Technology Lesson Plans For Week of May 4th Below you will find some activities designed to improve the computer skills we have been working on over the past couple of months. I have broken these activities up by grade level. Please keep in mind that daily screen time should be limited to as few hours as possible. If students are having trouble with any particular task, I can be reached by emailing me at [email protected] I would prefer to hear from parents/guardians rather than students. If it is something I need to see on their computer screen, please take a screenshot and attach to the email. Technology Lesson PlansFor Week of May 4th

Below you will find some activities designed to improve the computer skills we have been working on over the past couple of months.

Here are 2 ways to take a screenshot on school computers:

Windows key + Print Screen (PrtSc key)To capture your entire screen and automatically save the screenshot, tap the Windows key + Print Screen key. Your screen will briefly go dim to indicate that you've just taken a screenshot, and the screenshot will be saved to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

Windows key + Shift + S (all at the same time)

You can also use keyboard shortcut Windows key + shift-S (or the new Screen snip button in the Action Center) to capture a screenshot with Snip & Sketch. Your screen will dim and you'll see Snip &

Sketch's small menu at the top of your screen that will let you choose what type of screenshot you want to capture.

Computer Activities.

Kindergarten and Grade 1

The following sites are recommended for these students. I have included certain activities that will help reinforce grade level expectations:

www.abcya.com

Some activities on this site hold little educational value. Parents/Guardians should monitor their children’s computer use. I am attaching images of some of the activities that could be helpful for all students.

www.mathplayground.com

This site doesn’t have a Kindergarten section. Some activities on this site hold little educational value. Parents/Guardians should monitor their children’s computer use. I am attaching images of some of the activities that could be helpful for all students.

www.starfall.com

This is great for reading practice as well as letter recognition.

This is really for younger kids to develop mouse skills or trackpad skills.

Grade 2

We have been using www.code.org in school. Students were signing in using a class ID and password. Rather than having them do this,

they can set up their own account using either their email account or a parent/guardian’s account. Directions to set up their own account are at the bottom of this document. Students should work through all of the activities in Course B. Once they have completed these, they can try some of the project activities. All of their progress will be saved as they work through the activities.

Grade 3 through 5

Students have been working on Course C activities. Students were signing in using a class ID and password. Rather than having them do this, they can set up their own account using either their email account or a parent/guardian’s account. Directions to set up their own account are at the bottom of this document. Once they have completed these, they can try some of the project activities. All of their progress will be saved as they work through the activities.

If you have any questions or need help, I will be monitoring my email, daily. Thank you and stay healthy. I will add more activities in the following weeks.

Typing Practice

Below I have added some alternate sites for typing practice. The recommended goals are recommended by the State. Students should be able to type 5 times their grade level. I recommend typing practice of this sort for students in grades 3 and up. There are ergonometric (physically safe) considerations that students should practice when typing.

Also, it is recommended that students spend only about 20 minutes a day practicing. When they do practice, they should position their hands properly for maximum benefit. The following are some recommended sites:
