Northern Athletics Road Relay Championship

Wythenshawe Park was once again the venue for the autumn road relay championship and Holmfirth Harriers men got two teams out in the event. The men’s ‘A’ team finished in a commendable 15th place in a time of 1:50:15. The team made up of Dave Watson, 17:43, Matthew Pierson, 17:47, Richard Smith, 18:51, Richard Anderson, 18:35, Ali Hassan, 17:59, and Julian Rose, 19:20, ensured qualification for the national championship. The ‘B’ team comprising of Simon Rawnsley, Alistair Langron (Left), Jonathan Sykes, Ricky South, Wayne Byram and James Dewhirst finished in 64th place in a time of 2:01:01.

The ladies event, also at Wythenshawe

Park, saw one Holmfirth ladies team finish in an excellent 6th place. Kath Farquar (Right) ran an excellent first leg to finish in 10th place handing over to Claire Leaver who performed well on a tough second leg bringing the team back in 18th place. Ladies Captain Helen Berry then ran a storming third leg to move the team up to 10th place before Katie Walshaw finished off the race by bringing the team in sixth in a time of 1:14:48.

ERRA National 6 Stage Road

Relay Championship On Saturday 16th October Holmfirth Harriers had a senior men’s team in action at the annual National 6 stage road relay championship. Due to prior commitments and injuries the men were unable to field their strongest team but the Harriers showed their strength in depth with a competitive line up.

The ever green Dave Watson took on the combative first leg and brought the team back in 63rd place in a time of 19:16. Mark Buckingham, who has just started training at Loughborough with the aim of competing at 2012 in the Triathlon, then took over on the second leg. Mark was the quickest Harrier on the day in a time of 18:04. Richard Smith, who is preparing for competition in Barbados at the end of November, ran a solid time of 20:08 leaving the team in 53rd position. It was then over to new recruit Richard Anderson to continue his excellent recent form and he dually responded with a time of 19:34. Julian Rose stepped into the team at the last moment and showed once again what a valuable member he is with a time of 20:36. Alistair Langron brought the team home in 53rd place with a time of 20:15 and an overall time of 1:57:53.

The winners on the day were Bedford and County AC recording a time of 1:45:42, from Shettleston Harriers and Tipton Harriers.

ERRA National 4 Stage Road Relay Championship

Holmfirth Harriers Ladies fielded their Yorkshire Road Relay-winning team at the English National 4-stage Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park on Saturday. It was the first time that all four team members have been able to compete in this National race, due to race calendar clashes in previous years and the result was much anticipated after their recent successes. Kath Farquhar once again led on leg 1 and had a great run amongst tough competition and finished 32nd place out of 85 athletes in a time of 15:57. A slight change in the running order of the team saw Ladies Captain, Helen Berry taking over on leg 2. Helen ran a very strong race and gained 12 places in a time of 15:55, making it the first time that she and Farquhar had run sub-16 minutes for this course. Claire Leaver ran well on leg 3 dropping only 4 places to 24th, in 17:03. Katie Walshaw ran the anchor-leg in a time of 15:45 gaining 4 places to bring the team home in an excellent 20th position, in a total time of 1:04:40. A total of 69 complete teams finished the ladies race which was won by Aldershot, Farnham & District in a time of 58:14.

Bradford Half marathon

The tough Bradford half marathon on the 17th

October had three Harriers participants.

Margaret Sykes was the first FV40 in a time of 1:35:01 followed by Darren Mcdowell

in 1:40:45 and Simon Edwards in 2:18:43

Bridlington Half marathon

Tim Cock and Diane Kolat were Holmfirth’s only representatives in the Bridlington

Half. Tim ran a time of 1:53:43 and Diane followed up with a time of 2:19:20.

Holmfirth 15

Congratulations to Dave Watson on winning this year’s 15. Full results will be up on

the website shortly and a report will be in next month’s newsletter.

With the nights drawing in, the number of races drops off significantly, but we have

still managed to have representatives at several events during the month and again

with some success, both seniors and juniors.

Preparation Pays off for Harriers

at Mountain relay

Teamwork and meticulous planning paid off for Holmfirth Harriers ladies at last weekend’s Ian Hodgson mountain relay. The eight-strong team picked up third place in the annual Lake District, ahead of close competition from Bingley Harriers and last year’s winners, Dark Peak. Holmfirth’s ladies captain Helen Berry attributed the team’s success to their pre-race preparations, which included trips up to Patterdale in the weeks beforehand to check out the individual legs. “The time spent reccying the routes really paid off for us and I am more than chuffed,” she said. “To get a place in such an epic race and to finish ahead of the likes of Bingley and Dark Peak is a fantastic achievement.”

