From fall to flood (Innocence and Conscience)

• Strived with man thru conscience (to live a life pleasing God)

Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh:

From flood to the birth of Christ (Human government, Patriarchal, and Legal dispensations)

Work was not specific. Came upon individuals (man or woman) for special work, irrespective they are good or bad. Did not abide with them for ever, but left after the task, or when disobeyed.

Like the Son (Jn.1: 10) Holy Spirit also was in the world. But as promise came down on Pentecost as comforter.

• Baptism of the Holy Spirit- To make us the members of same body• Unction of the Holy Spirit - Appointed us as royal priests unto him• Seal of the Holy Spirit - As sign that we are of His possession• Earnest of the Holy Spirit - Assurance of redemption of our body

Romans 8:23 but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

• Can anyone show commands to receive any above truths ?


HOLY SPIRIT What the baptism of the Holy Spirit? (Fully a news experience and in the New testament only)

• John the Baptist prophesied Mat.3: 11 He shall baptize you with Holy Ghost and with fire Mk.1: 8 He shall baptize you with Holy Ghost Lk.3: 16 He shall baptize you with Holy Ghost and with fire Jn. 1: 33 He which baptizeth with Holy Ghost (In Mat. and Lk. we read baptism of Fire said in addition)

• Jesus promised Acts 1:5 but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days

hence.

• Peter remembered the promise Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. (After 11 years from Pentecost)

(It is clear, was not taught often, or why said “remembered”?)


HOLY SPIRIT• What it is to be baptize with Holy Spirit, and with

fire ? If water baptism is act of immersing in water, and Baptism of the Holy Ghost is immersing in the Spirit. Then what is the baptism with fire? Nothing but “Chaff” putting (immersing) literally in hell fire.

“Chaff” are the wicked, and will be baptized in fire (Mk.9: 48,49) (Not for us, not now but at the end putting wicked to hell fire.)

(Lord the giver of both; but at different times and people)

Purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit ?

1 Cor.12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (To make all believers as one body)

(Not repeated now- but shares when we are added to the church)

• If any one offers you baptism of the Holy Ghost, know he is a liar.• Do you still wish to have the baptism of fire ?


HOLY SPIRIT• What the unction (anointing) of the Holy Spirit? 2 Cor.1:21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath

anointed us, is God; 1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know

all things. 1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth

in you.

(In all the 3 references it is said in past tense- as ”anointed”)

• What anointing is? Who were anointed in the past. Anointing in past was done by pouring oil, it was separating a person

or a thing, appointed for a special work or use.• Kings, Prophets, priests, instruments in the tabernacle were

anointed. (1.King 19: 16; Ex.30: 30; Ex.40: 9)• All believers are now anointed as Royal priests. Christ the head, From head it flows to body (Ps. 133: 2; Lev.21:12; 1. Jn.2: 27)

Already anointed; how can one ask you to get anointing?


HOLY SPIRIT The seal of the Holy Spirit 2 Cor. 1:22 (It is God) Who hath also sealed us. Eph. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, …. in whom also after that ye

believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. Eph. 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

• Seals were used from time past Letters or writings (Est.8: 8) Things, People, trees (Rev.7: 3) Sepulture (Mat.27: 66) were sealed

(Shows the Ownership, Authority, Security, Assurance of irrevocability)

• Why we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise ? We are sealed unto the day of redemption (Eph.4: 30)

(Know you are also sealed, the same moment you are saved.)


HOLY SPIRIT• Earnest of the Holy Spirit 2 Cor.1:22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. 2 Cor. 5:5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

• Earnest or advance is the term of business transactions It can be advance (Lk.10: 35) Can be pledge (Gen.38: 18)• For us earnest is the selfsame Spirit (Pledge of Greater price)

• Why we are given the earnest in our heart? For the assurance of the redemption of the purchased

possession, unto the praises of his glory

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken

your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.


HOLY SPIRIT• For whom, and when the Holy Spirit is given ?

John 7:39 But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive:

Acts 5:32 Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him

Gal. 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Gal. 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

• John.3: 5 Born of the Spirit one becomes the child of God. • Rom.8: 9 If any man have not the Spirit of Christ he is none of

his• Rom. 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

(When a person believe then he receives the Holy Spirit)

Can anybody say; born again but still waiting for the Holy Spirit?


HOLY SPIRIT• Holy Spirit indwells in every believer• John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; …but ye know him; for he

dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.• 1 Cor. 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?• 1 Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the

Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God.

