FROM THE DESK OF THE ADMINISTRATOR

Due to some early deadlines, I need to be generic about the inserts you will find in today’s bulletin. On 15 May I participated in a conference call concerning the creation of our new parish grouping as well as some other parish reorganizations that are a part of the On Mission for the Church Alive! planning process. One in-sert is the letter regarding our change of parishes in the grouping that was read last weekend. Actually, there are two letters – one specifically for SNP and another for the rest of our parishes. In addition, there is an informational sheet about the new grouping that incorporates SNP. All the letters and informational sheet can also be found on our website. While Memorial Day or Decoration Day is the “unofficial” start to summer, we need to recall its real purpose – honoring the men and women who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. To our living veter-ans, thanks for your service! To those who have died, may they rest in peace and, in God’s good Providence, know our gratefulness for fighting to preserving the free-doms we experience each and every day. With that in mind, I remind you that tomorrow, on Memorial Day, there will be just one Mass celebrated in our grouping at 9:00 AM at SBP. All the talk about my anniversary next month re-minded me that we have Priests celebrating anniversa-ries THIS month! Fr. Jim Mazurek marked his 46th anni-versary earlier this month, on 5 May. Today is Fr. Jerry Lutz’s 63rd anniversary. Fr. Miro Stelmaszczyk celebrates his 42nd anniversary this week on 29 May. Congratula-tions Fathers! Ad multos annos – To many more years! This Thursday, 30 May, is the Solemnity of the As-cension, a Holy Day of Obligation. It’s hard to believe that forty days have already passed since Easter! How time flies! Our Mass times can be found in the Mass schedule. With this mid-week celebration, we have the full schedule of Holy Day Masses. Hope to see you at Mass. Next Sunday, the Holy Rosary Society of St. Nicholas Parish will be celebrating their 95th Anniversary. The Most Reverend William J. Waltersheid, auxiliary Bishop and our Regional Vicar here in Pastoral Vicariate I, will preside at the 8:30 AM Mass and join in the celebration afterwards. Congratulations Ladies! Keep praying for our good and that of the whole world. See you in Church! Fr. Jim Gretz

PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU; MY PEACE I GIVE TO YOU

As the Church prepares to celebrate the Ascension of Jesus into heaven and the descent of the Holy Spirit

upon the Apostles at Pentecost, we encounter today’s Gospel which is a source of great life and hope. In the course of this brief passage Jesus speaks of he and the Father dwelling with those who love them and of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, being sent to teach them, and then he bestows his peace on them, telling them not to be troubled or afraid. The realities this Gospel presents mean a great deal in our own lives as we strive to follow the example of the disciples and be faithful followers of Jesus today. To know that the Lord dwells with us means that we are never alone and always have God’s protec-tion and guidance. To know that the Lord sends His Spirit as our Advocate means that he moves in living and effec-tive ways to provide for us. To know that the Lord be-stows his peace upon us means that as we trust in him our anxiety and worry can be no more. All of these gifts are important as the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative continues to take shape in our parishes and groupings. As we strive to do the work in the Lord in light of the gifts he has given us we can trust in his guid-ance and peace. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.
