Port Blair, Dec 15 The Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India, Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar arrived on a five day visit to the A&N Islands today. Soon after arrival, the Minister held a review meeting on the issues concerning Centrally Sponsored Schemes running under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment with the Secretaries/Senior Officers of theA&N Administration dealing with the subject of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) and Other Backward Classes, in the conference hall of Megapode Resort here. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Chetan B. Sanghi, Director General of Police, Shri Dependra Pathak, Principal Secretary, Shri Vikram Dev Dutt and other Senior Officers of the A&N Administration were present in the review meeting. MoS for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar arrives In his address on the occasion, the Minister said, the presence of the Chief Secretary and the senior officers of the A&N Administration in this review meeting reflects the sensitivity and concern of the Administration towards the upliftment and welfare of the Divayangjans of A&N Islands. The Minister said, it is heartening to note that all the Central Govt. schemes and the schemes of UT meant for the welfare of the Divayangjans are being implemented in true letter & spirit and with dedication in this Union Territory. The Minister said that as per the new Act notified in 2016 for Divyanjans, 14 more disabilities have been added so that Govt. can help more divyangjans. The Minister also congratulated the A&N Administration and the Social Welfare Department under it for taking lead in implementation of the schemes such as Sugamya Bharat, establishment of Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Unique Disability Identity Card (UDID) & Scholarship Schemes in these Islands as compared to other states. Referring to the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) which is being established here, the Minister said, once established, this Centre will cater to all the needs of Divyangs of these Islands under one roof. He said that 'Unique Disability Identity Cards' which are being issued to the divyangs here will be valid all over India. The Minister also praised the Secretary Transport for making sixty percent of public transport buses in the Isles accessible for PwDs and the Director General of Police for his efforts towards containing the drug menace in the UT and also for receiving the award of 'Best Police Station in the Country'. The Minister directed for starting the Composite Regional Centre soon, doubling the skill development trainings for the Divyangs through NGOs and Skill Training Institutes and also for filling up the vacancies meant for Divyangs in govt. Departments. The Minister further urged the Administration to identify the children with hearing impairment under the age group of 5 to 6 years so that they can be covered under the free Cochlear Implant scheme of Govt. of India. At the outset, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Chetan B. Sanghi welcomed the Minister by presenting him a shawl and memento. Chennai, Dec 15 Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has begun preparatory works for setting up a third rocket launch pad in the small coastal hamlet of Kulashekhrapattinam in the Thuthukudi district of Tamil Nadu. At present, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has two launch pads at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The demand for additional launch pads has arisen as a result of the increase in the number of satellite launches from India, both for domestic and international customers. ISRO says that it had launched as many as 17 missions in 2018 alone. Recently, Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Jitendra Singh had told in a written reply in Rajya Sabha that the government had a proposal to set up a rocket launching pad near Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu. Port Blair, Dec 15 Under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), financial assistance on various approved/ recommended components are being provided to the farmers of these Islands by the Agriculture Department, for doubling their income. The 'Construction of Threshing Floor-cum-Drying Yard' is promoted by providing maximum admissible Financial Assistance to farmers under RKVY by Agriculture Deptt. subsidy/assistance @ 33.33% of total approved cost to support building of infrastructure for post- harvest management through solar drying. Since 2011-12, a total of 316 Farmers of these Islands have been benefitted so far under this scheme with total subsidy to the tune of Rs 1, 59, 69,264/- and Rs. 159.69 lakhs have been released to them. During the current financial year 2019-20, an amount of Rs.25,36,696/- has already been sanctioned to provide assistance to 48 farmers for construction of threshing floor-cum-drying yard and further 19 cases are under consideration for release of subsidy In order to avail the assistance for the construction of threshing floor-cum-drying yard Port Blair, Dec 15 The Field Operations Division of National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Govt of India is organizing a Regional Training Camp (78th Round) from Dec 17 to 19, 2019 in its office premises. During the camp, necessary training will be imparted to the officials to carry out the Socio- Economic Survey of 78th Round. This round is NSO to train officials to carry out Socio-Economic Survey Regional Training Camp from Dec 17 to 19 earmarked for survey on 'Domestic Tourism Expenditure' and 'Multiple Indicator Survey'. In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 20 urban blocks and 28 villages will be surveyed during the period from January 2020 to December 2020. The topic of discussion will be 'Research Methodology and Clinical Research Perspectives with Homoeopathic Management'. Homoeopathic doctors including AYUSH professionals and private homoeopathic practitioners/ Clinicians of the Islands will be attending the programme as delegates. Two days National Level CME programme by CRU Port Blair, Dec 15 A DBT funded project on Biotech Kisan-Hub was established at Division of Animal Science, ICAR- Central Island Agricultural Research Institute with the main aim for dissemination of livestock and poultry production technologies for enhancing the farmers' income of A&N Islands and Lakshadweep. The objective of the programme is doubling the farmers' income through implementation of two activities such as training and demonstration of mini incubator for supply of chicks and scientific goat farming. The Hub will act as a Nodal centre and as the platform for interaction of scientist & farmers to address the issues of development of backyard livestock and poultry sector of the Island farmers. CIARI to train farmers under 'Kisan-Hub' activities Port Blair, Dec 15 The Anthropological Survey of India, Ministry of Culture, GoI, A&N Regional Centre, Port Blair organized an awareness programme on 'Disaster Preparedness', in collaboration with the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration in its seminar hall recently. The Director, Disaster Management, A&N Administration, Shri Govind Ram was the chief guest on the occasion. The Safety ASI organizes awareness prog. on disaster preparedness Officer, Shri Deen Mohammad and Assistant Director, Logistics, Shri Gyan Singh were also the present on the occasion.
