Ground Breaking for New Fellowship Hall!!
This past Friday we had the groundbreaking for our new fellowship hall. I want to thank everyone who came out for bearing with the elements to celebrate this milestone. We didn’t have a lot of time to plan it because of the nature of lining up schedules (most importantly the Bishop’s) and a few other factors. If you were out of town and are disappointed you missed it, don’t worry—you can plan on being here for the ribbon cutting! Well, there’s a lot to take place before that happens, and a lot has occurred up to this point. I would like to take the time to thank some of the leadership of our campaign team. This is a group that included my “kitchen cabinet” of planners and strategizers, as well as our honorary and general chairmen. Strategic Planning Committee, a.k.a my “kitchen cabinet”: Joe Altenhoff, Dianna Cruden, Kevin Frost, Mary Kay Garganera, Cori Gendron, Tom and Kathy Giovingo, John Morrissey, Mike LaLoggia and Deacon Frank Zammuto General Chairs: Ivan and Anne Brown, Dr. David and Kim Cheng, Dr. Scott and Mary Joe LeGrand, John J. and Maureen Morrissey, Christopher and Teri Seivert. Honorary Chairs: Bill and Liza Derry, Pat and Joan Gendron, Dr. Michael and Juliana Hart, Michael V. and Mary J. LaLoggia, Dr. Glenn and Mary Milos, John F. and Fran Morrissey and Brian and Mary Vogrinc A special thanks goes to Julia Clay, who is now working for the diocese, but was on staff with us and helped us shepherd the fundraising portion of the capital campaign. She kept us on task with a sweet smile and a firm determination. The whole parish staff, as well, has done their part to make this day possible; so, I thank them for their help and for persevering through the challenges that they will face in this next year, as we try to manage programs while so much of the campus is under construction. Besides all those I mention by name, the whole parish is owed thanks. All of you have done something quite significant in terms of what we raised. We did it in a climate within which it is very difficult for churches to raise money and to grow and expand. There is in our culture an increased secularization and then there’s the tragic Church scandals that didn’t make it any easier. And what we have accomplished goes well beyond the money that was raised. In fact, more significant than that is the good spirit in the community that has occurred from the time we first contemplated such an endeavor and which continues to this day. Now the rubber meets the road (or asphalt in this case!). Construction will start soon, and no doubt, things will be pretty hectic as the parking lot gets reconfigured and slabs of cement are poured. I ask for your continued patience as we walk this final leg of the journey together. We will give you a sense of the project’s scope and what disruption there will be to the campus when we receive it from our Construction Manager.

Pardon Our Dust… We are now entering into the “Pardon our Dust” phase of things. With God’s grace we will get through this together. I know it won’t be easy. Any of you who have remodeled your kitchen or bathrooms can identify. It can be unsettling at times; but I also know we will be better for it. The physical challenges will be a great opportunity to grow spiritually. Keeping the bigger picture and the end goal in the forefront of our minds will be helpful. We should remind ourselves that just as the founders of this parish made sacrifices to build the church we now enjoy, so too, are we making sacrifices that generations to come will benefit from. For that, you should all be proud of yourselves and rejoice in how God has used us to advance our mission, Building Community, Making Disciples. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, Fr. Kaim, S.T.L.

Join Fr. Kaim for an Advent experience unlike any other! Enjoy singing classic Christmas carols in St. John Cantius Church, decorated in a stunning manner, with several choirs accompanied by their massive Casavant Pipe Organ. Hear the Christmas story read from the famous “nine lessons” taken from the Bible. Let your heart be warmed by the youthful voices of their Magnificat Choir. Start your Christmas celebration
right with beautiful Christmas Music from St. John Cantius, as the stunning voices of their St. Cecilia Choir sing to the Infant Lord of Bethlehem. We will depart Holy Family at 3:45 PM. As we drive downtown, Fr. Kaim will lead us in some spiritual meditations to prepare our hearts for Christmas. You will receive a light snack on the way down. After the program, we will have pizza and wine for you as we listen to Christmas Carols on the ride home. This will be a late night! Approximate arrival back home will be at 11 PM. The cost is $90 per person. Please fill out the registration form found in the narthex and turn it in to the parish office along with payment. No refunds can be given after November 30. Contact [email protected] for more information. Space is limited.

