nationally therefore are experiencing busy times. If these are unavailable, try
again at a quieter time such as the afternoons.
Don’t forget there are toolkits on the school website to
support children with spelling

Reading Text Extract taken from The hundred mile an hour dog, master of disguise by Jeremy Strong
1. Rabbits!
Streaker is the speediest dog in the world. She can run faster than a bullet overtaking another bullet. She runs ALL the time, even when she’s sleeping. She lies on my bed at night, snoring, and her whiskers are twitching, her ears are flicking and her legs are going gallopy gallop gallop. Sometimes her legs are running so much she actually moves along the bed and ends up sitting on my head like a gigantic dogshaped hat.
Everyone in my house is pretty sporty. Streaker is always galloping. Mum is always cycling, or running, or swimming, or exercising. As for Dad, he’s always playing golf, but is that a sport? Really? All you do is wander about and hit things from time to time or look for them. Dad spends most of his time hunting for his golf balls. That’s because he keeps hitting them into the trees, ponds and bunkers that cover the golf course.
Or maybe it’s because when Streaker finds them she tries to eat them and then she’s sick. Urrgh. Then WHO gets into trouble? Me. ME! Did I eat Dad’s golf balls? No. Was I sick on the carpet? No. But you see whenever Streaker causes a problem I’m the one that gets the blame because Streaker is MY dog. That’s what Dad says. ‘She’s your dog, Trevor. You clear up the mess.’
‘But Dad, you decided we had to have a dog. You bought her and told us she was the family dog.’
‘Yes, I did, Trevor. You’re quite right. She is the family dog and it’s your family job to look after her. Now go and clear up that dog sick.’
Huh. I can’t win, can I? What’s more I’m supposed to take Streaker for walks. That’s what Dad says. Well, you can’t just WALK Streaker.
Streaker doesn’t WALK anywhere. She runs. She dashes. She whizzes. At full speed. Swoooosh! She’s the fastest dog on the planet. In fact, she’s probably the fastest dog in the universe.

This has to be the most exciting game of football that I have ever seen. David Beckham is easily the best player on the pitch. He has scored 5 goals so far this season. I think he’ll score a lot more.
Tomorrow is an important day for the pop group BoysRUs. They release their third single tomorrow. Their last two singles went straight into the charts at number 1. The new single, however, is an awful mix of pop and rock music. It’s not as good as their previous two hits. It certainly seems to me that BoysRUs should ask for their day jobs back at the toyshop.
Buy the new Superclean bathroom cleaner. It will leave your bathroom sparking clean! Superclean contains a mixture of soap and bleach which removes dirt and kills germs. You won’t believe your eyes when you see what Superclean can do for you. Superclean costs £2.50 a bottle.

Topic Activities Geography Taker a walk around where you live (Melbourn, Meldreth, Royston etc), use the table provided to list down physical and human features that you see. Spanish During the second half of the summer term children in Year 2 would normally receive a few taster Spanish lessons to prepare them for language learning in Year 3. For the next few weeks we will include some activities to introduce children to Spanish. If you don’t know any Spanish perhaps you could learn with them.
PE Use the yoga cards provided to develop your skills. Create a routine and use it as a calm down or ‘chill out’ time.
Computing Log on to purple mash. (if you need your log on details email your class teacher). Find the ‘Stories 2 Tell’ tab, explore different stories and activities based on these stories. RE The Genr8 team have put together some activities based on stories from the bible. These would be used after the assembly they were due to do. http://request.org.uk/jesus/miracles/feeding-of-the-5000/
Outside Have a go at making some stick stars – use string, wool, yarn or fabric to cover them and make a really cool hanging for the garden. Challenge Use empty toilet rolls or kitchen rolls to create a ball throw challenge like shown. Family challenge time – you have 5 throws, who can get the highest score? How can you make it easier or harder?

Español – Años 2 - la semana de quince de junio
It would be very useful if children could learn numbers in Spanish up to ten.
You can hear the numbers pronounced on this YouTube video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWcbJWNfk5I
Use the work sheet below to practise numbers in Spanish. Children can colour in the
numbers and copy the words underneath the printed words in their best hand writing. You
could then display the poster somewhere your child will see regularly to help them to
remember the Spanish.
There are lots of games you can play to help your child remember the numbers.
You could use two dice. Throw one die first and children say the number showing
uppermost in Spanish. Then throw two dice. Children add the two numbers together and
say that number in Spanish. You might need 11= once and 12 = doce, for this.
Think of a number. Your child tries to guess the number. If they need to go higher say
“más” and point upwards. If they need to go lower say “menos” and point downwards.
Now let your child think of a number and you try to guess.
When you see numbers (up to ten) in day to day life ask your child to say them in Spanish.
You might also like these songs to help you with your learning.
