CO2 Certificate NEW: the “Hof Chalets” “Indulgence” island in the Einkehr pond

Dear friends of the Trattlerhof!

With the 4th edition of the Trattlers Hofpost, we would like to share some established and some new facts, and also some ideas

for the future for our hotel. True to the motto “best holiday experiences with Alpine charm”, we preserve all the same popular offers while gently developing new ones. We constantly evaluate our long-standing offers to determine if they are worth continuing or if they should be reshaped in line with our philosophy. As Gustav Mahler once said: “Tradition is not to preserve the ashes but pass on the flame”. At the same time, the Trattlerhof will always be suited for the next generation and for all other guests thus ensuring a higher quality experience. This is quite logical, being located directly at the “UNESCO Nockberge Biosphere Reserve”, where the coexistence of man and nature in our beautiful region is in the focus. Whether an active or relaxed summer or a romantic and cozy winter, we would like to be your first choice in the Alpine region. Come visit us (again) at the Trattlerhof. Let yourself be pampered by the Trattlers Hofpeople and delighted by our hospitality – a now 132 year tradition. for 132 years

Sustainability is a matter of course & a matter of obligation

here at the Trattlerhof. The amount of CO2 savings per year offsets the CO2 emissions of guests arriving by car or plane each year thus allowing you to enjoy a “climate neutral” stay. Hotel guests are also given a CO2 certificate. During your vacation, there are also many ecological offers you can take ad-

vantage of – from e-bikes to the electric Mercedes, which will take you to a swimming excursion on the lake with complete CO2 neu-trality.

Over the past 130 years, the Forstnig family has transfor-med the “Trattlerkeusche”, a simple inn, into a sophisticated 4-star hotel. Tradition is upheld as is a susta-inable, future-oriented outlook in the historical Trattlerhof. The Trattlerhof has often had the spotlight of history cast upon it such as when Josef Paul Zopf stopped by in 1737.

Birgit and Jakob Forstnig Jr. are the 5th generation of hotel hosts, who run the hotel with friendly hospitality and Alpine charm. Diverse, exciting expe-riences for all generations make the Trattlerhof an unforgettable vacation destination in summer and winter.

Many attractionsIn addition to the hotel itself, the Forstnig family also provi-des guests with a variety of invi-

ting attractions and offers inclu-ding the pony farm and riding stables, the rustic hut restaurant “Trattlers Einkehr”, and the next project, the “Hof Chalets”.

Sustainability – an important objective Those who are close to nature and those who live from and with nature such as the Forst-nig family can only do so with the highest degree of sustainable thinking for the future.

The hotelier family has been awarded several times for their exemplary dedication to clima-te protection and sustainability. They have taken many measures to reduce the ecological foot-print. The hotel’s own hydro-power station was built over 20 years ago and produces more electricity than is used in the hotel.

Compared to other standard hotels, the Trattlerhof saves around 250,000 kg of CO2 . The conservation of resources has a long tradition here with the aim of preserving the intact environ-ment in all its glory as the most important commodity. There is also another special feature here: the Trattlerhof issues CO2

certificates to its guests. Come to the Trattlerhof and return home with a good environmental con-science.

Go on vacation and receive a CO2 certificate from your hosts - the Trattlerhof is Austria’s first hotel to be able to do this. The reason: the outstanding sustainable operations throughout the hotel.

The 4th “Charity Wine & Golf Cup” was in a class of its own.

