Congratulations to all on the smooth running of NAPLAN over recent days. Again, I would like to emphasise the need to keep the assessments in perspective. The media has certainly helped to create a level of fear, especially around the future award of a High School Certificate. I want to reassure parents that there will be many pathways over the coming years for students in the junior years to achieve the ‘Band 8’ level required from 2020 for an HSC. As a school, we have and continue to encourage students to strive for high levels of success. We appreciate that many students require some extra individualised support and strategies to achieve the goal in all three areas. Please know that we will continue to work hard to ensure all students continue to acquire the literacy and numeracy skills required for a HSC as they progress beyond the Year 9 NAPLAN. Congratulations to our boys Year 9/10 Touch Team who were undefeated in the Bathurst All Schools Carnival. They now travel to Parramatta later in the year to represent The Western Region in the State Finals. Well done also to our girls Year 9/10s Team also played very well all day but unfortunately, went down to Canobolas High School in the final. Well done also to our Under 14 Years Boys Rugby League Team who defeated Mudgee High 48 – 0 in a very convincing display of their skills. Congratulations also to Kobe Mansell who represented our school and the Western Region at state level in Basketball, carrying the team to victory and placing first in the state. He then went on to be selected in the NSW CHS Team to represent at the national level. Well done to the Orange High School Choir and Mr Irvine who sang beautifully at the Holy Trinity church for the event ‘A Night of Music and Song’ last Friday. The church community were grateful for your wonderful efforts and thoroughly enjoyed your performance.
Students in Years 7 and 8 have completed a BYOD ‘Bootcamp’ Day to further develop their confidence and knowledge of systems with technology. To be authentic, the transition to a BYOD environment while balancing the need to continue to develop core skills such as handwriting is a large and multifaceted change management process. We appreciate the ongoing support of parents as we build this future vision into reality. David Lloyd Principal

Year 10 students have been fortunate to have guest speakers during their Career Connection lessons this Term. Ben Ruddy and his team at Skillset Workforce Orange have been speaking to students about apprenticeships/traineeships, resume writing, interview techniques and some of the attributes and personal qualities prospective employers look for in their employees. This is valuable information that will be helpful when students undertake work experience or look for employment. Orange High School appreciates the input from industry and the experience that Skillset Workforce convey to our students.
On Thursday 4th May, fifty Year 12 students attended
the Facts About Careers and Tertiary Studies (FACTS)
Day held at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst. The day
provided students with the opportunity to make
contact and ask questions (and take showbags) from
over 55 Universities, industry representatives and
private training providers. Students also heard from
Mr Jarryd De Castro who gave insight into his policing
career journey, particularly his involvement as the first
responder to the Lindt Café siege and some helpful tips
for tackling the HSC and life beyond school. The day
concluded with a campus tour with the CSU Future
Moves staff. Thanks to Miss Dray (Year 12 Advisor) for
accompanying the students and myself to Bathurst.
Mr Pearson,
Congratulations Matthew Baines (Year 7) Grace Corby (Year 10) and Olivia Maksymczuk (Year 10).
They will be representing our school by performing with the State Senior Wind Band at the
Opera House on 31 July and 1 August 2017.
Congratulations to the 9/10's boys touch team who
were undefeated in the Bathurst All Schools Carnival.
They now travel to Parramatta later in the year for the
state finals.
Well done to the girls 9/10s team also, who played well
all day but unfortunately went down to
Canobolas High School in the final.
Kobe Mansell travelled to Berkley last
week to represent the Western Region
CHS basketball team. His team proved
strong competitors and came 1st in the
state. Kobe’s talent and efforts didn’t go
unnoticed, as he was selected in the NSW
CHS Basketballl team. Well done!
Well done to Mr Irvine, Mrs Slattery and the Orange High
School Choir.
The choir sang beautifully at Holy Trinity church last Friday for
the event ‘A Night of Music and Song’.
The church community were grateful for their wonderful
efforts and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
OHS Year 12 students enjoyed a great day at CSU
