In the summer of 2008, I made the short trip down to Lake Havasu for the first time. Inretrospect, I’m still wondering why I’d not gone sooner since I’ve lived in this region foreighteen years.

What I found was a winding desert road leading into the picturesque valley where LakeHavasu resides. Everywhere I went, the town was welcoming beyond any anticipation youcould imagine. Whether we’re talking about the Lake Havasu Yacht Club or the Lake HavasuConvention and Visitors Bureau and everyone in between, it was clear that they wouldwelcome the Hobie Class back with open arms.

Ever since that time, we’ve been steadily planning for this fabulous event, to return to largeHobie racing events on the southernmost reservoir of the Colorado River system. It has been agreat pleasure working with all who are laboring to make this a world class sailing adventurefor the participants.

If you look back in the Hobie HOTLINE, you’ll find issue upon issue with large articlesabout the huge Hobie events in Havasu during the heyday of Hobie Cat racing in theSouthwest. Many who are coming this November have been there before in those years. OurHavasu & Hobie Reunited Regatta in February was the first time back again after a ten yearabsence. Once again, the colorful Hobie sails covered the lake. I can only say this: yourattendance at HAVAMEGA will be part of history, bringing back a grand legacy of Hobiecatracing to Lake Havasu, and bringing it back with a bang! It has been an exciting year for mewatching the registration numbers grow. Furthermore, it has been an even greater thrill tospend time on the phone, online and at regattas talking with everyone who is planning oncoming. We’ll have participants from throughout North America, as well as overseas.

Thanks to all of you who have been spreading the enthusiasm for this event, and for makingplans to spend a week at Lake Havasu this November. I hope our party lives up to, or perhapsexceeds your expectations.