For two days, gourmets and golf fans experienced a colorful vari-ety of events at the Trattlerhof. It started on Friday with a gala eve-ning. In addition to a wine tasting by Erich & Walter Polz (Southern Styria) & Weingut Wellanschitz (Burgenland), around 80 guests enjoyed a Gössl folk costume fa-shion show including Miss Carin-thia Franziska Sumberaz. On Saturday, golfers showed off their skills with the 4th tourna-ment at the Bad Kleinkirchheim Golf Club. The evening awards ce-

guests another opportunity to en-joy a personal, individual vacation in their own chalet in addition to the 4-star hotel. The rustic chalets will be designed in the regional Nockalm style and equipped with all the comforts. They promise you a vacation in the middle of nature. The spacious chalets (ca. 85 and 100 m2) are arranged for guests who would like more individu-ality on their vacation, and this includes families with children as well as couples looking for a ret-reat. Hotel service is offered, and you can enjoy dining at the near-

remony, the sophisticated tasting menu, and the wine & rarity auc-tion to benefit the SOS Children’s Village in Moosburg constituted the crowning conclusion.

by restaurant “Trattlers Einkehr”. The Trattlerhof offers including the riding offer are available to the guests of the Hof Chalets. Just like in the Trattlerhof, the experiences and feelings we had as a child will be brought to life for guests in the chalets: the smell of freshly baked bread, the taste of smoked trout that you caught yourself, children playing in the village square, and bathing in the wooden tub under the shining stars. Many such me-mories of the good life as a child will be brought to life for guests at the Hof Chalets, and this is what makes this kind of vacation a spe-cial experience.

Enjoyment. Golfing. Doing something good. In 2015, the 4th “Charity Wine & Golf Cup” took place at the Trattlerhof. The proud result: EUR 4,000 in benefit of the SOS Children’s Village in Moosburg.

Construction for the new chalet village is scheduled to start in autumn 2016. The 14 chalets will be per-fectly located right next to the Maibrunn ski run. They promise new vacation experiences with typical Trattlerhof quality.

Whether riding lessons, pony rides, trail rides in the Nockberge moun-tains around Bad Kleinkirchheim, or simply visiting the Trattlerhof horses in the paddock, horse lo-vers will certainly get their money’s worth in summer and winter. The Trattlerhof “herd” consists of 8 Warmbloods, Icelandic horses, No-riker horses, and ponies. They each have a new stall right next to the riding stables and paddock.

Horse-drawn carriage rides One main attraction – for families as well as couples in love – is our horse-drawn carriage ride. In sum-mer, the beautiful landscape will leisurely pass you by, and guests

can see the Nockberge mountains from a completely new point of view. In winter, you can experience a pure idyll on a horse-drawn carri-age ride as the horses pull the carri-age through snow-covered nature.

There are two tours – the “can-dlelight experience ride” and the

“luxury carriage experience” tours – that we especially recommend. Included in the tour is a stop at “Trattlers Einkehr”, where culinary treats are awaiting you.

Pony farm for kids“Trattlers Einkehr” is a paradise

with ponies as your lovable com-panions. Once a week, ponies ac-company guests on a torch-lit hike from the Trattlerhof to the Einkehr, where you can enjoy dinner. With the “Family Experience” package, you can groom the ponies or ride them on a lunge through a special course.

Horse Experience

Horses – from sweet po-nies and Icelandic hor-ses to Warmbloods and sturdy Noriker horses – are inseparably connec-ted to the Trattlerhof.

“The challenge of climate change – what do we do?”“Impulse on the Mountain” is the name of the tra-ditional dialogue series at the Trattlerhof. Among other things, the issue of climate change was the fo-cus last summer.

For the 40th time, the Trattler-hof hosted the “Impulse on the

Mountain” dialogue series in Octo-ber 2015.

Once a month, prominent figures and experts address special themes from the areas of literature, sci-ence, medicine, art, culture, tradi-tion, and spirituality. For example, beekeeper Herbert Garnitschnig addressed the subject of “Bees at the Intersection of Modern Agri-culture”.

Scientist Gudrun Weisz (University of Applied Sciences in Vienna) pre-sented her version of the “Big Bang and the Origin of Space and Time”. Ski jump training legend Baldur Preiml spoke about the “Fascinati-on of the Mountains”.

Farmer Karin Schabus (Biohof Seidl) told of the challenges of a “Woman Farmer in the Mountains” as well as ecological orientation

and certified organic farms. “CO2 Balance and Carbon Footprint” was the theme of Roland Fehringer from Denkstatt GmbH in Vienna, and he addressed the challenge of climate change as well as the Tratt-lerhof and its sustainable system.