• 1 Pet. 4:14 for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:• 2 Tim 1:14 That.. keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.• Rom. 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you,……by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.• James 4:5 … The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

(Unlike the past Holy Spirit who came down from heaven on the day of Pentecost will not return; or depart from a

believer)

• Beware of those who teaches to tarry for Holy Spirit, or invites you to attend their so called “tarry meetings”


HOLY SPIRIT• Be filled with the Holy Spirit•

• Both in Old and New Testament. Bezeleel -For the construction of the tabernacle (Ex.31: 2-

3) John the Baptist – To preach to bring repentance (Lk.1: 5) Elizabeth – Praised God (Lk.1: 41) Zachariah- Prophesied (Lk.1: 67)

• Be filled with the Spirit (Eph.5: 18) To have a victorious family life (Eph.5: 22- 6:9) To have victory over constant spiritual warfare (Eph.6: 10-17) To be effective and fruitful in the ministries (Acts.6: 3)

Stephen a man full of faith and Holy Ghost (Acts.6: 5) Ananias..Brother Saul.. And be filled with Holy Ghost (Acts.9:17) Barnabas- He was good man and full of Holy Ghost (Acts.11: 24)

(Not a one time experience, but a continuous experience)


HOLY SPIRIT• Be filled with the Holy Spirit

• Lord Jesus Christ our example Full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan (Lk.4: 1,2) Retuned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee (Lk.4: 11) I cast out devils by the Spirit of God (Mat.12: 28)

• List from Acts of the Apostles Apostles on the day of Pentecost- Acts.2: 4- Spoke in tongues Peter was filled with Holy Ghost –Acts.4: 8- Preached boldly They were filled with Holy Ghost– Acts.4: 31-Spoke boldly Stephen full of the Holy Ghost – Acts.7: 55- Faced martyrdom Paul was filled with Holy Ghost-Acts. 13: 9- Rebuked sorcerer Disciples were ……..Holy Ghost-Acts.13:52- Joyful at difficulty

• Strength for the time of need in each situation• Not the same experience or effect every time• Out of all list one time only spoken in tongues


HOLY SPIRIT• Helps us to pray Holy Spirit helps us call him Abba father (Rom.8: 15: 2.Tim.1: 7)

Helps to pray always with supplication in the Spirit (Eph.6:18) Helps to make intercession with groaning (Rom.8: 26) Helps to make intercession to the will of God (Rom.8: 27) Helps to agree in prayer (Mat.18: 18)

The Son taught us whom to pray; (Jn.14: 13; 15: 16) Holy Spirit indwells in us and helps to pray; We pray in Jesus name.

Is it right? “prayer to the Holy Spirit”- very common these days.

• John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

• Mat. 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my

Father which is in heaven.

Those who appeals to pray; are they guided by the Holy Spirit?


HOLY SPIRIT Helps in evangelism.• The source of strength to witness (Acts. 1: 8)• Guides to choose the place or person (Acts. 16: 6-10)• Will give wisdom to speak (Lk.21: 13-15)• Convict in the heart of hearers (Jn. 16: 8)• Will lead to believe in Christ (1.Cor.12: 3)• Works out new birth in him (Jn.3: 3; 5)• Makes to know He dwells in him (1. Jn.4: 13)• Witness to his spirit (Rom.8: 16)

Indwells and Works in the Believer• Help to put on the spiritual nature (Rom.8: 9)• Helps to discern the things of God (1.Cor.1: 15)• Helps to wait to put on incorruptible (2.Cor.5: 5)• Helps to say “No” to the passions of this world (Tit.3:12)• Will lead to all the truth (Jn.16: 13)• Will teach and bring all to remembrance (Jn.14: 26)


HOLY SPIRIT

• Helps to bear the fruit of the Spirit Gal. 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,

longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance; against such there is no law.

(Different nine yet said as fruit- all to be seen in a person) Love, Joy, Peace (towards self) Long-sufferings, gentleness, goodness (towards others) faith, meekness, temperance (towards God)

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns,

or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit;

but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. (Mat.7: 16-17) Gifts may be misused (Rom.11: 29)

• Manifestation of the gifts are not the sign to discern a spiritual; but it is the manifestation of the fruit in him.


HOLY SPIRIT• Imparts Spiritual gifts to every believer.• Gifts given for the profit with all (1.Cor. 12: 7-30)• Divides to everyman as He will (v.11)• To one is given ……….another (v.8-10)• Function like members in a body (v.14)• Are all apostles; Are all prophets (v.29)• When you come together, everyone of you have.. (v.26)

HOLY SPIRIT• Why Apostle Peter was needed in each occasions?

• Mat.16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:

(not the key but Keys; and not of the kingdom of God)

• Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

• First time in Jerusalem (Acts.2: 14-42) Among Jews• Second time in Samaria (Acts.8:14-25) Among Samaritans• Third time at Cornelius house (Acts.10- &11) Among gentiles

(Apostle Peter in three occasions; Holy Spirit given with signs)

• At Ephesus –Paul only (Acts.19:1-9) Jews –followers of John (For among those never heard about Holy Spirit- sign given)

Do need Apostles to come in order to receive Holy Spirit now?