Harriers fielded two teams of runners at this year’s Ian Hodgson mountain relay. The event, which currently starts and finishes at Sykeside Camping Park, Brotherswater, is contested by teams of eight. All four legs are run in pairs and even in fair weather, navigational skills can be essential. Steady rain during the morning meant that underfoot conditions were slippery in places and some of the summits were shrouded in cloud. But Holmfirth’s ladies proved more than capable of handling any challenges from navigation or terrain, squeezing ahead of Bingley on the fourth and final leg to finish 3rd out of the 12 all-female teams (44th place overall). Run of the day came from Berry and team-mate Katie Walshaw, who just missed out on a prize for the fastest ladies pair on leg four. Holmfirth’s men also performed well in the face of stiff competition, finishing in 15th position out of 66 teams – the best performance for the men’s team in several years. However, the day proved disappointing for the team’s strongest pair - Tom Brunt and Bill Stewart - who squandered their initial gains on the first climb by running straight past a checkpoint in the clag. The duo’s decision to try a new, untested route for the final descent also turned out to be costly. The relay was won - once again - by Borrowdale in one of the tightest finishes yet (03:44:21), with Pudsey and Bramley just 20 seconds behind. Ilkley fielded the fastest all-female team (04:59:28). Leg-by-leg results (men): Julian Rank/Alistair Reese (1:08:23; 18th on leg), John Ewart/Gavin Baxter (1:13:56; 25th on leg), Chris Beadle/Jonathan Sykes (45:42; 29th on leg), Tom Brunt/Bill Stewart (1:21:57; 13th on leg). Leg-by-leg results (women): Kath Farquhar/Lucy Griffiths (1.21:21; 48th on leg), Barbara Hinchliffe/Margaret Sykes (1:32:36; 59th on leg), Paula Gould/Karen Sinkinson (51:46; 47th on leg), Helen Berry/Katie Walshaw (1:30:54; 26th on leg).

Harriers Tackle Lakes Challenge

Holmfirth runners enjoyed glorious conditions at the Langdale fell race on Saturday 9th October, the penultimate race in the club’s fell championship. Virtually cloudless skies removed the risk of navigational errors over the 14 mile course, much of which avoids traditional walkers’ paths. Langdale is a well-loved classic in the British fellrunning calendar and despite the rocky terrain and over 4000 feet of ascent, the race is regularly over-subscribed. Holmfirth’s long-distance devotee Tom Brunt secured another top 10 win in a strong field of over 350 competitors, finishing five minutes faster than his previous personal best in 2.17.08. Gavin Baxter finished next for the Harriers (2.47.47) with club captain John Ewart barely a minute behind (2.48.28). Among the women, Paula Gould took advantage of the absence of ladies captain Helen Berry to take the 10 points in the club’s fell championship for the first female Holmfirth finisher. The race was won by Oliver Johnson of Dark Peak in 2.07.57. The Holmfirth contingent was well supported by friends, family and passing walkers who offered encouragement, water and – in one case – a very welcome dish of jelly babies. Harriers results: 10 Tom Brunt (2.17.08), 86 Gavin Baxter (2.47.47), 88 John Ewart (2.48.28), 205 Phil Hobbs (3.21.53), 219 Paula Gould (3.23.51), 276 Karen Sinkinson (3.40.27), 315 Rob Halstead (3.57.56), 333 Bill Hunter (4.08.41). The next – and final - race in the club’s fell championship is the Cardington Cracker in Shropshire on December 5th.

