DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: This Monday, May 29th, is Memo-rial Day. This is a special day to re-member all those who have given their lives in defense of the United States of America. How fortunate we have been in the history of this country to have such brave men & women risking their lives so that we are able to be free & to live in peace. I salute, as I know you do, those countless numbers in the history of America who have served in our military; those who have died defending us; those who have been permanently injured due to their service. May our hearts be filled with gratitude for the shedding of their blood for us. May they know of our appreciation for putting them-selves in harm’s way to ensure our freedom. Our service personnel have given their sweat, toil, & blood to keep us free. They have given up so much so that we can continue to live in America free from worry of domination by another country or people. Jesus gave of His Body & Blood so that we could be free from sin & death. Our service personnel who died sacrificed their lives to protect us & help America continue to be a free land. Jesus sacrificed His very life in order that we could be free. Memorial Day is a day to remember, give thanks, & pray. Each time we come to Eucharist we come to remem-ber, give thanks, & pray. COME TO MASS THIS MONDAY, MAY 29TH, MEMORIAL DAY, FOR THE 7:30 A.M. MASS, PRECEDED BY THE ROSARY AT 7:10 A.M. YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE P.S. Our Deacon is coming, our Deacon is coming!! DIOCESAN SYNOD UPDATE: Our diocese is in the midst of a Synod, a diocesan-wide yearlong study of pro-posals for the future direction of our diocese. The open-ing meeting was held on May 20th at the Cathedral. Our parish rep, Ann Carr, & our two Decatur Deanery young people reps, Adam Peters & Sydey Frey from HF, at-tended the session along with me, who is there because I am a Dean. There were about 150 people from all over the diocese who discussed 8 proposals which originated from earlier listening sessions at the Deanery level. More discussion will follow over the next months, including a possible session in our parish. But know the three lay peo-ple mentioned above represented us very well. I was so proud of them & the contributions they made to all pre-sent. Pray for the success of the Synod. The Synod prayer card is attached to the bulletin for you to pray.
