What ELF does

The activities of the ELF can be split into two clear sections:

1. ELF communicates the latest developments in lung health to people with lung conditions, the public, policy makers and the media

2. ELF also gives people with lung diseases and the general public the opportunity to influence lung health research and guidelines at the European level.

The role of the ELF Chair

The ELF Chair is a figure head for the organisation. The Chair acts as the first point of contact for the ELF Director.

The ELF Chair is responsible for representing the voice of patients and the public within ERS. The ELF Chair is a member of:

the ERS Executive Committee the ERS Budget and Finance Committee the Advocacy Council the Environment and Health Committee

The ELF Chair is an observer of:

the ERS Management Group the Tobacco Control Committee

Time commitment of the ELF Chair

The ELF Chair is required to attend all ERS Executive Committee meetings, which are held three times per year. This group of meetings lasts 2-3 days:

o January – Genevao April – Zuricho September – ERS Congress (venue varies)

The ELF Chair is required to attend the ERS Management Group (MG) meetings, which are held in various locations or over the phone 6-12 times per year.

The ELF Chair will be invited to various events and meetings over the course of the year. There will also be a significant amount of email and phone correspondence throughout the

year. There will be a need to find time to meet with other patient organisations to discuss joint

working and collaboration. There will be comment on and approval of articles and publications, approval of a monthly

enewsletter and regular calls to keep in touch with the office.