He discussed the CO2 footprint of the Trattlerhof, which thanks to the hotel’s own hydropower plant and Bad Kleinkirchheim’s biomass heat production, is positive.

The next “Impulse on the Moun-tain” will take place in December 2015 as well as in January, Febru-ary, and March 2016 and starting May 2016 every month throughout the summer.

Splendid mountain diversityBad Kleinkirchheim is located in the middle of the Nockberge mountains. The mountain land-scape with its many streams and mountain lakes as well as the lar-gest spruce, larch, and pine fo-rests in the Eastern Alps is unique throughout Europe. In 2012, the Nockberge mountains were desi-gnated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The Nockberge hikes are an important matter for Tratt-lerhof hotelier Jakob Forstnig.

Throughout the entire summer, hiking is always on the pro-

gram, which surprises guests with special highlights and rewards them with unforgettable experien-ces. At the start of one of the hikes, the Trattlerhof organized a welco-ming with an accordion player and aperitifs served from horseback.

In 2016, there will also be such hi-kes with a surprise factor.

nock/art hiking trailsSix special hiking routes were desi-gnated as nock/art hiking trails in 2015, because they make the Alpi-

ne nature around Bad Kleinkirch-heim accessible in unique ways. With various starting points, they lead to special places around town in the Nockberge mountains. They are also equipped with a va-riety of informative elements and offer artistic benches where you can rest in exceptionally beautiful spots. nock/art is an art & culture initiative that has existed for sever-al years that aims to allow guests to get to know the Nockberge moun-tains from other perspectives.

The Bad Kleinkirchheim lifts are also dedicated to the theme of art & culture on the mountain.

New hiking ideas in the Nockberge Mountains

Exquisite wine enjoyment on the mountain

Hikes on the Wöllaner Nock, the Klomnock, the Predigerstuhl, or the Falkert are a special experience with their high-altitude trails from summit to summit. If you prefer a more laid-back “climb”, the lifts will quickly take you up the Kaiserburg or Brunnach-Höhe. Thanks to the Kärnten Card, rides on the lifts are free for Trattlerhof guests.

Highlights in summerThis past summer, numerous prominent vintners accepted the Forstnig family’s invitation to join them at the Trattlerhof. Erich and Walter Polz from Southern Styria with their fine wines were guests at the Trattlerhof as were as was winery Domäne Müller.

Weingut Wellanschitz and Weingut Tesch from Neckenmarkt were also represented as was Winzerhof Sax from Kamptal in Lower Austria, and winegrowing pioneer Erwin Gartner from Carinthia. Each presented a hand-picked selection of their best wines.

Wine Enjoyment on the Mountain

Whether surprise hikes offered by “Berggenießer” hosts or the six nock/art hiking trails – enjoyable hiking is THE attraction for Trattlerhof guests bet-ween May and October.

Since 2011, “Winemakers on the Mountain” has been the motto of the special Trattlerhof wine week-ends, which take place in winter and in summer and provide an attractive program.

Tip: The latest news and dates for our hiking program are available at www.trattlerhof.at. You will find regular Berggenießer tips to make your hiking experience special.

In winter 2015/16, we are bringing winemakers up to our mountain peak. “The first item on the program will be skiing with them before enjoying a wine tasting in one of the mountain restaurants. In summer, we will go on hikes with the vintners followed by a wine tasting on the summit”, says hotelier Jakob Forstnig of his newest wine ideas. Otherwise, the traditio-nal Trattlerhof wine weekends will retain their character. Friday: weekend opening tasting. Saturday: tasting menu in the rustic atmosphere of “Tratt-lers Einkehr”.

Culinary highlights on the new “pleasure” island on the Einkehr pond

Lederhosen and traditional dress bring “delicious advantages” every Wednesday

Einkehr in Summer

“Trattlers Einkehr” with new “indulgence” island

While countless trout swim in the blue-green waters

of the pond, since summer 2015, you have the opportunity to enjoy all the culinary creations from the

Einkehr kitchen right on the water in the middle of the pond.

