Very Dear Friends,
Our Lenten Journey has begun, this Holy Season arrives with lot of snow, a raging pandemic and a troubled political scene. Yet we are called to peaceful recollection and quiet souls.
Journeys have their ups and downs and our Lenten journey will follow that usual, general pattern. We can’t guarantee a perfect journey; it will have it’s ups & downs but we can make a good start.
Our goal is Easter, but we should strive to keep our focus on the goal; we should follow our own best path.
We will choose those practices that are appropriate for each of us and we must place it all in God, our Father’s Hands.
Blessing & best wishes;
Fr. Don
HOLY FAMILY PARISH FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL February 21, 2021 1st Sunday of Lent Introduction Lent is a time to remember that God first reached out to us. This was not a meagre, one-time gesture like those we often make and withdraw, but a profound, lasting and healing covenant. During this season, we reflect on and ask forgiveness for our own alienating, sinful actions. We ponder in deep prayer and silence that God has invested everything, including a beloved Son, into this relationship.
Presider Let us now pray to grow in our relationship with God and one another during this sacred time.
• For the whole church: that our covenant with a loving God may be strengthened during this Lenten season ... remembering your constant love, we pray,
For the courage to contribute to a more just and peaceful world during this Lenten season ... remem-bering your constant love, we pray,
For the desire to build more loving relationships with others, especially those we resent, during this Lenten season ... remembering your constant love, we pray,
For the generosity of time and effort to assist those seeking to enter the church during this Lenten season ... remembering your constant love, we pray,
For the catechumens in our faith community and throughout the diocese who will be participating in the Rite of Election with our bishop ... remembering your constant love, we pray,
For the compassion to walk with the sick and dy-ing, the grieving and most needy members of this community during this Lenten season ... remember-ing your constant love, we pray, PRAYER: God of patience, we are humbled by the unconditional love you have bestowed on us beyond our memory. Help us to observe this holy season in prayer and repentance, so that we may be ever more faithful to you and to one another. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

HOLY FAMILY PARISH FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
'O Espírito levou Jesus para o deserto'.
I Dom Quaresma (Ano B): – Gn 9,8-15; Sl 24(25); 1Pd 3,18-22; Mc 1,12-15.

Reflection
HOW TO FAST
Fast from judging others; Feast on Christ dwelling in them. Fast from apparent darkness; Feast on the reality of light. Fast from pessimism; Feast on optimism. Fast from thoughts of illness; Feast on the healing power of God. Fast from words that pollute; Feast on phrases that purify. Fast from anger; Feast on patience. Fast from worry; Feast on Divine Providence. Fast from unrelenting pressure; Feast on unceasing prayer. Fast from negatives; Feast on positives. Fast from complaining; Feast on appreciation. Fast from hostility; Feast on non-resistance. Fast from bitterness; Feast on forgiveness. Fast from anxiety; Feast on hope. Fast from yourself; Feast on a silent heart.
FAST: Catholics over 18 and up to the beginning of their sixtieth year are bound to the obligation of fasting. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the days of fasting. On these days, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed.
ABSTINENCE: Catholics over 14 years of age are bound to the obligations of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent. On days of abstinence, meat may not be used at all.
Lenten Action
In a prayerful spirit, get up early and watch the sun rise.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you spoke peace to a sinful world and brought mankind the gift of reconciliation by the suffering and death you endured. I love you and joyfully bear the name 'Christian.' Teach me to follow your example. Increase my faith, hope and charity so that I may struggle to turn hatred to love and conflict to peace.
