Home composting with De’grade
What do you mean by waste segregation?
• Waste segregation basically means keeping wet and dry wastes separately, so that dry waste can be recycled and wet waste can be composted.
Why should I do it?
• So that it reduces waste that gets landfilled and reduces pollution to air and water.
• So that different processes- composting, recycling, incineration can be applied to different kinds of waste.
• Saves the time and effort of the waste pickers who segregate.

De’grade – What?
4
De’Grade is an aerobic
home composting powder
that helps compost your
wet waste such as; left-over
food (including non-veg*),
fruits, vegetable peels and
flowers in a simple and easy
manner. It accelerates the
composting process while
requiring very little effort
from your side.
*excluding animal bones
How to use De’grade?
Add one inch of degrade in an empty aerated container.
Add a layer of organic waste no more than one inch.
Cover every layer of organic waste with half-inch of De’Grade.
Once the container is full shift aside and let it compost for
21-25 days.

What do I do with the compost?
Add some greenery to your house, take up terrace/kitchen gardening with the seeds provided; use the compost as soil additive.
Grow your own vegetables in your garden organically as the compost produced serves as excellent manure.
Like butterflies? Grow a butterfly themed garden
Still have excess compost? Donate it to make your city greener.

De’grade - composition
7
De’Grade is a consortium of beneficial microbes isolated from tropical agricultural soils, capable of -
a. Accelerating composting
b. Controlling maggots
c. Suppressing smell, in kitchen waste composting.
Blended with bio activated Cocopeat carrier material with optimum parameters to help sustain the microbes and
compost the kitchen waste. Primarily two types of microbes are used in the composition. Majority of
microorganisms responsible for the decomposition of wet waste are aerobic functioning in the presence of
oxygen.
Bacteria: They form the majority of the De’Grade component. But mass wise they are small as Fungi grow into
larger size. There are two further types, Mesophiic bacteria and Thermophillic bacteria. The microbiological
activity starts with the Mesophilic bacteria and then taken over Thermophilic bacteria.
Fungi: These filamentous microbes are used to help physical break down of feedstock. This then is easier for
the biochemical action of decomposition.
LARM (Leachate Absorption Material)
As 50-60% moisture has to be maintained, De’Grade is a blend of fermented cocopeat with high moisture
absorption capacity. During the fermentation process, it’s made weed free and enriched with required nutrient
content for the microbes to survive for 2 months without any further additional nutrient.
Thank you!
