REGIONAL SWIMMERS Congratulations to Seth, Xannah, Rani and Frankie who have made it through to the regional swimming carnival. We wish them all the best as they take to the water today.

STUDENT LEADER PANCAKE DAY The student leaders have started the year with an enormous amount of energy and enthusiasm. During our lunchtime meeting creative fun and fundraising ide-as were ‘flying fast’ around my office. Their first event is the PANCAKE DAY on Wednesday. A separate note has been sent out by the leaders. I was so impressed with the team of Madie, Michael and Mia, led by Seth, as they surveyed parent support, organised recipes, shopping lists, advertising and the organisation of the day. They will be more than capable business leaders of the future! I am personally looking forward to a pancake with caramel sauce to sweeten my Wednesday.

Large pancakes $1.50 and small pancakes 50c

P&C PLAYGROUND GRANT SUCCESS Well done to Nikki and the P&C team for your successful grant application through the ‘Australian Government's Local Schools Community Fund.’ Our school was awarded almost $7000 towards our new playground. I met yesterday with our school assets contact and a representative from Forpark Australia play equipment. I will be able to discuss the quote and design with the P&C next meeting and we aim to have the new equipment installed by the end of Term2. This is a FANTASTIC achievement by EVERYONE who has led, and supported, fundraising efforts over the past few years.

Get ready for The Big Vegie Crunch!

On Tuesday 10th

March at 10:45am our school will be joining hundreds of schools across NSW to break the record for the most students crunching vegetables simultaneously.

But we need your help to make it a success!

On Tuesday 10th March, please pack your child a container of vegetables (not fruit this time) for them to crunch on.

Need some ideas?

carrot, celery, cucumber – cut into sticks or left whole

capsicum – cut into sticks or wedges

corn – raw baby corn spears or a cooked corn cob

broccoli or cauliflower florets - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch

tomatoes – small cherry tomatoes or a large tomato that can be eaten like an ap-ple

beans or snow peas - raw or lightly cooked to keep their crunch

mushrooms – sliced or left whole

If you require more information on The Big Vegie Crunch, please contact the school or your child’s teacher.

UPPER DIVISION EXCURSION

The Upper Division are travelling west for their excursion this year. Traditionally we follow the familiar paths over the Blue Mountains, shown to the early English explorers by the indigenous groups who had expert knowledge of their land. We

will visit The Jenolan Caves and explore gold digging areas around Bathurst. This year we are also looking at the possibility of including a visit to The Dubbo Zoo. Excursions are a great learning opportunity for students. As the excursion will be expensive we are encouraging families to begin online payments now. $10-$20.00 a week is an achievable goal.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Begins Yesterday saw the start of the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2020. Within library lessons students will be encouraged to choose books from this year’s list. They and their parents can check out the booklists by searching the Premier’s Reading Challenge 2020 website. Parents are asked to send in the names of any personal books that their child reads at home so I can add them to individual totals. K-2 are required to read 30 books between now and August, while Years 3-6 must read 20 books (not picture books).

How Do I Choose? I have been ‘blown away’ by the number of children who have applied to be a library monitor in 2020. Currently I am reading applications and sorting out the interview process. More soon!

Lower Division master Using the Library Last year Lower Division found it difficult to remember where they got a book from during reading time in the library. It meant books were put back all over the place. This year we are using a card system to help them. Now they select their book and place a long card marker in the spot where the book was taken from. When they finish and need to return the book to the shelf, they simply find their huge ‘bookmark’ and VOILA! They are doing a great job!

Clean Up Australia Day 2020! On Friday the 28

th of February, students, teachers and parent volunteers went

down to Number One beach at Seal Rocks to take part in the annual Clean up Australia Day. It was an absolutely beautiful day, the sun was shining, the water was glistening and dolphins were frolicking in the shore. Upper Division cleaned the southern part of the beach while Lower Division cleaned up the northern end. Students found all sorts of trash in all shapes and forms such as plastic bottles, clothing, Styrofoam and also plenty of micro plastics from unknown things. Some students even found some money and some furniture! Students in Lower Divi-sion sorted and counted all the rubbish from the day. They counted 25 cans, 6 plastic bottles, 44 glass bot-tles, 13 pieces of clothing or fabric, 131 smaller pieces of plastic, 27 plastic lids and 3 pieces of foam all col-lected and disposed of properly by the students from our school – that’s nearly 250 pieces of rubbish that would have ended up at sea! Well done to everyone involved and a big thank you to all the helpers that came along. This paradise we call home is an even more beauti-ful place because of every one of you! Miss Breese
