Congratulations to the 8th grade band stu-dents from Simmons and Holgate on earn-ing a "Gold Award" in this year's Gypsy Day Parade and for win-ning 1st place at the Lake Region Marching Band Festival in Groton!!!
“COATS FOR KIDS AND OTHER FOLK”
The annual Coats for Kids giveaway is Saturday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at North Highland United Methodist Church, 620 15th Ave. NE. Coats, snow pants, mittens and gloves will all be available. Pastor Lou Whitmer at North Highland (226-1279) is the contact person if you have questions.
SPOOF. It’s become the latest TV reality show craze! In “American Idle,” contest-
ants vie for the honor of becoming America’s number-one high school slacker.
Host Brian Seacrest takes us through rounds of hilarious auditions, mind-bending
challenges, and brutal eliminations. Along the way, contestants compete to impress
three judges with their supreme slacker skills—an inarticulate school janitor; a nas-
ty, condescending guidance counselor; and a spacey drama teacher. But in the end,
the biggest slackers of all may be the TV viewers themselves, who have become
too lazy to vote for a winner!
On November 19th and 20th, at 7:00 P.M., you can see a cast of Holgate Middle School students performing this hilarious play in our very own theater. Come and enjoy an evening of laughter and fun!
Admission: $2.00 Adults/$1.00 Students/5 and under free

www.shoparoo.com/ or you can go to the app store on your cell phone and look up Shoparoo. The picture for
the app is this:
For Shoparoo - you scan all receipts (Groceries, gas, fastfood, everything) and you get points or entries for
monthly drawings, all to benefit the school/PTA. You can scan your Ken's and Kesslers receipts on Shopa-
roo for points AND turn the receipts in to the school and we get to use them twice.

PARENTS MATTER
Establish open communication. Make it easy for your teen to talk honestly with you. Show you care. Even though teens may not show it, they still need to know that they are important to their
parents. Make it a point to regularly spend one-on-one time with your child. Draw the line. Set clear, realistic expectations for your child’s behavior. Establish appropriate consequences
for breaking rules and consistently enforce them. Offer acceptance. Make sure your teen knows that you appreciate his or her efforts as well as accomplish-
ments. Avioid hurtful teasing or criticism. Understand that your child is growing up. This doesn’t mean a hands-off attitude. As you guide your child’s
behavior, also make an effort to respect his or her growing need for independence and privacy.
YOUNG CITIZENSHIP AWARD
Izzie Sanchez and Luke Jacobs were selected as recipients of the Young Citizen-ship Award given by the Aberdeen Ex-change Club. Izzie and Luke consistently demonstrate unselfish service to others, good citizenship, and helpful and caring attitude, academic achievement, leader-ship and sportsmanship. Congratulations, Izzie and Luke!
