Laser Cutter Turn on 3 switches:

o Trotec Speedy 300 Laser Cutter Power Switcho Exhaust Blower Switcho Fume Hood Exhaust Switch (Near the outside window of Loma 311, red switch on right side).

(The laser exhaust is plumbed into the fume hood ducting.)

Align the Fretboard Marker Fixture in the far right corner of the Lasercutter’s ruler edges. Place your neck on the fixture, aligning your nut slot with the arrows as in the video.

Press the Up and Down buttons simultaneously to auto-focus the table height, as in the video.

Computer for the Laser Cutter (L311-1) In Autocad 2004, zoom in on the set of Fretboard markers that you prefer (3 options).

Zoom and Pan such that only the set of markers you want fills the entire screen, as in the video. Make sure you can see all 6 positions (7 markers total) and no other marks.

Go File > Plot… (or Ctrl-P) and check these settings:

Click Full Preview… to check the Plot. Then press Esc to go back to the Plot window.

Click OK to send the plot to Trotec JobControl X. Trotec JobControl X will now startup. Click on its taskbar icon to bring it up.

In the Trotec JobControl X window, from the Jobs menu on the right, drag the Plot job you just made into the honeycomb area, with the mouse cursor near the upper left corner so it all fits.

Click the Eyeball icon in the top toolbar to see the Plot.

Click anywhere in the Plot to select it. In the third toolbar from the top, check that Job position is Center is selected:

In that same toolbar set X= 18.97 and Y=1.59. This will move the drawing so it matches where the necksits in the laser cutter fixture. If you get an error, “No space for job at this position”, hand drag the job closer to the target.

Set these Power and Velocity settings for Black lines:

In the bottom right of the window, press the Connect icon to establish communication with the Speedy 300. This will take about 10 seconds.

Find your instructor or a lab assistant to check your setup before running the laser for the first time.

Once everything is set, press the Start/Play icon to send the job to the Speedy 300!

If you need to stop a job midway, press the Pause or Stop key in JobControl, or the Pause key on the Speedy keypad.

After the laser has finished, remove your neck.

Load the next neck.

You can repeat the same pattern in either of these two ways: o Press the Return Arrow button on the Speedy keypad (easiest way):

Press to repeat job

o In JobControl, press Ctrl-R to reset the Back drawing, then Play as before.

Continue with the youtube video until the next pause screen.

Fret Side Markers The instructions below assume the Fretboard Marker steps above have just been completed. Keep the Fretboard Marker Fixture in place. Place your neck sideways against the fixture, aligning your nut slot with the aluminum plate (left pic). Move the depth probe to the mid-section of the neck (right pic):

Press Control-P (plot) Repeat the steps on the bottom of the last page, with this change:

o In the Job Position toolbar, Set X=20.5 and Y=3.16, to move the drawing so it matches where the neck sits in the fixture.

Set these Power and Velocity settings for Black lines:

Headstock Logo

Place the Headstock Logo Fixture in the laser cutter, aligned against the ruler edges. Place your neck on the fixture, aligning your headstock end over the USD logo lasered into the

fixture. You can ignore the tuner alignment holes if your headstock is short. Press the Arrow Keys ↑↓ to autofocus over your headstock. Repeat the steps as usual, with this change:

o In the Job Position toolbar, Set X=0.81 and Y=1.27, to move the drawing so it matches where the headstock sits in the fixture.

o To get the Logo where you want, either: Fine adjust the X and Y to put the logo where you want Move the Headstock in the fixture

o You can do a “dry run” by setting P (Power) to 0-1: this is not enough power to make a mark.

Cleanup Clean the area of all debris. If needed, use the vacuum on the wall (hose is in the drawer below the

computer.) Turn off all these switches (see 1st page or video for switch locations)

o Trotec Speedy 300 Laser Cutter Power Switch o Exhaust Blower Switch

Leave the computer on.
