Resident SpotlightT his month’s highlighted resident is Gertrude (Kades) Caro . Better known as Gert, she was an only child who grew up in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School. She moved to Pond Home in 2007 from Hyde Park, MA where she had lived for many years. She and her husband Werner had many pure breed German Shepards over the years. They took these animals very seriously, selecting them from registered breeders in Germany, but still had fun with their names, one memorable one being Princess Patty. Gert, who loves all animals, also had a cat named Sophie.

Gertrude worked at CIGNA insurance for many years in various clerical capacities. When not working, she and her husband enjoyed riding on any one of the three motorcycles they owned, using their boat at their cottage in Lakeville, or traveling. Their travels included going to Germany to visit family, Maine, New Hampshire, Bermuda, and her favorite – Las Vegas. She loved to cook and really enjoyed preparing meals, especially chicken stew and scrod. She also loved to read, write, and shop-for shoes! In her senior years she remained active in two Boston area senior organizations, Milpar and the Hi-flyers. These groups planned regular outings and activities and Gert was a constant participant. She was Membership Chairperson of the Hi-flyers.

Volunteer Highlight

This month’s highlighted volunteer is Kristen Lorusso. Kristen is a Wrentham resident who first volunteered at Pond Home when she came here with her high school program using our kitchen as a job training site. After completing high school she continued to volunteer here for two mornings a week. After nine years Kristen has decided it is time for a change, taking the skills she has learned at Pond Home to a new place. We have all benefited from Kristen’s bubbly personality and friendly smile. She learned much while at Pond Home, developed meaningful friendships and helped us learn also. We celebrated her

years of service on September 2nd with a party in the living room (and brownies before lunch)! We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

WARNING – THESE WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH OUT LOUD AND OTHERS AROUND YOU WILL QUESTION YOUR SANITY!

They're Back! Those wonderful Church Bulletins! Thanks to the typists who type the announcements. These sentences actually appeared in church bulletins:

1. The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals.

2. The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water.' The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.'

3. Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.

4. Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say 'Hell' to someone who doesn't care much about you.

5. Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help.

6. Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.

7. For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

8. Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

9. Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.

To be continued…
