Breaking the fast These past weeks have been a long stretch, a "fast" that no one expected. And we're pretty hungry: hungry for human contact: to re-connect with family and friends beyond the four walls we've been confined behind. Hungry for peace of mind: to satisfy our fear and anxiety, to know that we and our families are and will be safe, to getting back to "normal"—whatever "normal" will be. Hungry for the little things that bring joy and laughter to our days: eating hot dogs at a ballpark, sitting on the beach with a great book, walking in the woods, meeting friends for drinks at a downtown café, getting a haircut or our hair done. Hungry for a sense of purpose to our days: to go back to work doing something constructive and purposeful, to bring home a paycheck again, to be able to contribute something meaningful to our communities, to care for those who are struggling. Some of us have experienced a hunger that will never be satisfied: losing a loved one to the virus and not being able to say goodbye. And some of us have been hungry for bread itself, struggling to put food on the table each evening, having to do without many of the simple, basic things we depend on. But what we're all starving for is something which "bread" alone cannot satisfy. This Sunday's Solemnity of the Body and Blood of the Lord is especially poignant this spring. We've come to realize a "hunger" in our lives that food and drink cannot come close to satisfying: a hunger to belong, a hunger to matter, a hunger to be at peace, a hunger to love and be loved. If nothing else, these weeks have given us a new appreciation and understanding of the words of Jesus: that the "bread" that truly nourishes is generosity and compassion that mirrors that of God, that the "treasures" of lasting value are the good we can do for those we love, that the Spirit of God lives and moves among us in selfless generosity and sacrificial service.

Dear Friends, We celebrate today the mystery of the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist that unites us as the living Body of Christ. It is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). How so many longed for the Eucharist when the church was not open to the public during the first months of the pandemic. Even now as we start coming back to Holy Mass, we need to remember that "The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life." Our celebration of Holy Mass and reception of Holy Eucharist should change us. It should change our life, giving us the experience of reconciliation with God and neighbor, of healing and new life, of union with God, the saints and our departed loved ones in heavenly peace. As we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, let us "look beyond the bread we eat, see our Savior and our Lord." So many people have been working hard cleaning the church, taking care of our beautiful grounds, working the food panty and working on the renovations in the church. I want to thank all of you for the time, energy and sacrifices you made in helping out around our parish. Thank you.

Fr. Mike

STEWARDSHIP DEACON JOHN'S STEWARDSHIP COLUMN

Over the past several months, one of the most frequent answers that I have received as I asked a question in a casual conversation was, “I don’t know.” Here are a few examples, “When do you think you will get back to work?”… “I don’t know.” “Is your daughter’s wedding day still the same?”… “I don’t know.” “Do you think the Indians will play this season?”… “I don’t know.” When do you think things will get back to normal?”… “I don’t know.” The I don’t knows have placed anxiety, stress and even fear in the hearts of so many people. I believe in the midst of all the “I don’t knows”, we can find peace and stability in the one thing we know absolutely 100% for sure. We know that God’s love for us is unconditional. We know that God’s bountiful mercy is beyond our comprehension. We know that all things are possible with God and we know that God offers eternal life to each of us. May we continue to thank God for all the gifts that he has given to us and respond to these gifts by giving our time, talent and treasure back to Him. God bless, Deacon John

Dear St. Patrick's Parish Family, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for being chosen as one of the recipients of the 2020 St. Patrick Youth Scholarship. I greatly appreciate your generous support of this scholarship fund. I am blessed to be a member of such a loving and supportive community. While growing up, my family and the members of St. Patrick's Church have shown me what stewardship truly means. It has inspired me to not only give of myself through various Church ministries and activities but also to volunteer at school and within my community. I will attend Youngstown State University beginning this summer and will be majoring in biology within the BaccMed program. I plan to pursue an advanced degree in the medical field. Being awarded the St. Patrick Youth Scholarship will help me achieve my career goals and continue my life of stewardship by helping my patients. Thank you once again for this honor. God Bless. Sincerely, Brianna Love
