RESPECT - LEARNING - MATURITY - ACCEPTANCE
The Exeter Pride
From the
Principal
On Wednesday we hosted our 2018 Grade 7 students for their
orientation day. It was fantastic to see how excited and engaged these students were with the programs they were involved in throughout the
day. That night we held an information evening for the parents of these
current Grade 6 students. I was thrilled at the feedback we received
from many parents about how the perception of our school is so
positive within our local community. One of my main messages from
the night was that we value open lines of communication with all of our
parents and I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that if you
ever have any questions or concerns about your child’s education,
please contact the school so that we can work together to resolve any
issues.
We have also continued to have many of our students participate in
programs outside of the school classrooms in recent weeks. On
Wednesday, seventeen students travelled with Mrs King and Mrs
Finnigan to Devonport where they represented the school with pride.
The standout performance was Catelyn Turner winning the grade
9/10/11/12 girls event and finishing 6th overall (it was combined with
the boys’ Triathlon). Our Grade 10 students have had the opportunity
to go Abseiling at Brady’s Lookout and Rock Climbing at the Gorge in
recent weeks as well and this has been a wonderful, yet challenging
experience. Over eighty of our students also recently competed at the

Northern School’s Athletics Inter-high carnival and once again
as Mrs Robinson often says, “Exeter punched well above their
weight”. This year saw the introduction of a new shield called
The Equity Shield which averages the results of all of the
schools competing and then works out which school was the
most successful school in relation to the number of students
it has. Exeter High School was the inaugural winner of this
shield and is an achievement that we all should be very proud
of.
The final Social was held last night and was well attended
across all Grades. The theme was 80’s night and both
students and staff embraced the opportunity to dress up in
outfits from this era. Once again, the behaviour and
participation in the dancing and activities of our students was amazing.
The current Grade 9 students who wish to represent the
school on the School Leadership Committee in 2018
presented their speeches to the Grade 7-9 students this week
and based on the quality of the speeches, I am confident that
we will have an incredible group of student leaders on this
committee in 2018 who will represent the school and their
fellow students to the highest possible standard.

On Saturday November 25th we attended the Deloraine Show. It was a
wet, foggy start at 6.30am to wash the cattle and try to dry them. It
rained for much of the morning and the team of Jay Walters, Dawson
Connell, Mathew Heslin, Harley Wykes and Rhys Van Den Berg did a
great job keeping our silver cattle looking clean for presentation in the
muddy conditions.
We entered three classes and gained three placings.
1st place in 3 year old Cow with calf – Miss Maree
and Isaac
2nd place in Junior Heifer (age group) – Imogen
2nd place in Pairs – Imogen and Miss Jean
A huge thank you to the Van Den Berg family for
sponsoring us with a shade shelter and chairs. The
support is greatly appreciated.

….Vegies….
Whether you like vegetables or not, now
there is a new incentive to start growing your
own. It is the season to put in pumpkin,
carrots, potatoes, marrow and so much more,
ready to harvest for the Exeter Show on
Saturday 24th February. There are prizes for
the heaviest, biggest or most unusually shaped
vegetable and the good news is, you get to eat
the rest of them! So start planting. You don’t
need a lot of room just a sunny bit of the
garden, a patio or even a polystyrene box, just
remember to water and check that the odd
snail has not taken a fancy to your seedlings.
If growing vegetables really is not your thing
( and anyone can grow them!) then there are
other categories that you can enter – Art,
craft, cooking, flower arrangements and lots
more.
For any further details please contact Hilary
Keeley on 63944725/ 0438944725 or pick up
an entry form from Exeter True Value
Hardware in Exeter closer to the time of the
Show.
