ABOUT MOSAIC
President and CEO | Tulsa Regional Chamber “Diversity and inclusion” isn’t always synonymous with “chamber
of commerce,” but I’m proud the Tulsa Regional Chamber champions
that cause. We’ve staked a very aggressive claim on the business case
for inclusivity, and we’ve gained support from northeast Oklahoma’s
business community along the way. In five short years, the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives has recognized Mosaic’s
programming, resources and collateral materials as best-in-class
examples for chamber-led diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Mosaic has truly achieved its vision of catapulting Tulsa to the
forefront of diversity and inclusion leadership.MIK

L MISSION Mosaic will educate, lead, and influence businesses on creating diverse and inclusive workforce cultures to enhance their
competitive advantage.
As the Tulsa Regional Chamber’s diversity business council, Mosaic champions the business case for diversity and inclusion. Mosaic
programming and initiatives encourage organizations to think about
inclusivity not merely as compliance or a “check box,” but as an
opportunity to attract top talent, strengthen their bottom line and invest
in the region’s global competitiveness.
VISION Mosaic will catapult Tulsa into the forefront of diversity
& inclusion leadership.

Executive Director, Mosaic & Workforce | Tulsa Regional ChamberIt’s amazing to realize that in 2016, we celebrate five years since Mosaic’s launch. It was an exciting moment of promise with amazing leadership, a beautiful logo and a clear mission: promote the business case for diversity and inclusion. Who knew
then how far we would come?
In that short time, the vision of our leadership and the work of our volunteers catapulted Mosaic into a premier diversity
and inclusion strategy and initiative. We’ve grown our membership from a dozen corporate representatives to more than
350 companies and individuals covering the full spectrum of visible and invisible diversity. We’ve expanded our activities
from monthly meetings to now include an annual meeting and signature publication, participation in numerous community
and civic events, a regional diversity and inclusion month, peer-to-peer groups, networking and hiring events, lunch and
learns and public forums – all of this with even more to come.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the individuals that gave of their time and talent to chair
Mosaic and our four committees. ‘Thank you’ doesn’t seem to be enough to express my gratitude for your leadership and
commitment to Mosaic’s vision and mission. Our volunteer leaders garnered Mosaic widespread acclaim with recognition
as a national best practice model.
If our volunteer leaders are the drivers, Mosaic’s members – those seated at the table and whose
voices carry our conversations – are the engines that power Mosaic’s work. From their
commitment to fostering more inclusive workplaces to their sponsoring of Mosaic’s
efforts, our members have been tireless advocates for diversity and inclusion. This
membership unites people, organizations and institutions representing a multitude
of ethnicities, causes, faiths and beliefs, all of whom agree that Tulsa should be
inclusive of all and exclusive of none.
I am beyond thrilled with our progress. The journey continues on, and I can only
imagine how future chairs, volunteers and members will engage and build more
inclusive communities in our city, region and state. To all who have traveled with us so
far: thank you for steering Mosaic to greatness.

FOUNDING MOSAIC CHAIR The biggest unknown was when I officially pitched Chamber leadership and the executive committee on the
idea of promoting diversity and inclusion through the lens
of business innovation. I wasn’t sure if the potential of what
Mosaic could become would die right then and there. After the leadership team engaged in authentic discussion and
realized how impactful this initiative could be, they gave me
the green light to proceed in creating the group. That was
probably the most pride I felt along Mosaic’s journey – not
in myself, but in the vision of the leadership to aggressively
move this work forward. It was apparent that they knew
how imperative this mission was to make our region relevant
in the competition for global talent. SHAN

Mosaic’s annual Inclusive Workplace Cultures
survey provides benchmark data for companies and
organizations to gauge their strengths, opportunities
and challenges. For those with exceptional diversity
and inclusion practices, Mosaic awards the Top
Inclusive Workplace Culture recognition. The five key metrics provide a general rubric for scoring survey
responses, with recognition given at the three, four and five star level. Organizations demonstrating commitment to diversity and
inclusion but in need of additional work in certain areas receive
the distinction of Rising Star.
Analyzed collectively, these results also offer insight into trends for the region’s business community. Four years of survey responses show marked improvement in corporate commitments to creating diverse workforces and fostering
inclusive workplaces.
In addition, the 2016 survey gave intentional focus to small businesses and
sole proprietorships. With external consultation, Mosaic developed two
surveys: one to engage with and accommodate the unique position
of organizations with 50 or fewer employees (as aligned with the
Chamber's Small Business Connection membership), and one for organizations with more than 51 employees. Mosaic also added the
Star Ally category to recognize single-employee organizations.

2013-14 MOSAIC CHAIRAs I reflect back over my tenure as chair in 2013 and 2014, I am appreciative of the leadership's strategy session we held in December of 2012 to brainstorm
and plan for 2013 and beyond. At that meeting, the Mosaic leadership team created our mission-centered committees – Membership, Business Services, Communications, and Legislative – which added focus and engagement
among a larger group of Mosaic leaders. We also initiated the plan to launch
Mosaic's Top Inclusive Workplace Cultures Survey, and then recognized
21 deserving companies at the inaugural Economic Inclusion Forum the
following October. The important mission and work of Mosaic deserves to be
a continuing source of pride and accomplishment for all. JIM

Each year’s survey includes a “deeper dive” set of questions that explores one facet of
diversity and inclusion in greater detail. The 2016 survey focused on issues of disability access,
accommodating individuals with physical challenges and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Past deeper dives have included topics related to supplier diversity and sexual orientation.

Senior Manager, Diversity & Inclusion | Southwest Airlines I applaud the great work and thought leadership of Mosaic and its
contributions to the city of Tulsa. Businesses and institutions that both understand the value of diversity and drive more inclusive
environments are well poised to outperform their competition in
the 21st century’s increasingly global marketplace. What Mosaic is
doing for the business community in Tulsa is transformational, and
it is my honor to be associated with such great work.LIJI
