Anticipating Client Needs

› It’s never too soon to bring in a technology advisor

› Complexity makes it difficult to assess needs, solutions, costs

› The most innovative solutions not found in big box stores or online

› Important for client to know what wish lists costs.

› Most clients have no idea of the cost required for wiring

› If a TV is spec’d into a tight space, we need to make sure it will still be available or purchase it now.

Page 39: Home Technology - What Interior Designers Need To Know - Interior Designers Guild.ppt

Design Tools & Tips - TV

› TVs getting larger while prices fall– 80” Displays – Regularly $3,200– 70” Displays – Consistently under $2,000– 60” Displays - $1,200

› If TV is in tight space make sure there are no protruding logos or accent pieces i.e. Samsung 6400 series

› Lighter weight means that thinner mounts can be used

› Lighter weight means bigger TVs can use full motion mounts to be seen in multiple areas.

› A new 4K TV technology is emerging, but it won’t be cost effective for most consumers for 2-3 years.

› Few electricians can run – none can design. Get help.› Whole house audio can be wireless today› Reliable wireless video still years off.› Phone wiring no longer much of a consideration› Speaker choices have wiring implications

– Sound Bars consolidate connections– In-ceiling / In wall speakers, toughest to wire and install

› You can anticipate the future by running Cat6 (Ethernet) every place there will be devices today and where devices might be added in the future.

A Word About Ceiling Speakers

› Vary in price from $300 to $800+

› Major upgrade in sound quality

› Most expensive to wire and install, approximately $300

› For kitchens and bathrooms most vendors offer duets– Left and right speaker in one enclosure

› If you are doing left, center, right in front of room,– It’s preferred that joists run left to right not front to back