Withins Curly Wurly Rat Runs 24th October 2010

For the first time in living memory, arriving at Penistone Hill, 24th October, for another instalment of the Woodentops Rat Runs did not require full body cover and an ability to be able to stand up in a Force 9 gale – the sun was shining, the wind was minimal and the only water present was in a few puddles on the track. The stage was set for some fast times from the juniors and they did not disappoint. Carrying on from the fantastic turnout at the recent WYCC event at Guiseley, 26 Holmfirth juniors took part, with representatives in every race from the U8’s to the U16’s and as with the West Yorkshire’s, we had a number of top 3 finishers. First off was the U8’s race, where George Hobbs (left) continued his good form of 2010 and won a very tight race in a time of 3.06, knocking 16 seconds off his previous best. Billy Hoult, a newcomer to our ranks, finished 6th in (we think) his first fell race – a great achievement in a field of 52 runners. The U10’s, U12’s, U14’s & U16’s all set off together, leading to a mad dash for the first climb up the side of the quarry. Once the field of 115 runners had spread out on the top of the moor, the races within the individual age groups became more apparent. Jimmy Burke, fresh from his excellent showing in the West Yorkshire’s, came in 8th overall & 2nd U10 in his first fell race in a time of 7.15. Finn Kerry also ran well to finish in 8.02, 20th overall & 6th U10. For the girls, Sunni Waterman had a great race, finishing 48th overall & 2nd GU10 in 8.59. Seth Waterman continues to dominate his age group and was hoping to break the existing U12 record, but was hampered when one of his shoes came off – it didn’t slow him down too much as he finished 3rd overall & 1st U12 in a time of 6.41.

If there had been team prizes on offer, then the U14 girls would have cleaned up – Harmonie Waterman finished 7th overall, 1st GU14 in 7.01, followed closely by Lucy Farquhar in 7.35 (11th overall, 2nd GU14) & Sophie Spencer in 7.45 (14th overall & 3rd GU14). In the U14 boys, Eddie Hinchliffe ran very well in a top quality field to finish 13th overall, 6th U14, in a time of 7.40. The U16’s run 2 laps of the same course & Robert Hinchliffe showed that his fell running techniques training is paying off by finishing 3rd U16 in a time of 13.38. (Eddie pictured left with Sophie Spencer)

Overall, all our juniors put in a great effort and did the club proud once again – it must have spurred on some of the watching parents as well, as both David Williams & Graham Howatson took the plunge and ran their first fell race over the senior course of 7 miles. Apart from encountering mud, mud & more mud, they both seemed to have enjoyed the experience, which just shows it’s never too late to try something new! Other Results:

Langdale Horseshoe (9/10/10) Tom Brunt, 10th overall

Race You To The Summit (23/10/10) Lisa Lacon, 27th overall & 2nd lady, John Adair, 29th overall & 3rd V50

Withins (24/10/10) Alistair Rees, 15th overall & 6th V40

Great Whernside (30/10/10) Alistair Rees, 10th overall & 4th V40.

Northern Road Championships

A record 5 teams of Holmfirth junior athletes travelled on Saturday 2nd October to Manchester to contest the 2011 edition of the Northern Athletics Road Relay Championships. The squad of juniors fresh from their triumphs at the Yorkshire Championships 3 weeks ago were keen to test themselves against the best teams in the North and their performances demonstrated the strength of the club and the progress these juniors continue to make.

With 2 teams of boys entered in the U13 race it was always going to a highlight race for the Holmfirth supporters. The A Team were lead off by Aaron Kettlewell who ran a solid leg 10.47, handing over in 18th place. Ben Dickinson (right) lead off the B team returning in 27th place in 11.36. Aaron handed on to Seth Waterman who gained 7 places for the team, returning in 11th place in 10.57. For the B team Andrew Farquhar gained 2 places coming home in 25th in 11.23. Lewis Byram, first place in the Yorkshire Road race, took the baton on the 3rd leg for the A team. Lewis brought the team home in 5th place, just 3 seconds off 3rd place and in so doing ran

the fastest time of the day 9.50. Bradley Bedford for the B team also had an outstanding run, passing 10 teams bringing the Bs back in 15th place. His time of 10.30 was 5th fastest on stage 3.

Olivia Sykes lead off the girl’s team in the U13 race. After a steady first part of the race Olivia moved through the field and brought the girls home in 5th place in a time of 11.11 the 11th fastest time of the day. This 5th place was one that the girls managed to hold on to for the duration of the race, Olivia handing on to Lucy Byram who ran strongly in 11.44 and then on to sister Erica (left) for leg 3 which she completed in 11.21. Like the boys the girls were also only seconds off a medal position, which was a stunning result as

all 3 have another year in this same age group. The Holmfirth athletes in the older age groups also turned out some gutsy performances. T he U15 girls team of Ruby Sykes, Lucy Farquhar and Harmonie Waterman worked their way through the field to finish 12th out of 44 teams. Ruby leading off with a time of 11.19 and 19th, handing on to Lucy who ran round in 11.25 17th position and then on to Harmonie who gained an impressive 5 positions in a time of 10.53. Also running in an incomplete team on stage one for Holmfirth was Sophie Spencer who finished in 30th place. The U15 boys finished 25th out of 40 teams, With Eddie Hinchlifffe 11.14, Michael Booth 11.34 and Aaron Arthur (right) anchoring the team in 10.44.

