Happy November, Everyone! Our busiest time of the year is quickly approaching. We are very excited about all of our upcoming events! The PTO would like to thank everyone who attended the Halloween Carnival. It was such a fun night! We had several arts & crafts for the kids to do, a number of games and prizes, food and face painting. The big event is always our Pie Throwing Booth. We appreciate all your hard work!

The PTO is proud to announce the winner of our Box Tops War is Ms. Donaruma’s 3 rd grade class! Congratulations! They will receive a pizza party compliments of the PTO. Thank you to everyone who sent in box tops. Please know you can download the app and scan your grocery receipts for box tops now!

We are very excited to be selling Mackey’s pies for Thanksgiving! We are offering apple, apple walnut, blueberry, cherry and pumpkin. Each pie is $12.00. Our traditional Holiday Shoppe is scheduled to run from Monday, De-cember 2, 2019 to Friday, December 6, 2019. Once again, we have won-derful items for the students to purchase. Information will be forthcom-ing as to the date your child’s class will be going to the Shoppe.

The Breakfast with Santa will be on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. We will have a craft for the kids to do, a writing station where they can write a letter to Santa, an elf reading corner and of course have their picture taken with Santa! There will be hot choco-late and treats for the kids to enjoy. Our 6th, 7th and 8th graders will

have a table set up to sell reindeer food. They are raising money to pay for their trip to Washington, D.C. Please be sure to buy a couple of bags!

This year in place of the traditional Holiday Luncheon, we will be doing a Holiday Breakfast. Our teachers and staff will be choosing the menu. We are very excited to try something new this year and know everyone is going to love it!!

Finally, the PTO wanted to try something new. We have had a number of parents express how much they would like to be a part of our events but because of work and family schedules, they are unable. So we thought we would try and allow people to be a part of an event by making a donation. Prior to an event, we are going to email a list of items that are needed for that event. The items could range from paper products to water to baked goods. If you are in a position to donate something, you just have to reach out to the PTO. This could allow parents/guardians who are unable to volunteer at the actual event to still be a big part of it. This also allows the PTO to spend less on food and paper prod-ucts and more on our students and school!

Thank you to all our volunteers for all your hard work. We were very touched by how many came to help at the Halloween Carnival. It’s because of all of you that we are able to do what we do.

Nursing Nook:

Cold & Flu Season is upon us! Use these tips to get through the season:

It is time to get the flu vaccine. The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the most impor-

tant step to staying healthy.

Cover your nose and mouth with your elbow and/or tissue when coughing or sneezing.

Washing your hands is a simple task that is very affective in fighting germs.

Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth!!!

Avoid contact with sick people.

Symptoms of the flu: A QUICK ONSET of high fever, chills, headache, body aches, ear ache, nau-

sea and/or vomiting, and a dry cough.

Guidelines on when to keep your child home from school & when to return:

A temperature of 100 or higher, any vomiting, and/or diarrhea!

Excessive tiredness or lack of appetite.

Productive coughing and sneezing.

Headache, body aches, ear ache

How do I make my child feel better?

Encourage plenty of rest and extra fluids like water, soup, juice, or ice pops.

Limit electronics to promote sleep, read to them, and give lots of TLC.

Use a humidifier and Tylenol/Motrin for fever reduction and comfort (as per recommended

dosages on bottle).

See the doctor if you suspect the flu!!!

Keep them home until they are free of all symptoms for 48 hours.
