HOLLOW EARTH SPECIAL RULESHollow Earth is a vast underground world created over eons by subterranean Neander-thals. There are a few rules specific to Hollow Earth:

Hollow Earth is completely separate from the adventure location grid: You cannot fly over the “gap” in the game board either into or out of Hollow Earth with the Biplane, Jet Pack or Zeppelin. You must enter/exit the depths of Hollow Earth only through the Sinkhole or a cavern.

Once in Hollow Earth, you may travel through it with the Biplane or Jet Pack: The underground is incredibly expansive!

You may not use the Zeppelin to move while in Hollow Earth: The subterranean space is so jagged that the Zeppelin would be doomed to eventually tear, deflate or outright explode. You may still select the Zeppelin to complete a mission or to deny the item to another player.

STANDARD HOLLOW EARTH: THE SINKHOLEThe ground crumbles beneath your feet revealing the Hollow Earth!

STANDARD SETUP1. CONSTRUCT THE CENTURY CLUB

Set up the game as you normally would. You can play with either the original Empire State Building Century Club or the Hawaii Century Club in their proper locations. You can learn more about the Hawaii Century Club in the Dinocalypse expansion.

2. ARRANGE THE LOCATIONSShuffle and place the nine adventure locations as per normal.

3. CREATE HOLLOW EARTHPlace the three Hollow Earth tiles standard (tan) side up

beneath the rest of the locations as shown below.

4. DEPOSIT THE TREASUREPlace one treasure token face down on each of the Hollow

Earth tiles.

5. “SINK” AN ADVENTURE LOCATIONRandomly select one of the seven flag tokens. Replace the

corresponding adventure location with the Sinkhole location tile and place the adventure location beneath the middle Hollow Earth tile, as shown.

6. ADD THE STAMPS & PRISONERSAdd stamps to the adventure locations as per usual. Don’t

forget to add stamps to the adventure location that “sank” into Hollow Earth! The Sinkhole tile itself does not get stamps.

7. ADD THE CAVESAdd Cave Exit D to the “sunken” adventure location.Randomly distribute the other three Cave Exits (A, B & C) to

adventure locations, excluding the location that sunk. You may use the flag tokens to randomize, if you wish.

Use the Map here to travel directly to the location with Cave Exit D. Refuel when you travel from The Sinkhole to the cave.

CAVE EXITSCaves A, B, C and D are exits only. Direct cave travel ignores barriers.

TREASURESHollow Earth is filled with trinkets and treasures the Neander-thals have “borrowed” from the world above. If you obtain a treasure, you may spend it any time the benefit applies. Return it to the game box when you use it.

Neanderthal Guidebook: A secret atlas of the world above. Spend it to move one space after landing at a location with the Zeppelin. This is similar to the shadow-side “Swiss combo” loca-tion action.

Atlantean Dagger: A magical treasure worth 2 clues. Spend it to take two clue tokens from the pile.

Racing motor: A top-secret racing engine. Spend it to take an extra move when using the Biplane’s item main or sidekick action.

If two or more Centurions are

eligible to take a treasure token, the round’s first player

(or closest to first player) gets the treasure!

You may use the Jet Pack in the Hollow Earth

to move diagonally … even across the tile corners on the edge of

Hollow Earth.

suck you in. You can stop on the Sinkhole tile or move through that space like any other location.

SHADOW HOLLOW EARTH: THE TREASURE TROVEFor millennia, the Neanderthals gathered incredible artifacts of mankind. Bring these great treasures to light!

SHADOW SETUP1. CONSTRUCT THE CENTURY CLUB

You can play with the original Empire State Building Century Club or the Hawaii Century Club. Set it up following the base game rules, shadow side up.

2. ARRANGE THE LOCATIONSShuffle and place the nine adventure locations as per normal.

Place any number of adventure locations on their shadow side. Make sure to put Brasil on its shadow side!

3. CREATE HOLLOW EARTHPlace the three Hollow Earth tiles shadow (blue) side up

beneath the rest of the locations as shown below.

4. ATTACH THE TREASURE TROVEPlace the Treasure Trove beneath the middle Hollow Earth

tile as shown.

5. PLACE THE TORCHES & TREASURESPlace all the flag tokens face down and randomly select one.

Place a number of torch tokens equal to the number of players on that location. (e.g., You select the Antarctica flag token. It’s a three-player game, so you add three torch tokens to Antarctica.) Stack the three treasure tokens face down on the Treasure Trove location in random order.

6. ADD THE STAMPS & PRISONERSAdd stamps and prisoners to the adventure locations.

However, do not put stamps on the location with the torches; put that location’s stamps in the Treasure Trove instead. (i.e. Continuing the example above, do not place stamp tokens on Antarctica. Place those three stamps in the Treasure Trove instead.)

7. ADD THE CAVERNSIf playing with the Empire State Building Century

Club:• Add a Cavern 1 token to the lower section of the Century

Club.• Add the other Cavern 1 token to the left Hollow Earth

section.• Add a Cavern 2 token to the lower-right adventure location

in the 3x3 grid.• Add the other Cavern 2 token to the right Hollow Earth

section.

If playing with the Hawaii Century Club:• Add a Cavern 1 token to the lower-left adventure location in

the 3x3 grid.• Add the other Cavern 1 token to the left Hollow Earth

section.• Add a Cavern 2 token to the left Century Club section.• Add the other Cavern 2 token to the right Hollow Earth

section.

The rest of the setup is the same as the base game:

THE TREASURE TROVE

Action: Crawl up

Do this action to move one space up.

Mission: Bring fire to the Neanderthals

Spend your torch and flip your fuel to the empty side to accomplish this mission, take the top treasure from the stack and collect the stamp. You may only do this if your fuel was full at the start of the round.

TORCHESWhen you accomplish the mission on the adventure location with the torches, take a torch instead of that location’s stamp.

CAVERNSIf you’re on a location with a Cavern token, you may travel instantly to the cavern with the matching token. This does not count as one of the “movement types” (Biplane/Jet Pack/Zeppelin). All direct cave travel ignores barriers.

PLAYING WITH DINOSAURSHollow Earth works with or without the Dinocalypse expan-sion. If you want to play with both expansions together, you’ll need to know the following:

• Dinosaurs and Neanderthals are mortal enemies. As such, pterodactyls and saurians will not enter Hollow Earth. So, it’s a safe zone for the Centurions. To further clarify:

• During initial placement, pterodactyls and saurians may not be placed in Hollow Earth or the Treasure Trove. They may be placed on the Sinkhole tile, which is part of the adventure location grid.

• Pterodactyls and saurians cannot move over the “gap” in the game board to a Hollow Earth tile and will not use caverns.

• There is no Lundy Island flag token for a reason. It cannot sink into Hollow Earth.

• You may play with the Hawaii Century Club, but do not play with both Century Clubs at the same time!
