Holiday Activity Clubs at Abbot’s Hill School

Welcome to the Abbot’s Hill School Holiday Activity Clubs, suitable for girls and boys aged between 5 and 14 years old. Operating within a safe, structured and friendly environment, the aim of our Holiday Activity Clubs is to ensure that the children who attend them have fun, make new friends and learn new skills!Our holiday clubs will run for 2 weeks at Easter (excluding Bank Holidays) and for 4 weeks during the summer. Children can attend one course in the morning / afternoon or can stay all day by booking two courses, however, a minimum booking of one week applies. There are supervised lunch breaks for children who are with us all day and we also run early and late clubs, enabling greater flexibility for working parents.

Meet the TeamKay VorleyDirector of Holiday Activity ClubsKay joined the school in February 2017 and works as our HR Manager. Kay has previous experience of working with Holiday Clubs and divides her time between her full time HR role at the school, whilst being fully committed to directing, planning and developing our Holiday Activity Clubs. She provides a hands-on approach to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Gill Rance Assistant Director of Holiday Activity ClubsGill is our Domestic Bursar and has worked with us for 24 years. Gill manages two departments at the school and has a variety of responsibilities, including Health and Safety. She also oversees many school and external functions and events. Gill assists with the running of the Holiday Activity Clubs.

Our StaffOur staff are carefully selected for their professionalism, inspiration and enthusiasm! Many of our Holiday Club leaders are teachers at Abbot’s Hill or experts in their own field. They are assisted by dedicated helpers employed especially for the Holiday Activity Clubs. All staff are fully DBS checked and have met safeguarding requirements.

A summer brochure will be available in February 2019 with booking opening on 18 April 2019.

Each club runs for five half days, with the exception of Easter week 2, which runs for four half days. Children can either attend one club in the morning/afternoon or can stay all day. Children attending all day must book two clubs. A minimum booking of one week applies to each club.

Morning clubs run from 9.30am – 12.30pm.Afternoon clubs run from 1.30pm - 4.30pm.

Children should not be dropped off any earlier than 20 minutes before the start of their clubs and must be collected promptly at finish time, unless they are booked into our early/late clubs.

Lunchtimes & BreaksEach of the clubs has a 15 minute break half way through, so please ensure your child brings a snack and a drink with them.

There is a supervised lunch break between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. Only children attending all day clubs are entitled to stay for lunch.

All children must bring a packed lunch (no nuts allowed) and drink with them as there will be no catering facilities on site.

Early and Late ClubsTo enable greater flexibility for working parents, we offer early and late clubs for children attending our Holiday Activity Clubs.

Our early club operates from 8.00am until 9.30am and our late club operates from 4.30pm until 6.00pm. The charge for each of these clubs is £2.50 per child per session, or £4.50 per child for both early and late sessions on the same day. Children must be booked into these clubs in advance, at the same time their Activity Club bookings are made.In emergencies, we may be able to accommodate last minute bookings but this cannot be guaranteed.

Children attending the late club must be collected no later than 6.00pm. In the case of unavoidable emergencies, please contact us on 07547 967373.

Bookings & Payments

The age range for each club is an indication of suitability. When booking, please use the age that your child(ren) will be at the start of the course.

A booking form can be found at the back of this brochure. Please complete a separate booking form for each child.

When making your child’s booking, please com-plete the form fully, ensuring that you include the title of the activity and the reference number. You should also indicate a second choice of ac-tivity; this will only be used if your first choice is full. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

It is imperative that you complete the Medical Details section in full, as bookings will not be accepted without this information.

Completed booking forms should be re-turned to: The Director of Holiday Activity Clubs, Abbot’s Hill School, Bunkers Lane, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, HP3 8RP or by email to [email protected].

Once your booking has been received, you will receive a confirmation email. Following this, payment will be required within 3 working days to secure the booking. The preferred method of payment is by Bank Transfer; you will receive full details of how to pay in your confirmation email.

Childcare Vouchers We are registered with a variety of childcare voucher providers, so you can use your childcare vouchers as full or part payment for our Activity Clubs. Please note that childcare voucherpayments can take up to 7 working days to reach us, so if you choose to use this method, your child’s place on the activity is provisional until full payment has been received.

Refund Policy

All Holiday Activity Club bookings are subject to a 7 day cooling-off period during which a full refund will be issued if you change your mind. After this period, no refunds will be issued for cancellations (with the exclusion of exceptional circumstances, at the absolute discretion of the Director of Holiday Clubs).

