NCAA TOURNAMENT TEAMS

NATIONAL TEAMSNATIONAL TEAMS

For nearly three decades, the Western Michi-gan Broncos have played the best teams in college hockey — and on occasion — helped U.S. National Teams prepare for Olympic and international competition through exhibi-tions.

A Bill Horn tends goal against Team USA on its 1988 pre-Olympic Tour — the last Olympic team consisting of all collegian players.

B/C The Broncos helped christen Battle Creek’s Kellogg Center in 1982 with an exhi-bition against the U.S. Open National Cham-pions.

D In December of 1984, WMU represented the U.S. at the World Games III Tournament, held at the Kellogg Center. The Broncos fell to Spartak, the first Soviet athletic team to compete in the U.S. since the Russian boy-cott of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games held several months earlier.

E/F Team USA’s first appearance in Lawson Arena took place in 1975 during the pre-Olympic tour for the Innsbrook Games. The Americans were coached by the legendary Bob Johnson (second from the right).

G/H Jeff Reynaert, representing the U.S., was named Best Goaltender at the 2002 IIHF In-Line Hockey World Championship. A member of four U.S. squads, Reynaert led the Ameri-cans to a gold medal at the 2004 In-Line Hockey World Championship and a bronze at the 2003 and 2005 tournaments.
