transformed into a beautiful cookbook which will go on sale

on our Online Christmas Shop from 16th - 30th November.

We are looking for traditional recipes passed down through

family generations, culturally diverse recipes, recipes specifi-

cally for children or for families to cook together, Christmas

and other festival recipes. If you can mix it, chop it, stir it,

cook it or bake it, it can be

included.

Please could you send me your recipe of choice and include in

the email:

Your Family Name

The reason why you have chosen your recipe, eg. The

best chocolate cake ever!

how many you can send me, the more the merrier but no

photos of handwritten recipes please, if you could type the

recipe in the email that would be wonderful thank you. I

would hate to get anything wrong!

We are asking for a small donation of £2 for your entries, to

go towards the printing costs. Please could you kindly make

Friday 25th September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers, What a busy week we have had! We finished with our baseline assess-ments last week and we have now commenced our lessons: Alphabet code, Literacy, Maths, Science and Art.

Reminders: Phonics workshop: Monday 28th September at 9.10 in the Cadogan playground

Have a lovely weekend Miss Martin

Literacy- Reception children listened to the story of “Funny Bones” by Allan Ahlberg. They really enjoyed labelling the different parts of the body of the skeletons as well as learning about rhyming words. Maths- The children were introduced to our Numicon shapes (1-10). They also worked on their counting, ordering and number formation skills.

We have been working on number formation with this song: https://

Topic- Our Science topic this term is ‘Slimy Things’. The children experimented playing with cornflour and water. They mixed both ingredients together and described how it felt: runny, thick, firm, fluid, liquid, etc. They enjoyed getting their hands messy, adding colour to it and seeing how the mixture changed from liquid to solid. Art- We finished painting our self-portraits.

RE- How do Christians believe the world began? The children listened to the story of creation using ‘The Children’s Bible’ with Mrs. Hylton.

Learning at Holy Trinity in Year 1

25th September 2020

This week in English, we started our new story ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. We se-

quenced the events of the story with our partner and retold the story using story telling

language. We then took part in a role-play of the story in groups and performed these to

our friends. We also began to look at adjectives and how we can use adjectives to de-

scribe the appearance and personality of different characters from the story.

In Maths, we started addition within 10. We looked at different strategies to help us solve

addition problems, such as counting on and using our number bonds. We know that we

add the parts to find the whole and if one part is missing, we can use our knowledge of

number bonds to help us work out the missing part. We also looked at how we could

make solving addition problems quicker for ourselves by counting on from the greater

number and swapping the parts around. Next week, we will start to look at subtraction

within 10.

In Alphabet codes we looked at all the different codes for /igh/. We discovered igh as in

high, ie as in pie, i as in kind, y as in by and i-e as in like. Next week, we will be in-

vestigating all the different codes for /oa/.

In Science, we continued our topic of ‘Who am I’. This week, we started our investigation

into the senses. This week we focused on sight. We discussed how our eyes need light to

see and we looked in detail at the different parts of the eye. We looked at our own eyes

in a mirror and tried to draw and label them. We then investigated which is the most

popular eye colour in Year One.

In Computing, we looked at e-safety and what this means. We discussed how we can

keep ourselves safe online and read a story about ‘Smartie the Penguin’ and how Smartie

makes sure he is safe online.

In Art, we looked at the work of Leonardo Di Vinci. We discussed how Leonardo Di Vinci

made his paintings and drawings look realistic. We looked at how he used lines to add

detail to his drawings and thought about the different ways we could use lines in our

work. We came up with some different patterns and styles using only lines and experi-

mented with the amount of pressure we applied to our pencils.

Another fantastic week of learning.

Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend J

Learning in Year 2 at Holy Trinity

Friday 25th September 2020

In English this week, we have been learning to identify the past and present tense. We have also been planning our own stories and writing them as a final draft in the past tense, including adjectives, and a variation of conjunctions. In Maths, we have been learning about subtraction, starting with 1-digit and 2 digit without regrouping and progressing to 2 digit to 2 digit without regrouping. In RE we have been learning more about Moses and discussing different stories, especially the burning bush. We have been discussing how belief in God affects actions of people in the Old Testament.

In science, we watched a short video on living processes and discussed the differences for animals comparing them to other non-living items. We looked at different cartoon images and categorised them into living, non-living and dead items. I am now providing a paper copy of the homework on Thursdays so please give back the green homework books on Monday to get marked.

Learning in Year 3 at Holy Trinity

Friday 25th September 2020

Have a lovely weekend!