This new object of desire is called the “indulgence” island

and is an open-air guest garden in

the middle of the Einkehr pond. The water in the pond comes from the “Talkenbrunn” spring, which also supplies the delicious drinking water.

“Einkehr” – culinary meeting pointWith the “Einkehr”, the Trattler-hof brings rustic hut romance di-rectly to Bad Kleinkirchheim. The cozy hut restaurant is the culinary branch of the Trattlerhof that offers lunch and dinner. In summer and winter, the Einkehr attracts visitors with its wonderful sunny terrace and comfortable dining lounge. The kitchen promises a colorful mixture of regional delicacies, ex-cellent steaks, delicious Carinthian “Reindling” cake, and pizza spe-cialties and burgers, which are po-pular with the kids.

Additional highlights include freshly caught trout from our own pond and grilled specialties from a futuristic-looking, green ceramic charcoal grill with the appropriate name “Big Green Egg”.

Quality-approved as a “Genuss-Wirt” and awarded with 81 points and one fork by the Falstaff Gui-de, “Trattlers Einkehr” has been a culinary benchmark in Bad Klein-kirchheim for decades.

In winter 2015/16, a vast array of culinary highlights are on the

program. A variety of producers of special delicacies are invited to the Einkehr including Wolfram Ortner with high-quality schnapps. Alois Planner & Klaus Feistritzer, the

Culinary art on the Mountainbrilliant minds behind Loncium beer in Kötschach-Mauthen, are also invited to be a part of the “Cuisine on the Mountain” program.

You can find the current program at:www.trattlerhof.at

Throughout the winter and also next summer starting at 6:00

pm on “Lederhosen Wednesday”, stylish guys and gals of every age will be rewar-ded with deli-cious cuisine in the Einkehr when they come dressed in Lederhosen or other tra-ditional dress such as the dirndl.

As a rustic hut restaurant, the Einkehr is per-fectly suited

for such an evening in which tra-ditional costumes are the center of attention. An appropriate mood is also created for Lederhosen Wed-

nesday with an accordion player.

In terms of culinary treats, the Einkehr team goes all out on this parti-cular evening and serves more regio-nal Carinthi-an delicacies than ever.

Sun enjoyment and skiing go hand in hand. The location of

the Einkehr down below in the val-ley has a key advantage – after en-joying yourself and soaking up the sun, you don’t have to snap on your skis again and ski back down into the valley. After an active day of skiing or a magnificent winter hike, the Einkehr’s sunny terrace is an ideal place for those seeking relaxation. Especially in March, the pleasant temperatures invite you to enjoy après-ski with live music in the relaxing lounge atmosphere under the clear blue sky.

Skiing. Music. Chilling.

The Einkehr – just for kids

All winter long, the Einkehr, easily reachable in the valley,

promises skiers, winter hikers, or wellness lovers an exquisite hut feeling.

The weekly party highlight bears the catchy name “Music, Skiing, &

Chilling”. You can enjoy relaxing après ski right on the slopes in the hut lounge with an outdoor bar.

You can find details about “Music, Skiing, & Chilling” as well as the current weekly program at: www.trattlers-einkehr.at

For years, pizza baking for kids has been the culinary activi-

ty highlight for young chefs. The pizza baking courses for kids are always extremely popular. And if you have ever participated in this course, you will be excited and rea-dy to bake pizza again. Of course, aside from pizza baking, there are many other exciting of-fers: torch-lit hikes with ponies and

horses from the hotel to the Ein-kehr, campfires, and the pony farm, which is open again this year in the winter. Even in winter, you can groom the ponies or lead them through the parcours. The children can also bake pony cookies.

Church is tranquil and contempla-tive just as it was in earlier times. Traditional handcrafts, festive mu-sic, nativity scenes, and many sur-prises will make the children’s eyes light up in excitement and wonder.