HOLY SPIRIT• What were the sign in each places ?• Jerusalem- Among Jews – Acts. 2: 1-13

Holy Spirit came and rested upon them- Spoke in tongues (all events Acts.2: 1-3 also) Jews looked for signs-1.Cor.1: 22)

• Samaria- Not Jew or gentile- (origin- 2.Kings.17)

Acts.8: 12-25- When Peter laid hand they received Holy Spirit Sign was there, but not specified (If not Samaritans would have remained separate- Jn. 4: 20)

• Cornelius house-Acts.10 & 11- Gentile

When he was preaching only Spirit came upon them v.44 They spoke in tongues – Acts.10: 45 (Jews never had accepted them as one with them- Acts.11:2)

• At Ephesus- Jews the followers of John Baptist (Acts.19)

After baptized, hands laid - spoke in tongues and prophesied Faith or experience, if experience- which you will follow?


HOLY SPIRIT• Our responsibility now

• Do not resist the Holy Spirit (Acts.7: 52)

Disobey his voice is resisting him, as he guides you

• Grieve not the Spirit of God (Eph.4: 30)

Sin grieves the Spirit of God, as he indwells in you

• Quench not the Spirit (1.The.5: 19)

Do not hindrance his work in you

• Be ye filled with the Spirit (Eph.5: 18)

Yielding yourselves for Holy spirit’s full control

(Know him as a person who teaches and guides you)

He abides in you; he cannot leave you He wants to work in you and thru you He wants the complete control of you

Gal.5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy

Which sin God cannot forgive? 1 John 1:7 the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

What Holy Spirit is doing now? John 16:8-9 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; (Read Rom. 3: 25)1 John 5:10 He that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because

he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.1 Sam. 2:25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him.

• Is it not a second blessing to receive the Spirit of God? Is it a second blessing? - read Rom. 8: 23• Is it not true Peter was send at 3 occasions to receive? Do we need apostles to come even now? See slide 29 & 30• Is it not the gift of tongue the evidence of receiving Spirit? Written anywhere that tongues will be the sign?• Is there different tongues as gift and signs? Gift of tongue turned as a sign; Then what prophecy ?

• Do we need to tarry to receive the Spirit? Is there any command to tarry? Show the scripture.• Have not the Apostles tarried? Yes they were commanded, since Christ was not glorified Holy Spirit as comforter was not sent (Jn.15:7; Acts.1: 4)• What is wrong if we tarry as they tarried? How can we tarry for the Spirit who came down already?

• Is not Charismatic movement a revival? No. It is following the experience of Agnes Osman -AD.1900 (Read any history of Pentecostal movement- will

understand)• Why not give importance and follow the experience? For what you give importance; to the Apostles doctrine or to the

experiences of any person?• What is the revival then? Revival is going back to the Word of God and practicing it. (Read and follow Acts. 2: 42)

• The extra ordinary growth a sign of the divine origin? What you think about other heretics and cults?• Not only Pentecostals but others also have tongues? Will you agree all have it from the same Spirit? If so why stand as

different, why cannot merge as one, and speak same thing.• So do you mean there is no Holy Spirit? Very strange question often asked. What you have learnt thru the

study thus far?


HOLY SPIRIT• Why not seeking signs, miracles and

healings?

• What was the purpose of signs and miracles? Mk. 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where,

the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Heb. 2:4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

(God confirmed his word with miracles and wonders)

• Why the signs not necessary? (Not needed continuously) Num. 11:25 And Jehovah came down in ,.. when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.

• Do miracles still needed to believe? John 10:41-42 And many came unto him; and they said, John

indeed did no sign: but all things whatsoever John spake of this man were true. And many believed on him there.

(An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign-Mat.16: 4)


HOLY SPIRIT• Why not giving importance to the Tongues? It is written tongues will cease (Not only tongues) 1.

Cor.13:8• Why neglect the signs? Signs are for the unbelievers – 1.Cor. 14: 22; Mat.16: 4 Faith is believing God’s word – Heb.11: 1; Rom.10: 17• Are we not doing miracles and wonders? Yes. What we read of such- Mat. 7: 22- 23; 24: 24

• What Jesus said the Holy Spirit will do? John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto

you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

• John 16:13-14 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

HOLY SPIRIT• Beware of these things• 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the

spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

• Tongues and interpretations (Existed but now ceased)

Practice of some Christian groups- while they themselves agree

many are imitations or false. (What the need of tongues now?)

• Emotional excess In many pagan religions exhibited similar from time past.

• Pushing down. (Pushes to fall down)

• Slain of the spirit (Remain fainted)

• What will be added next, catching the snakes ? ( Heard it is practiced elsewhere?) These things existed or known in the early church?

• 2 Tim. 1:7 For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.
