So that, we might be sent to witness the Good News of the Paschal Mystery in loving service to the human family; and be united with Him and His Saints in Heaven forever.

Holy Spirit Parish Family welcomes our Reverend Deacon Steve Dove and his family back to public ministry after his sabbatical year. Deacon Steve and Lilibeth have been greatly missed by the people and now we are so glad that their presence will be among us once again. The clergy and the parishioners are looking forward to welcoming Deacon Steve on June 7th. Father Eli

Since the beginning of the coronavirus quarantine, Father Eli, Father Glen Pothier, and Monsignor Gabriel Ghanoum, and the Staff of Holy Spirit worked together to record the Sunday Mass each week. Never in our parish history, have we had to record our Mass and download it through our parish website and YouTube . Our Choir Director, Darren Matias, has expertise in this technology and was put to use from recording to editing. We are so blessed to have him. We also want to thank Mr. Joe Cece for running our website all these years specially during quarantine. Remember, if you would like to watch the Mass, please go to YouTube and type holyspiritlantana.com. We also extend our sincere appreciation to our parishioners who continue to send their Weekly Offertory each week. Also, our Sandwich Ministry was able to distribute lunch bags to the homeless during this time of uncertainty. We are very grateful to those who brought donations of any kind to the office. Thank you for your generosity.

Today, Pentecost Sunday, our parish feast day and birthday of the church, our parish together with all the parishes in the Diocese of Palm Beach will resume celebrating Sunday Liturgy. It is fitting, that after almost three months of canceling our daily and Sunday Masses, we, in one accord, will resume our Sunday obligation on Pentecost Sunday. Let us all embrace the changes in our Liturgy as our Bishop Barbarito pointed out in his letter last week, these changes are temporary and for the good and safety of everyone. Not Singing in me of Covid-19 By Darren Ma as Pope Francis used to say, “when you sing and make music, you unfold the meaning and depth of the Liturgy.” Singing is, indeed, the highest expression of our faith and love of God. During these unprecedented mes however, the act of singing is now a threat to the safety of our community. According to a May 5, 2020 webinar from various arts and medical organiza ons with panelists including ar sts and medical professionals, that including the Na onal Associa on of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and Performing Arts Medical Associa on (PAMA), their primary conclusion is that there is no safe way for singers to sing together un l there is a vaccine that is widely available and a treatment protocol that is 95% effec ve. Scien sts think this may be 18-24 months away. There are no available solu ons to this. Singing through masks can s ll shed pathogens because of the act itself. Even wearing the most effec ve ones makes you rebreathe the same air that over me causes you to have a drop in oxygen levels and rise of carbon dioxide which is not good for asthma and heart disease. We are discouraged from trying to find other sources of barriers. With this in mind, I have mandated temporarily that the choir, children’s choir, and wind and brass instrumental musicians will not come together in ministry and that the congrega on is discouraged from singing including the most important songs during the consecra on. As your music director, this is a prudent response to the science and data available in front of us. So friends, if we can’t sing and play our music together for some months, where do we go from here? What can we do? There is a tempta on to rush to get to normalcy and get through this quickly. Let us please not do that. In fact, as you come back to church at Pentecost, this is a me of heightened listening and observa on. I have a suspicion that the Holy Spirit’s presence is felt more than ever. We should take the me to observe it move through our hearts. What a beau ful me to come back to church. Though we will miss the choir rehearsals, the funny rehearsals ins gated by our fun choir members, the unexpected spiritual beauty of a singing congrega on, the nerve-wracking reac ons of choir members who are suddenly singing a solo yet rising to the occasion with flying colors, the dream of a holiday concert, the surprise visits of Father Eli during the children’s choir rehearsals, the free food that suddenly pops up… though we will miss all of this, we know that the Lord will raise us up in due

me. Let the Word of God ride through you and allow the space of music to move you deeply in faith during this me. As our formidable hymn, O God Beyond All Praising, goes, “and whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill, we’ll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you s ll.” Though we have our sorrows during these difficult mes, I look forward to rising with you in worship. We may not be able to sing, but our song of love of Jesus is louder than ever.

