Briefs about the Paschal Season: Easter is the oldest “Catholic” celebration. It
started being celebrated just eight days after the resurrection (John 20:26) and it
was called “the Lord’s Day” [of the resurrection], Revelation 1:10.
Some key points: (1) The Paschal season begins with Easter Vigil and ends with Pentecost Sunday;
(2) The first eight days of the paschal season constitute the Easter Octave and are celebrated as
Solemnities of the Lord; (3) The color of the vestments during the Easter Season is white, celebrating
the new life of Resurrection; (4) A Fifty-day celebration of Easter Season shows the importance of
the Paschal Mystery in the Liturgical life of the Church and in the apostolic activity of its members;
(5) From Easter Vigil to Pentecost day is called: “One Big Sunday” St. Athanasius; (7) It is a true Spiritu-
al spring per excellence, a time of Christian Joy; (8) “Today we sing Alleluia on the way” tomorrow will
be the alleluia at home” (St. Augustine).
NOTE: To mark the fact that Paschal Mystery celebrated from Holy Thursday till the Easter Vigil is one
BIG CELEBRATION, at the end of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper there is no final blessing and sign of
the Cross; on Good Friday we begin without the Sign of the Cross and end without it; the Easter Vigil
also starts without the Sign of the Cross but ends with it, followed by a Solemn Alleluia. The Passion,
Death, and Resurrection of the Lord is indeed one Great Mystery of our faith, and we say: Christ has
died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again.
The word Triduum comes from the Latin word meaning "three days." It begins with the evening of
Maundy Thursday and ends at Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday. Thus, the Triduum consists of three
full days which begin and end in the evening. Fr. Celestine Byekwaso [email protected]

Basic Estate Planning Seminar Holy Family Parish Center
Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 6:30 pm
Do you have an estate plan in place or are you overwhelmed at the thought of how to pass on your property to family and/or charitable organizations after your death? Our local experts David Denby, CTFA, CISP, Vice President and Trust Officer at The Stephenson Na-tional Bank & Trust, and attorneys Michael Palid and Barb Morrison will help simplify some basic estate planning information to help prepare you and answer some of your questions. Topics to be covered include: Basic Estate Plan-ning (passing property from one generation to the next); Why plan - why take the time and bear the expense?; the importance of account titling; and Terminology - the “joys of jargon.” (The church is not the only one who likes Latin.) Contact the Parish Office for more information.

Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter, we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of
self-sacrifice which brings new life to others.
Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will show the love of the Risen Christ by bringing your love to those who live in fear and doubt,
