PRIEST’S REPORT

Dear Family, As we leave the season of Christmas and

enter the season of Epiphany let’s all take a collective breath and still our busy thoughts. Let’s

focus on the light that led the magi to the child in the manger. This month we will also celebrate the Baptism of our Lord. This is an excellent time for

us to once again look into our Book of Common Prayer and go through the Catechism which begins on page 845. This is once again a time of preparation for us as we look forward to the season of Lent. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to do an in-depth study.

We will be having the End of Life Planning the last two weeks of Epiphany that was suggested by the Diocese. To quote a friend of mine, one of the greatest gifts her husband gave her was the information discussed in these classes. This is not a class for “old people”, many of us have been widowed in our 40’s and 50’s and trying to sort out what our loved one would have wanted is daunting. Please try to attend these classes on February 24th and March 3rd.

Please don’t forget that our annual meeting will be held this month. If you have any information that you would like to have passed on to the congregation, please contact the office or one of your Vestry Members.

We have finished the book study that Dena Knox led through Advent and I would like to thank her for her guidance and wisdom. “Learning to Walk in the Dark” has been enlightening (no pun intended) and has given me pause.

May God’s Peace and Blessings walk with you on our continuing journey together. Lin+

SENIOR WARDEN’S REPORT May the God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace in 2019. I would like to thank the vestry and the people of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for your prayers and help during this transitional year following the departure of Fr. Tom and Mary Catherine Fiske and the arrival of Rev. Lin Davenport. I think God has given us an opportunity to be good stewards of the gifts that He has given us. May we continue to be good stewards.

At our last vestry meeting we decided to put up a new bulletin board. We will display our monthly vestry minutes and financial statements. We will also publish the financial account totals in each Grapevine to allow people to see the totals and make contributions as they see fit.

Our next Mutual Ministry Review will be held January 12th starting at 9 A.M. We will have Fr. Joel Dingman in attendance. One order of business will be to start the discernment process for calling Rev. Lin Davenport to be our priest. We will also review how we are doing. If anyone has questions or concerns, please write them in a letter and give it to one of the vestry or me.

Our annual meeting will be held January 20th immediately after the service with a potluck luncheon. I would like to give a preview of discussion items. 1) We will present a job description for a part-time parish administrator and discuss hiring one. The vestry asked Sheryl Matthews, our treasurer, to include money to pay the parish administrator in the 2019 budget. We will discuss this at the meeting. 2) The vestry has gathered information on buying an AED (automated external defibrillator) to present for approval. We are also getting information on an oxygen delivery system and will present it as well. 3) We will elect new vestry members, delegates and alternate delegates. Marty Phillips, junior warden and I have agreed to continue one more year serving as junior warden and senior warden respectively and will need to be elected. Dena Knox has agreed to serve another two years and will need to be elected as last year she was elected to serve a one-year term. If we follow our tradition, Vivian Watson and Dena Knox our alternate delegates to convention will need to be elected as our delegates. We will need to elect two alternate delegates. We will need to elect two new vestry members each to serve a three-year term as Sheryl Matthews and Rollie Parkison have completed their three-year terms. Sheryl will remain as Treasurer for at least another year.

At the annual meeting we hope to have picture directories available as well as an updated Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (HTEC) prayer cycle. Each member is welcome to take a directory and prayer cycle.

We did get the grant submitted to the Episcopal Church Foundation for $5,000 to help fund the “Undoing Racism” seminar that will be held in March 2019. The breakdown of the $5,000 is $4,500 from the Foundation and $500 from HTEC. The money will be paid from the Mustard Seed account. That account is our outreach and education account.

I hope that many of you will attend the annual meeting. My prayer for all of you in 2019 is for a grace-filled year that strengthens us in our stewardship mission to Holy Trinity, to Gillette and to our work in northeast Wyoming. As in Corinthians 16:34 “Let all that you do be done in love.”

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all, now and always. Your loving servant in Christ, Maggi McCreery-McCoy, Senior Warden

SUNDAY SCHOOL REPORT Goats, Chickens and Rabbits, Oh My!!!

Thanks to the generosity and sweet tooths of our congregation, a total of $526 was raised from the Sunday School Bake Sale! All the proceeds were sent to Heifer International, an organization that pairs gifts of livestock with families in developing countries that desperately need a source of income or extra nourishment. Did you know that we were able to purchase 2 dairy goats and 5 baskets that hold rabbits and a starter flock of chickens? At least 7 families will get a Christmas present that will make a big difference in their lives! And these are gifts that keep on giving. Goats often have two to three kids a year, and the extra milk can be sold or used to make cheese or yogurt. The chickens lay eggs, an important source of protein, and rabbits produce, well, themselves! So thank you Holy Trinity for making life better for people half a world away! Merry Christmas from the Sunday School Kids and teachers. Karin Ebertz
