used.
Caution
Power Warning This device contains connectors for two power sources. Disconnect all power sources before servicing.

Caution
To avoid degradation of optical-fiber signals and poor system performance, follow appropriate local practices to ensure that optical-fiber connector ends are clean and free from contamination. Always install the provided dust covers on transceiver optical ports and connector ends that are not being used.

4.3.1 Outside Plant 2BASE-TL Primary ProtectorsThe HN4000 is expected to be installed with primary protectors on the outside plant 2BASE-TL copper pairs. The primary protectors should have a voltage limiting capability of approximately 600V at 1000V/s.Hatteras Networks recommends a primary protector with characteristics similar to the Bourns 455HS-BC as shown in the following table. In addition to its protection capabilities, the 455HS-BC is well balanced for use in 2BASE-TL applications.