Aquatics Age 10 – 14

Swimming is an excellent life skill for children to learn and a brilliant way for them to exercise. If you love swimming and would like to develop your ability and technique, then this activity will be perfect for you. Throughout the week, you’ll be taught by an experienced swimming teach-er in our beautifully refurbished swimming pool; you’ll learn some exciting new skills and round the week off with a gala! Please note: you must be confident in swimming 25m without support and treading water for at least 30 seconds. Kit List: Swimming kit and towel

Art & Craft Age 5 – 8

Our newly refurbished art room is an ideal setting for you to realise your arty crafty skills! We will inspire your imagination and nurture your creativity with fun, hands-on arts and crafts. Enjoy creative adventures which will spark natural curiosity and take you on a journey of exploration and discovery. Kit List: Apron/old shirt

Art & Craft Age 9 – 14

Our newly refurbished art room is an ideal setting for you to get creative! For this activity, you’ll undertake art and craft projects which provide a practical use once the creative part is over. We’ll give you the ideas and materials and then we’ll let you explore and experiment on your own. Whilst art and craft techniques can be taught, the only way you’ll truly learn is to try it out for yourselves! Kit List: Apron/old shirt

Athletics Age 5 – 8 & Gymnastics

This activity combines these two popular sports and is designed to build confidence and team-work. There will be a structured, yet fun, format of gymnastics which will require balance, strength, flexibility, agility and coordination, whilst alsoenhancing the athleticism of the children through games and races. Cookery Age 6 - 10 A popular activity for both girls and boys! You’ll have a great time learning basic cookery and kitchen skills. Simple step-by-step instructions are given for each recipe so you’ll come away having learnt how to create simple dishes from scratch. You’ll also be able to take home everything you make on the day. Cookery Age 8 - 14

What’s cooking? If you enjoy basic cookery and want to step it up a notch, then you’ll love this course! You will learn more complicated skills and you’ll follow slightly more advanced recipes to create a range of delicious baked products. You’ll also learn how to decorate your creations. The Crystal Age 7 - 12Maze

The Crystal Maze is the ultimate team challenge. It’s truly interactive, fast, energetic and yes, extremely silly! Most importantly, of course, it

is jolly good fun! In your team, you’ll be willing and able to take on the many challenging tasks and games of the Maze! Every challenge successfully completed wins your team a crystal and every Crystal your team earns, gives you more time in the very final challenge – The Crystal Dome. Kit List: Trainers

Dance & Age 5-8 Gymnastics

Our fabulous Dance & Gymnastics course combines these two popular activities and will encourage fitness and develop confidence and imagination! This will be a structured, yet fun format, created to increase children’s enjoyment of dance and exercise. DigiWall Age 5 – 9 and 10 - 14

A gigantic computer game in the form of aclimbing wall that boosts the fun factor! There are many educational aspects to DigiWall,utilising interactivity, competition and whole bodyinteraction. It encourages creativity, immerses you in sound and helps develop coordination, agility and fitness. All DigiWall games engage a variety of physical, social and mental skills and cater to a wide age spectrum with three varying levels of difficulty. DigiWall is perfect in aiding the development of hand-eye and aural co-ordina-tion. DigiWall’s selection of games means they can be played as a single player, player versus player and team game. Drama Age 6 – 10(Foundation)

This thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring activity is a great way for you to develop your confidence, concentration and social skills in a fun environment. It offers a self-development programme which will build your confidence and self-esteem through a carefully constructed drama programme. At the end of the week, you’ll be involved in a course production.Kit List: None

Drama Age 8 - 14

No previous experience is required for this popular and creative activity. You will develop your theatrical abilities, your confidence, concentration and social skills in a fun environment. There are lines to be learnt, scenery to be arranged and costumes to be prepared. You’ll be involved in an exciting and colourful end of course production!Kit List: None

Fashion Design Age 8 - 14

Whether you’re interested in becoming a fashion designer or are simply passionate about fashion and want to learn more about it, our FashionDesign activity will provide an inspiring introduction to the world of fashion. This course invites budding fashionistas and designers to learn about the theoretical and practical sides of fashion and design, providing the opportunity to design and develop their own prototypes by the end of the course. There will be both individual and group work, culminating in a fashion show of work created during the week.Kit List: None

Football (Juniors) Age 5 - 9

If you’re a budding footballer, then this is the activity for you! Our experienced staff will teach you the basic techniques. You’ll learn how to listen to instructions, translate them into actions and make decisions which, along with the fundamental skills of agility, balance and co-ordination, are the basis for a great football player. Football Age 9 - 14

