History of Abeokuta - Continuation
The Egba people were once part of the 25 kingdoms, and ruled by the Oyo empire. They lived together as a huge group but wanted independence, so brought the Oyo empire to its destruction. However, they were having wars against the Oyo empire. They successfully won by using the Olumo rock as defense and sanctuary which led to the founding of Abeokuta. They called the rock Olumo which means The Lord has decided to put and end to the tribal war and it is still called that.In 1832 the Ijebu challenged the Egbas and it was called the Owiwi war. In 1834 the Ibadan also waged another war called the Arakanga war, but they were all defeated by the Egba people. Egba means in Yoruba language accept because all the kingdoms that wanted independents joined them. Abeokuta is also famous for there tie and dye clothings.

The topography for Egba land was also a support for them wining the war, because when they had wars, they will stay on hills until the enemy came to attack them then they would get ready to fight. Another factor that helped them was the Olumo rock they could stay inside the rock and be, covered and because the rock was so huge they could fit up to seven thousand people and lurch brought a surprise attack against their enemies .