The U17 boys in the final junior race of the day also achieved a top 10 finish for Holmfirth. Max Kaye flew in to the stadium in 3rd place on leg 1 in a time of 11.22 over the longer 4,2km course. Max handed on to Thomas Travis-Pollard who, running a time of 11.52 gained one place. Max Lawton the final runner for the team ran well and the team finished in a very creditable 9th place. Max Kaye’s time on the1st leg remaining the 3rd fastest time of the day.

Northern Cross Country Relays

Due to the Cross Country League Race the following day only 2 teams of junior athletes from Holmfirth Harriers travelled to Sheffield on Saturday 9th October to contest the Northern Athletics Cross Country Relay Championships. This is a new event for Northern Athletics as and such there were one or two teething problems, resulting in incorrect timings and poor marshalling. Despite this our junior teams achieved great results against tough opposition.

U13 boy’s team of Aaron Kettlewell, Andrew Farquhar and Lewis Byram performed superbly and just missed out on Bronze medals by a whisker. Aaron Kettlewell once again in his role as lead out man was first off for the boys, Aaron completed the 1 mile course in 5.57 handing on to Andrew in 9th place. A well meaning marshal prevented Andrew leaving the change over zone and as a result the team lost around 10 seconds on their nearest rivals. Andrew handed over to Lewis Byram on last leg in 11th position in 6.19. Lewis took up the challenge and ran with his usual determination. He lifted the team to 5th overall and in so doing ran the fastest time of the day but the boys were frustrated to finish only a few seconds down on 3rd place.

U13 girl’s team of Olivia Sykes and Lucy and Erica Byram also took up the challenge. Olivia lead off the team running strongly as ever and returning in a time of 6.17 and handing on to Lucy in 7th place. Lucy managed to gain one place on her rivals and handed over to sister Erica after running a time of 6.32. Erica also ran well bringing the team home in 6th position and running a time of 6.28.

U13 boys and girls; Olivia Sykes, Erica Byram, Lewis Byram, Andrew Farquhar, Aaron Kettlewell, Lucy Byram.

Gold Rush at West Yorkshire League

Five team gold performances for Harriers at Race One of West Yorkshire Cross Country League. The sun shone gold on Sunday 10th October for Holmfirth Harriers Athletes at Nunroyd Park in Guisley. The unparalleled successes of Holmfirth harriers in the 2009 league were surpassed with superb individual and team performances from Junior and Senior Athletes, Holmfirth teams winning 5 of the 10 races, and Holmfirth Athletes on the podium in 5. Individual winners were Lewis Byram, and Katie Walshaw; Lewis continuing his domination of the U13 boys event, Katie Walshaw taking first place for the first time in the senior ladies race, like Lewis leading from the gun. Other podium athletes were Jimmy Burke, in his first race in a Holmfirth vest finishing a close 2nd in the U11 race, Helen Berry and Matthew Pierson, both second place in senior women and men’s race respectively, Olivia Sykes 2nd and Erica Byram 3rd in the U13 girls and Harmonie Waterman 3rd the U15 girls race.

The U11 boys first race of the day and 1st Holmfirth team victory, Jimmy’s 2nd place backed up by Arron Gill 7th, Finn Kerry 10th and Nicky Farquhar 12th, the later 3 separated by 5 seconds. The U13 boy’s race was a treat for our supporters with 10 Holmfirth athletes competing. Lewis ran with great composure to finish in first, Bradley Bedford was next home for the team moving through the field and finishing a fantastic 4th, Aaron Kettlewell consistent as ever remained strong in 8th and Thomas Dickens ran his socks off to get home in 16th and just pip City of York for 1st team. In their first league outings Daniel Levitt and Lewis Bartholemew showed great potential finishing in 22nd and 24th positions and Shea Kerry continued his recent improvement in 29th. Sam Gabbitass also ran well in his first League race for 38th and Joe Williams and Isaac Shepherd completed the Holmfirth contingent in 42nd and 46th this also Isaac’s 1st cross country race. Together with Lewis Byram and Aaron Kettlewell in the boys race the winning Holmfirth girls team in the U13 race had all raced the previous day in the Northern Cross Country relays (finishing 6th team) there were no excuses from any of these juniors of having tired legs, Olivia and Erica both stormed through the field in the last section of the race to finish 2nd and 3rd, Lucy Byram completed the winning trio in 23rd. Daisy-Mae Hinchliffe also moved well through the field in the later stages to finish 30th Genevieve Durrans in her 1st cross country race ran really strongly in 35th.