During the initial part of this activity, our experi-enced staff will cover the basic skills: passing, receiving, trapping, dribbling, shooting and pre-cision. They will then move onto the complex, technical drills including how to manipulate a football, working it in tight areas and improvising with strong technique to solve problems in the game as they arise. There will be small team games, penalty shoot-outs, crossbar challenges and a tournament. Health & Beauty Age 8 - 14

Do you enjoy pampering yourself? If so, then this is the course for you! This activity will cover basic hair and beauty rituals, tips, advice and demonstrations to include cleansing, toning, moisturising, face-packs and facial massages. You’ll also learn about manicures and pedicures; preparations and the best techniques to use when applying nail varnish and nail art. Lacrosse Age 8 - 14

Whether you are new and want to enjoy your first experience of lacrosse or have played before, our coaching programme is designed for everyone to benefit, enjoy and develop their game in a fun and safe learning environment. Multi-Activity Age 5 – 8 An extremely popular course for children who are full of energy and open to new challenges! Through a range of fun and inventive games, children will develop their ability to co-operate, negotiate and work as a team whilst most importantly, enjoying themselves. Multi-Sports Age 8 - 14

Designed for older girls and boys, our Multi-Sports course focuses on a high-energy combination of games and sports. Through diverse sports such as rounders, basketball and tennis, your agility, balance and hand-eye co-ordination are developed and improved. Nail Art & Age 8 - 14 Hair Braiding

This course will show you a creative and fun way to paint and design nails. Nail art will involve glitter, gems, stripes, stencils and using fine brushes to create your own designs! You will also learn how to create beautiful plaits and braids including French, fish tail, Dutch and rope. Be prepared to make new friends on this course as you get interactive and practise your braiding techniques out on each other!Kit List: None

Photography Age 10 - 14

This popular course offers you a great opportunity to develop your skills and encourages creativity, expression, confidence and independence. Our course encourages our young photographers to understand the science behind photography, a skill that is not only rare but also very useful in the modern world of digital media. Racket Sports Age 8 - 14

A popular course for those interested in tennis and badminton. Our coaches will teach, practise

and develop your basic shots and strokes and will develop your skills and game. There will be a number of mini tournaments taking place over the week.Kit List: Trainers, warm clothing, waterproof clothing. Tennis/badminton rackets will be provided.

Fun with Age 10 – 14Science

We’ve been busy in our science laboratories,creating an awesome, hands-on, fun-packed programme! There will be marvellous, mind-blowing experiments for all you budding scientists. So if you are between the ages of 10 and 14 years old, then look no further; let the fun begin!Kit List: Apron/old shirt

Fun with Age 9 – 11Sewing

Our sewing courses offer hours of sewing shenanigans! A mixture of hand sewing, embroidery, working with felt, fabric and much more, all with patient guidance and attentive supervision. We have lots of fun and simple project ideas. The emphasis is always on productive and creative fun and no-one goes home without a creation to be proud of!Kit List: None

Street Dance Age 7 – 14

Our Street Dance course is not only fun and exciting but it will give you the confidence to create and freestyle in your own way. With the help of an experienced Street Dance teacher, choreographed routines using set moves and your own interpretations, we will help you to perfect a Street Dance routine to take to parties or other performances, ensuring that you stand out on the dance floor! Survival Age 10 - 14 AdventureSkills (SAS) Thrilling, adventure and excitement; this action-packed course has it all! Conducted mostly outdoors in a stimulating and safe environment, it could be the start of a lifelong involvement in outdoor activities. You will learn a variety of bushcraft survival techniques including shelter-building, camouflaging, tracking, orienteering, navigation by natural means, hunting, outdoor cooking and more. Kit List: Camouflage clothing is provided but please wear suitable clothing which can get dirty, sturdy shoes/boots, trainers and a spare pair of socks

Table Tennis Age 10 - 14

Table tennis is one of the few competitive sports that offers players an opportunity to play a game with fast movements. Table tennis improves co-ordination, balance and reflexes. It is also known to stimulate various different parts of the brain. Our courses are open to children aged 10 – 14 of all abilities, from beginner to advanced. This popular activity will also encourage children to socialise. An enjoyable and popular course!Kit List: Trainers

Technology Age 9 - 14 One for the budding technologists! Our Technology course is a fun and creative problem-solving course which will develop essential soft skills such as teamwork, presentation and communication skills, as well as logical and computational thinking abilities. No experience required as this course is suitable for children aged 9 – 14 of all abilities from experienced to complete novices.Kit List: None
