Group: Serenity Date: 18th May – Week 5 Subject: Art and DesignLearning Outcome: Project Outcome - To understand and explore the 7 elements of art.

• To develop an understanding of colour theory.• To explain different types of colour, using correct terminology.• To be able to correctly create and use a colour wheel

Learning Task: A colour wheel is like a jigsaw puzzle, each piece has a correct place. Once you know the correct places for the pieces you are able to use it in order to support things you do every day. This can include picking the colour of clothes you are going to wear for the day, or decorating your bedroom. In the wider world it could be picking the colours for your company’s logo and making sure people find that appealing. There are lots of different styles of colour wheel but all the pieces are still in the same place, even if rotated:

1. Go on a scavenger hunt around your house and find lots of objects in each of the colours. You

can then make either a found object colour wheel or a found object rainbow:

2. Which colour does red represent, anger or love?

There is no right or wrong answer, as the answer will be different for different people. I think a better more appropriate description of what the colour red represents is passion, as you can be passionately angry and passionately in love. Colour can mean different things to different people so what does each colour mean to you?

3. There are lots of key words (terminology) to know, when learning about colour. Colour Wheel, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Harmonious, Complementary, Tint, Shade, Spectrum, Mix, Blend, Hue, Vibrant. I would like you to create some patterns that show off your knowledge of some of this terms. However, we are going to use a new media, I would like you to take colourful photographs. Taking a photograph will also allow you to develop your composition. Composition - How a picture, sculpture, piece of music, or artwork is arranged. In this case how you arrange the objects with the in photograph (we don’t want to see lots of things in the background). Lots of artist explore colour in their work, some examples of scluture and photography are, Tony Cragg, Emily Blincoe, Barry Rosenthal. If you are stuck for ideas look at the Pinterest board Choice of colour (link below).

Complementary Harmonious Tints and shades (monochromatic)

4. Finally create picture of your choice using colour. This can be done using any media, however

it must show your understanding of colour theory. It may also include the other art elements. There are several examples below to get you inspired and thinking.

A collage is a fun method and can be created using food wrappers, magazine and newspaper pieces. Collage - A picture made by gluing small pieces of paper together on a surface.

Key questions: Today’s art element was colour. What are the primary colours and what is special about them? How do you make secondary Colours? What are harmonious colours and how do you identify them on the colour wheel. What are complementary colours and how do you identify them on the colour wheel? Can you explain what a tertiary colour is?BONUS question – Name the 7 art elements (we’ve only explored 6)