The U15 girls race was an open race until the final quarter of the race with 5 girls still in the leading pack. Harmonie Waterman (left) hung on to finished a fantastic 3rd place. Ruby Sykes and Sophie Spencer both running strongly completed the team in 10th and

17th place. The team finished an excellent 3rd. Aaron Arthur was first home for the U15 boys running strongly in 28th place in this his first league race as an U15. Also new in this age group Eddie Hinchliffe finished really strongly in 34th. The U15 boy’s team was completed by Michael Booth in 43rd place and Robert Hinchliffe 47th. The team finished 7th. Sole Holmfirth representative in the U17 girls race Rebecca Addy ran well to finish in 15th place as did Max Lawton our only runner in the U17 boys in 19th place.

Hardworking Juniors in National Championships

On Sunday 5 teams of runners from Holmfirth Harriers journeyed to Sutton Park in Birmingham to contest the National Road relay championships on the 17th October. In Road running terms for Junior athletes this is the premier event of the season and over 300 teams of athletes from around the country had gathered for this real

festival of road running. For many of the Holmfirth athletes this was their first experience on the road of this standard of competition and the results the club achieved really speak for the themselves with fine individual performance and solid team results demonstrating once again the talent and potential of our local athletes.

In the U13 age groups the girls team was lead off by Olivia Sykes who copied well with longer distance of 3.8km the hills of the Sutton course, and handed over to Lucy Byram in 27th position out of a field of 68 in a time of 16.11. creditable 49th place, Robert 62nd out of 72 runners on leg 1 in 15.19, Eddie 59th in 16.20 and Aaron 49th in 14.41, great running against the countries best athletes.

Harriers Take Home Advantage Saturday 30th saw the second fixture of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League. The races – jointly hosted by Holmfirth and fellow Huddersfield club Longwood Harriers took place at Fartown High School, an excellent cross country venue the challenging compact course a treat for spectators as the runners wound their way up and down the hillside. Star individual

performances, and there were no shortage of these from a Holmfirth perspective came through the age groups. Lewis Byram (left) imperious in the U13 boys race with a winning margin of 30 seconds over club mate Seth Waterman who had an excellent strong run for 2nd place in this hard fought category. In the U13 girls race, Erica Byram ran her socks off for 2nd place, a really excellent performance as were the third placings of Jimmy Burke in the U11 boys race, Keelan Fitton U11 girls. The first 4 races of the day saw 4 consecutive team gold performances. In race one, U11 boys, Jimmy Burke third, Nicky Farquhar 10th, Arron Gill 11th and Fionn Kerry 13th for the team , backed up by debutant William Johnson with an excellent race in 16th , Bailey Bedford 25th, Daniel Howatson 30th, Owen Dawson 32nd, Tiras Waterman 34th, George Hobbs 36th, Joel Page 39th and Harry Hobbs 43rd. U11 girls also finished first team Keelan Fitton (3rd) with Libby Shepherd in 13th and Sunnivah Waterman 14th. Charlotte Eastwood 15th, Amy Kettlewell 21st, and Holly and Emmy Bailey-Taylor 35th and 36th also ran well. Such was the strength of the Holmfirth U13 boys that had the club been able to finish a “B team” it would have placed 2nd behind the A team. With Lewis and Seth in 1st and 2nd Bradley Bedford with really strong run in 6th and Daniel Levitt in his first season of cross country finishing in 16th the 1st team position was assured. The other boys for Holmfirth in this category Ben Dickinson 17th, Andrew Farquhar 19th, Aaron Kettlewell 20th, Lewis Bartholemew 24th, Shea Kerry 30th, Joe Williams 33rd, Sam Gabbitas 36th, Isaac Shepherd 40th, and Luke Page in his 1st race 47th. Not to be outdone by the boys the U13 girls also put up a commanding team performance, Erica in 2nd, Sister Lucy Byram 8th (left) and Amira Mellor 9th (far left) for the team placings, these girls backed up by Megan Lamb in 15th, Daisy Hinchliffe much improved in 19th and Genevieve Durrans 33rd. With 3 athletes finishing in the top 10 the U15 Holmfirth girls were disappointed to miss out on top team spot but they were just pipped by Wakefield Harriers. Harmonie Waterman ran really strongly in a hard fought race and finished 4th, Ruby Sykes fresh off the boat from holiday in Holland had a great run in 8th place and Sophie Spencer found her form and finished hot on Ruby’s heels in 10th. Supporting these team finishers were Lucy Farquhar 22nd, Sophie Williams 41st and Jessica Gabbitas 42nd. The boys at this same age group improved on their team placing from the last fixture and finished in 6th place, Aaron Arthur first back for the team in 24th, Eddie Hinchcliffe running strongly in 28th, Michael Booth 38th and Robert Hinchliffe 43rd. Holmfirth’s 2 representatives in the U17 boys race ran well over a longer course than they had faced in the last race. Race 1 - 10th

