We will continue to use direct speech in some of the tasks this week to ensure children can practise punctuating speech

correctly, using inverted commas (also known as speech marks).

As a reminder, speech should be punctuated: “ Capital letter, what they say, punctuation to finish,“

In addition to direct speech, Monday’s task will use time adverbials, also known as adverbials of time.

A time adverbial is a word or phrase which tells us when the sentence is taking place. For example, it would describe when, for how long or how often the action is.

Children also have the choice of doing these activities or using the Writing Legends website if they wish.
