The Ascension of the Lord
“Pastor’s Weekend Message”
“Men of Galilee, why gaze in wonder at the heavens? This Jesus whom you saw ascending into
heaven will return as you saw him go, Alleluia” (Acts of the Apostles 1:11)
Forty days after the great joyful event of the Resurrection, the Lord Jesus, as he had promised his disciples, Ascends into heaven. You may recall how in the Scriptures Jesus appears and disappears, eats and talks after he is risen from the dead. In fact, for forty days he lives a resurrected life with his followers encouraging, strengthening, and affirming their faith in Him and one another. He gives them hope. Today is the Ascension of the Lord to His Heavenly Home with the Father, and promises to send the Holy Spirit. For us at Holy Family, this celebration reminds us of both Hope and Consolation. Our hope and faith lead us to Heaven and yet we have the consolation to have Jesus’ promised word to trust and never lose hope in Him. This is the promise: the Holy Spirit will come. Let us continue to pray for all families who struggle financially, losing a job, for families and friends with health issues, and for us as a family-community, may we never lose the gifts of faith, trust and confidence. Above all, may we never lose hope in our God who knows all of our needs and never abandons those He has chosen and continues to love. Let us take courage in the Lord Jesus and may our prayer be “Come Holy Spirit and give us all your precious Gifts for us to follow Jesus and may we give glory to God the Father.” Remember your raffle tickets for our Salida Fiesta. Fr. Juan, your Pastor
PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Breathe into me, Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I may always be holy. Saint Augustine
