PARISH EVENTS & NEWS – THIS WEEK
LETTER FROM FR. TOM: As pastor, I like to talk about the
exciting things happening in our parish. One of those
things is our faith formation program. This year, we
decided that we would focus on prayer. If our faith is about
our personal relationship with Jesus, then as Christians, we
should all have a regular prayer life. We realized that many
of our students were struggling with “how to pray?” In 1
st
through 8
th
grade, we have been focusing on memorizing
prayers and developing a habit of prayer. We are working
on 11 memorized prayers, including the “Sign of the
Cross,” the “Our Father,” and the “Hail Mary,” – the basics.
But we are also teaching the “Morning Offering” and the
“Angelus.” I have heard many good things about this from
both students and parents. They are asked to pray these
prayers daily and it has been helping them to remember.
Some are even doing this as family prayer time.
In the high school program, our goal is to help the
students learn how to pray as adults. They have learned
six different ways to do mental prayer. Not only do we
teach them how to pray, but we also give them time during
class to practice each prayer form. Examples of mental
prayer include Lectio Divina, the Rosary, and Adoration of
the Blessed Sacrament.
Another thing they have learned is how to pray with
others. We should all learn to pray with family and friends!
Every Christian should be comfortable doing the Share
Prayer (intercessory prayer) and Liturgy of the Hours.
Praying with others includes attending Mass and
participating in the Sacraments. As pastor, I am so happy
to see families praying together and to hear about
experiences of prayer that the students are having. I would
like to take a moment to thank all of the parents who are
working with their children to make this a success. We
have a great parish! Peace, Fr. Tom Pomeroy
MISSALETTES FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY are
given in memory of Mary Ann Vondrachek. Thank you
John and Mary’s family for your generosity. Missalettes are
available in the narthex for you to take home and bring
back to Mass.
NEWS & EVENTS
IN SYMPATHY – We remember:
Carol Geiser who died February 10, mother to
Trina (Vaughn) Haberland.
Please keep Carol and her family in your prayers. May she
rest in peace. “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.”
WE RISE AGAIN– 2021 BISHOP’S APPEAL
Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:
“This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of
God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the
Gospel.” Mark 1:14-15
Dear Friends,
“Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the
Gospel of God.” Everywhere Jesus went, He
was proclaiming the Gospel and demonstrating He was
truly the Son of God. He found His disciples in the most
ordinary of men, folks like you and me, whom God used in
an extraordinary way. Even today, God calls each of us to
connect with our neighbors and share His love.
The Reconnect to Inspire program developed by the
Parish Life & Evangelization Mission Team has given
leaders from around the diocese tools to connect with
people through small groups. These groups have helped
share the light that only our God can give. Folks have
been able to walk with one another as Jesus walks with us
through challenges and joy. They were able to deepen
their relationships not only with each other, but with our
Lord. Programs like this provide important connection that
reaches people right here at Holy Family Parish.
Please make your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal today;
together We Rise Again. Your gift allows the Parish Life &
Evangelization Mission Team to bring wonderful programs
proclaiming the Gospel of God right here to our parish.
Use the pledge card you received at home, visit the
Bishop’s Appeal website at www.catholicfoundationgb.org/
give or contact our parish office to make your gift. Thank
you for your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal and for your support
of Holy Family Parish. Our parish goal this year is
$61,476.

FAITH FORMATION HAPPENINGS
CONFIRMATION: Students are preparing their letters for
Bishop. In order to receive the sacrament of Confirmation,

receive the sacrament and how they are preparing to
receive the sacrament. Please pray for our Confirmation
students as they continue preparing for the sacrament.
CONFESSION: Faith Formation students Gr. 3 – 11
received the sacrament of Confession within the last
couple of weeks. Here is what Fr. Tom and our visiting
priests had to say about the students: “I love coming to
Holy Family, your students are so spiritual. It’s an honor to
serve them.” "Your students were very polite and they
thanked me for being here!" "The students did a great
job..." "They were very well–prepared."

FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
THOUGHTS ON TODAY’S READINGS:
The waters of Baptism make us part of the new
covenant in Christ. But the bishops’ pastoral letter on
stewardship reminds us that “there is a fundamental
obligation arising from the Sacrament of
Baptism...that people place their gifts, their resources
– their selves – at God’s service in and through the
Church.”
STEWARDSHIP: SHARING GOD’S GIFTS:
Stewardship involves a willingness to give from the
very core of who we are and what we have; from
substance rather than abundance.
