FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Round five of the 2020 Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series took place Friday night at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL. It turned into a yearly tradition for the series to visit the Land of Lincoln for the Labor Day weekend. Friday night was the second of three nights of racing for the tour.

Things got underway with SPEC Racing Engines qualifying. Out of 44 cars to take on the clock it was Mike McKinney who put down the fastest lap with a time of 14.533 seconds. This set the field for four heat races that would line the field up for the 30-lap main event.

Hypercoils heat race one got the racing action underway on Friday night. Nick Hoffman started on the pole and ran away with the opening heat race of the night. Will Krup came home runner up, Victor Lee third and after starting tenth Curt Spalding got the final transfer spot.

In the second heat race presented by Willy’s Carb & Dyno defending Farmer City track champion Allen Weisser took the win. Ashmore, IL driver Danny Schwartz came home in second, David Stremme and Brandon Bollinger came home third and fourth.

In the Fast Shafts sponsored heat race three Mike McKinney kept up his Farmer City dominance with his 11th heat race win of the year on the quarter-mile oval. Jeff Leka came home in the runner up spot after starting fourth. Kewanee, IL driver Ray Bollinger came home third and Keith Smith fourth.

Final heat race of the night presented by AERO Wheels was a battle between Mike Harrison and Chris Arnold. Harrison was able to pick up the win with Arnold in second. John Clippinger and Kyle Hammer were the final cars to transfer from heat race action.

It took a pair of B-Main to set the remaining field for the 30-lap main event. Larry Anderson took home the first B-Main with Jacob Rexing taking the other spot in the A-Main. B-Main number two saw a whale of a charge from Late Model ace Bobby Pierce. After troubles in his heat race he rallied from the thirteenth starting spot to win. The other transfer spot went to Michael Bolyard.

Starting on the pole Nick Hoffman had a hand up on the rest of the field as he was able to get out front early on and never look back cruising to the $2,500 payday Friday night. Allen Weisser tried to stay with Hoffman early but slide back a few spots towards the middle stages of the event. Close to halfway Mike McKinney got up to the runner up position and tried to run Nick down as they diced through lap traffic. Mike Harrison was one of the lone drivers in the field trying to use the top line and several times was able to get side by side with second but could never make the pass and settled in for the third place finish. Will Krup came home in the four position. Will quietly stayed in contention throughout the thirty-lap affair. Allen Weisser held on for fifth. The hard charger of the night Tyler Nicely started twenty-first and come home ninth.