October

The Senior Ladies were looking to make a good start to the league to retain their team title, which they've held for 3 out of the last 4 seasons, and they did not disappoint. Katie Walshaw led the field from the gun to finish in first place, though the positions behind her were more

fiercely contested. Ladies Captain, Helen Berry, ran a well paced race moving through the field from 4th to 2nd in the last few minutes of the race. Kath Farquhar, who had been busy coaching the juniors to success in the hours before the senior race, had an excellent run to finish 8th place and 1st V40. Claire Leaver made up the 'A' team with another strong run in 12th place to ensure a first place for the team, 21 points clear of second placed Keighley & Craven. Next Harrier home was Lucy Griffiths in 19th place. Yvette Arthur, Cara Penfold (who only just made the start - Left 118) and Debbie Hall (far left) all continue to improve, finishing 39th, 44th and 53rd respectively. Zoe Storr made a welcome return to the cross country scene, having favoured the 400m on the track in recent years, and finished well in 65th place. 9 The 'B' team finished 6th team ahead a several 'A' teams. 90 runners completed the women's race.

Race 2 - 30th October

First home for the men was Matthew Pierson who ran a well judged race to finish in 9th place quite amazing as he was back in 50th at the end of the first lap. Next back for the team was Richard Anderson in 17th place who also ran a really strong race showing he is in good form ahead of a duathlon next weekend. Third harrier home was David Turnbull in his comeback race after surgery in 24th place closely followed by Richard Smith in 27th place. Alistair Langron was fifth place harrier in 68th place followed by the final team counter David Williams in 96th place. Other Harrier finishers were Nathan Martin in 98th place, Wayne Byram in 118th, Phil Hobbs 126th and Andrew Kerry in 142nd place. The men’s team finished in third place a vast improvement on their 9th place in the last race and can look forward to another improved performance at Bramley in three weeks.

The Ladies continued to dominate the league with another team win, though this time it was a close fight for team honours with Bingley Harriers. With both teams having 3 counters finishing in the top 8, Holmfirth athletes each 1 place in front of the Bingley athlete, it was up to the final Holmfirth counter to make the difference. Katie Walshaw set off at an incredible pace to lead the field but Bingley and GB international, Victoria Wilkinson, gave chase to take the lead for more than one lap of the 3 lap course. Ladies Captain, Helen Berry (left) moved up into 3rd place and gradually made ground on the leading athletes. Katie was not to be beaten and worked hard on the final lap overtaking Wilkinson to win by a margin of 14 seconds, with Helen a further 7 seconds behind. Kath Farquhar had an excellent race finishing in 7th place and first V40. The team was backed up by strong run from Claire Leaver who picked up vital team points by passing 5 athletes in the final stages of the course.

Lucy Griffiths put in a solid performance to finish 21st. Rachael Mellor and Lesley Ewart who were both absent from the first league race gained valuable points for their respective vets categories, finishing 2nd (31st overall) and 1st (34th overall) respectively. Zoe Storr made a huge improvement from race 1, finishing 49th. The 'B' team would have finished a credible 8th team. Debbie Hall showed consistency with a similar position (54th) to race 1 and Karen Sinkinson, who by her own admittance is more comfortable with a longer fell race, found the pace rather rapid but did well to finish 65th.