Prayer for God’s Protection

in the face of the Coronavirus

Loving and gracious God,

as in all time, we turn to You and implore Your protection and healing as we face a new threat to our health

and peaceful well-being in the coronavirus pandemic before us.

Help us to be united with each other and with all of our brothers and

sisters around the world affected by this illness.

We pray for all those in the medical field who are assisting patients and

in the field of science who are discerning a cure, as well as for all

government leaders. Remember those who, through this virus, have passed from this life as well as their

families in their loss.

At the time of fragile uncertainty, we also humbly implore You to

grant us prudence, hope, courage and patience. Dispel from us fear, panic and distrust which disrupt us

in spirit to the detriment of our well-being.

We make our prayer in the name of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus

Christ, who always cured those who were sick with various diseases and

drove out many demons. Our Lady, Patroness of our Diocese,

Queen of the Apostles and Comforter of the Afflicted,

pray for us,

Amen.

This is a difficult year for celebration. Amid our challenges we may have put in the background our joy, our renewal and our strength of faith. So the challenge question is this: How did you celebrate and grow in the past 93 days? What led to the celebration of the first Pentecost? What caused the Apostles to answer the commission of faith to be sent forth into the world, to spread the faith in which they were CONFIRMED? If you read the scriptures of these past holy

days from Ash Wednesday to this Sunday of Pentecost and you spent some time placing yourself in that journey of sacrifice and love, this PENTECOST becomes your sending forth. Accepting our faith in such a way that it becomes who we are. It now defines our actions and reflects the presence of the Holy Spirit, not simply above us, but within us. So, go forth from this Pentecost Into the world committed to spread the love of God for all mankind, in our words, in our actions and in our prayer. This is what drew people to seek the word of God and find his HOPE, his LOVE, and his MERCY.

Come and see a poster project made by Lilly for her American Girl Heritage. The poster can be seen in the parish office and will be on display for two weeks. As you know, Lilly is very active in our parish. She has the beautiful voice of an Angel and she also is a Lector at the 12:00 noon Mass. Good Luck, Lilly!

How to Protect Yourself and Others During this Pandemic There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Antibody tests are still being evaluated by the FDA before the FDA and CDC can give their stamp of approval. Many of the tests available are expensive and unreliable and are not recommended to determine if a person has the antibodies needed for immunity. Still the best recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is to prevent contracting the illness by avoiding the exposure to the virus. As businesses and services begin to re-open, it is paramount to avoid close person-to-person contact by putting distance between yourself and other people outside of your home. Avoid contact with known sick people, stay at least

6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people, do not gather in groups, and stay out of crowded places and avoid large gatherings. Remember, recent studies suggest that Covid-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms. Since the droplets enter the body through the eyes, nose and mouth, the CDC recommends the use of a cloth face cover (over mouth and nose) when out in public, for example to the grocery store or to pick up other necessities. The cloth face covering is not a substitute for social distancing. It is also suggested that glasses or sunglasses be worn to protect

droplets from entering the eyes. Keep a bag of moist disinfectant wipes with you to wipe cart handles, door handles and any public surfaces you may touch. Don’t forget to wipe your car door handles and steering wheel when you return from shopping as you may have transferred germs to these areas. Immediately wash your hands when returning home. Clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not readily available. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks. If surfaces are dirty, clean them using a detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection. **If you have a sore throat, fever and cough and think you have the novel coronavirus stay home and call your doctor. If your doctor is not immediately available, call 866-779-6121 for the Florida covid-19 call center.

The celebration of a Christian’s life brings hope and consolation to the liv-ing. As we plan for our eternal life, it is always good to remember those that we love. Having a Will is good stewardship.

When there is a Will there is a way to be an angel for your par-ish. Please remember Holy Spirit Catholic Church in your Will.

These gifts help us to build a solid foundation for the Catholic formation of future generations. We appreciate the thoughtful-ness of parishioners who have left bequests to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
