Home Learning Guidance
Year 5
Week Beginning: 06.07.20
This is a guidance document of suggested activities which could be completed at home to support
home learning whilst your child is not in school.
Please refer to our school website and the curriculum pages for specific information for each subject
on learning outcomes related to age related year group expectations.
The activities are only a guide for home learning and could be adapted or extended.
All children have access to online learning. If you have any questions about log ins, please email the
school.
Reading
Independent reading – All children should read daily at home either independently or with an adult. Hearing a story and the language is extremely beneficial. Reading Plus- All children should read 5 texts from reading plus a week. Purple Mash – Read and complete the activities for ‘Where Sea Eagles Fly’ on Purple Mash. Please read and complete the activities for chapter 6; SPaG, open ended questions and a writing task (write a review of a school assembly). You may wish to try the other activities available and complete one activity a day. Complete the activities in the exercise book you have been given from school. Ensure you write the date each day the work has been completed.
Maths
KIRFS – Refer to, learn practise the Key Instant Recall Facts: number bonds to 50 (extend to 100 if possible). Children to practise times tables daily up to 12x12 Daily Maths work: Complete the daily activities at the bottom of the sheet and use the videos to help with your understanding. Challenges attached to complete with answers. Online Learning: My Maths – Complete set lessons Times Tables Rockstars – Practise daily Maths Shed – Complete number based activities daily.
Writing
Handwriting – Practise your handwriting – Our handwriting guidance on letter formation is available on the website. Writing Challenge: Descriptive writing!
Who do these shoes belong to? Where have they
been? What have they seen? Write about the shoes or the person who wears
them.
Make sure you plan your writing! Use a dictionary and a thesaurus. Can you start by describing their appearance?
Spellings
Pupils can use the time to learn the spellings that are expected for them to know within their Key Stage. Practise spellings in groups of 5 words at time with your child. The End of Key Stage expectations are on the school website.
Science
Our topic next term is: Help our habitats! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcSgaUBwIn4 Watch the video and complete the worksheet! Do your own research if you wish! Can you create a fact file about life cycles?
Topic/Project Mayan achievements- Board Games Watch: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zq6svcw/articles/zbqyy4j (You may need two spread this over 2 weeks) Can you design and make a Mayan board game? Make sure it also has a set of instructions with it. Do not forget to write a rule list too!