Down Syndrome Awareness Month - Calvin Freiburger, writes, “For the third year in a row, President Trump has recognized October’s Down Syndrome Awareness Month with a statement calling for every American to be embraced regardless of the medical challenges he faces, including explicit condemnation of targeting babies with Down’s
via abortion. ‘Every human life possesses immeasurable value, and our administration will continue to embrace and defend the inherent truth that all of God’s children should be loved and cherished.’” (https://tinyurl.com/yxvph39g) On Something Childish - David Warren, www.thecatholicthing.org, writes, “I happen to be the father of a Down syndrome child. He has now reached thirty, but is in some respects still a child. He has taught me more than I could otherwise know about Jesus. One of the examples he has set for me is that capacity for unaffected incomprehension, when something ‘cruel and unusual’ is done around him, or even TO him - as was more than once the case in a schoolyard. That we now live in an age when such children, spotted in the womb, will almost certainly be aborted, is among the things he would not understand, or try to analyze. He lacks the mental equipment for that. People call it a ‘disability.’” (https://tinyurl.com/y53jd4pw) “Wrongful birth” award may spur UK hospitals to encourage abortion for Down syndrome - Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, “A mother who said that she would have aborted her baby if she knew that he had Down syndrome, has been awarded $253,457.00. Currently in the UK, 90% of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted. Wrongful birth lawsuits are a disturbing phenomenon that reinforce the view that the birth of a child with a disability is a harm for which one may be compensated. The ‘screening’ process is intrinsically and subconsciously biased towards termination, endorsing a form of eugenics.” (https://tinyurl.com/y2n9eyjy; In the USA, 75% of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted. https://tinyurl.com/y7tcg6ot) Planned Parenthood to spend $45,000,000 to retake Government - Calvin Freiburger, www.lifesitenews.com, writes, “Planned Parenthood Votes (PPV), the super PAC of the nation’s largest abortion chain, announced their plans to spend at least $45 Million in the 2020 campaigns to elect candidates who support abortion rights.” [They are still receiving over $500,000,000 from taxpayers. Why?] (https://tinyurl.com/yyxaz7gh)

Mike Pacer practiced as a successful Chicago trial lawyer for fourteen years before hearing a call from God to “just leave.” Entrusting their futures and their young boys into God’s hands, Mike and his wife Lori left their comfortable lives and headed out into the unknown.
This trust walk over the past 15 years has led Mike to a life as a dynamic international speaker, award-winning author, retreat facilitator, and parish mission leader. He has also served as a Marriage Tribunal Advocate. Mike is the President of 5 Stones, a not-for-profit that partners with Catholic organizations, providing them tools to magnify their message and evangelize the world.
Along with Lori, Mike is a Co-Director of Evangelize All Ministries, an apostolate that promotes God Is! – a powerful plan for parish evangelization and renewal. He is the author of two books, Mercy and Hope and Prayers for Catholic Men. Mike received his Master’s in Theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary.
Holy Family Mission: Confronting Christ & Living Life
Is there stress in your life? Do you sometimes question what you really believe? Are there blocks keeping you from being the person you want to be? Do you need a spiritual lift? Do you want more peace, joy and purpose in your life? Are you anything less than perfectly happy?
If the answer to any of these questions is “Yes,” you need to attend our Mission on November 11, 12, and 13 entitled, Confronting Christ & Living Life. These three nights of talks and spiritual exercises led by Mike Pacer will engage your mind, heal your heart, and feed your soul. You will be uplifted and inspired and ready to face the challenges of life.
God has something special in store for you!
.
“Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or needing clothes, or sick, or in prison, and did not help you?” This is the question the “goats” on the Son of Man’s left asked Him in the 25th chapter of Matthew’s Gospel. We all remember the Lord’s response. We have many children in our community who are unprepared to meet the bitter cold our Midwestern winters bring. They need coats!!! The Knights of Columbus will be collecting clean coats after all Masses on November 16 & 17. The coats should be new or gently used, including smaller sizes for infants and toddlers.