In Maths we have started subtracting numbers within 1000 using the column method. The first lessons centred around subtracting numbers together that did not require ‘regrouping’ but we soon tackled trickier questions involving regrouping by the end of the week and the homework will reflect this. In Literacy we have looked at using adjectives to describe aliens using our topic of Adventure and started looking at how we can use speech marks to show that someone is talking. This week in History we considered what historical artefacts are and how they can help us learn about life in the Stone Age. In R.E. we learned about why Israel is important to Jewish people and where it is on the map. In Science we investigated which surfaces are shiny or dull. In Art we have made sculptures inspired by Antony Gormley using tin foil. In Maths next week we will continue adding and subtracting numbers within 1000 using the column method and regrouping. In Literacy we will continue to think about the theme of Adventure writing and try to write about our own adventures – real or imaginary. In Science the children will try to make a light maze using mirrors...

In History we are going to look at how the beginning of farming affected Stone Age life and changed it from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle to a more settled pattern of living. In Art we are going to make our own models based on the human form but not necessarily influenced by Antony Gormley.

Learning in Year 4 at Holy Trinity Friday 25th September

This week has been assessment week and Year 4 have been troopers through the whole thing! In English this week we looked at features of a diary entry as we are going to write a diary entry as if we were Tadeo Jones on an adventure through a pyramid. In Reading, we started our whole-class book, George’s Marvellous Medicine. In Maths we ended our place value unit by comparing and ordering numbers from smallest to greatest. Next week we will start addition and subtraction of 4-digit numbers with regrouping. We had a lot of fun in History learning about the beginning of the Tudor era. We role-played the life of King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth and completed a directed drawing of a Tudor rose. In Science we learnt that animals can be split into vertebrates and invertebrates and we tested the strength of a backbone on playdough animals. In PSHE, we discussed change and loss which are two inevitable parts of life. We read the story The Invisible String and created hearts to connect us to people/things we’ve lost. Good questions to ask your child this week are:

Why did Queen Elizabeth I not get married? What are some animals that are invertebrates (no backbone)? What are the key features of a diary entry?

Reminders:

Homework is given out on Friday and returned the following Friday. Reading records must be filled out and signed every day. These are returned on

Friday. PE shoes to be brought to school in a bag. Not to be worn to school. Students need to have snack –fruit or vegetable. When students play and run

around at breaktime (10:40am), if they have snack, they are able to refuel for the next hour and a half of learning before lunch.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Miss Harman

Word of the week: Amiable - friendly

Learning in Year 5 at Holy Trinity

25th September 2020

We’ve zoomed through week 3 in Year 5! It has been a slightly different week as we have com-

pleted several assessments in Math, English and Reading. All the students tried their absolute

best, and this was fantastic to see.

In Science this week the children put their researching skills to the test and found out some inter-

esting facts about famous scientists and their incredible discoveries. Then, we carefully plotted

the scientists on a timeline and developed our understanding that discoveries can be made at

any point in time, not just in the olden days! We have also reflected upon the need for discover-

ies and how they have shaped the world.

This week Miss Birmingham introduced a new concept to the students, a Class Meeting. A Class

Meeting provides children with the opportunity to discuss and learn about community and world

issues outside their own world and to expand their capacity to understand and accept the views

and perspectives of others. It also helps in creating a more tolerant and respectful community. It

expands children’s minds beyond the immediate and egocentric concerns of arguments and con-

flicts between themselves to wider community and global issues. It empowers the voice of the

child and provides leadership opportunities through chairing and leading a Class Meeting.

It was great to facilitate this very interesting concept and observe the students speaking, listen-

ing and contributing very thoughtful opinions on big matters. This lends an opportunity for dis-

cussion at home which can lead swiftly into the classroom during the Class Meeting. Students are

encouraged to research in preparation for the next meeting by watching the news, reading the

newspaper or using the internet to become a more informed citizen. We already can’t wait for

the next one!

An excellent week in Year 5!

Have a lovely weekend

Learning at in Year 6 Holy Trinity

Friday 25th September 2020

In English, we have continued to learn about different tools that we can use for an exciting story opening. We focused on adverbials, infinite verbs and embedded clauses to make our sentences more interesting. In Maths, we have been very busy doing assessments to check our understanding and will continue with our place value topic next week. In Science, we continued our study into the circulatory system, focusing on the lungs. We thought about our heart and lungs and the impact exercise can have. Using stethoscopes and stop watches, we calculated our heart rates. In RE, we discussed suffering and how the Eightfold Paths can stop suffering by understanding that sometimes things are out of our control, making the right decisions, not speaking unkindly or in anger and being thoughtful and considerate toward others. In History we explored the major events from WW2 to create a timeline. In Art, we used our knowledge of textures and bold, bright colours present in Pop Art to create a self-portrait. We had another exciting week with our sheep creating an assault course.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Next week

Maths – We continue with place value. English – we will be writing our very own story opening Science – we will be dissecting a heart
