Living & Giving in Christ Update

Thank you to all who have responded to letters and pleas for the Living & Giving Campaign. Your generosity helps the Church fulfill its pastoral obligations. Each year, OLM is co-responsible for a diocesan-wide goal, and without your contributions, we would have to make up the shortfall using funds from our general revenue. May God reward you and your family for your gifts to our parish! With a grateful and prayerful heart!

Doers of the Word Sunday, January 24 Do you have a vocation?

The Dogmatic Constitution on the Church (Lumen Gentium) from Vatican Council II (1962-1965) talks

about a universal call to holiness and mission, “Accordingly, all Christians, in the condition, duties and

circumstances of their lives and through all these, will grow constantly in holiness if they receive all things

with faith from the hand of the heavenly Father and cooperate with the divine will, making manifest in

their ordinary work the love with which God has loved the world.” This is a profound and revolutionary statement!

If the question was asked previous to the Council, “Do you have a vocation? It meant do you want to be a priest, sister or

brother. Vatican II said everybody, in their own way, hears the call of Jesus to holiness and mission.

Life is not what Macbeth called it, “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Each person is called to

    cooperate with God’s creation.

Spiritual tradition tells us that once the Master said, “There is one thing in this world that must never be forgotten. If you were

to forget everything else, but did not forget that, then there would be no cause to worry; whereas if you performed and

remembered and did not forget every single thing, but forgot that one thing, then you would have done nothing

whatsoever. It is just as if a king had sent you into a country to carry out a specific task; but if you have not performed that

particular task on account of which you had gone to the country, it is as though you have performed nothing at all. So, each

human being has come into this world for a particular task and that is each one’s purpose; if one does not perform it, then that

    one will have done nothing.”

The “one thing” is to participate in and bring about a better world or, in biblical terms, in restoring creation. Since charity

begins at home we might consider starting with our own parish: participating with others to bring about a joyful and dynamic

faith community at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in the Diocesan Vision 2030 Mission.

So, do you have a vocation? Say “yes”!

  • What is “right” and “wrong”? Is there a right and wrong for everyone, all

the time? These are difficult questions to discuss in our culture. We live in a

society that supports the opinion that each person should make up his or

her own morality—that there is no moral truth that applies to everyone.

Many of us have been affected by the relativistic outlook that pervades the

modern world. Maybe some of us are afraid of saying something is immoral

because we're afraid of offending others or of being labeled intolerant. How

do we talk about morality in a relativistic world? In Who Am I To Judge?

With Dr. Edward Sri, we’ll explore morality and find that it’s not merely a set

of guiding principles for theoretical situations—it is an entire way of life.

Join us for this eight-part study in discovering how to remain faithful in a relativistic world. Classes will begin on Tuesday,

January 26th. Sessions will be offered on:

    Tuesday mornings at 10am Mountain (Zoom only) Jan 26, Feb 2, 9, 16, 23, Mar 2, 9, 16

    Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm Mountain (in-person and Zoom) Jan 27, Feb 3, 10, 17, 24, Mar 3, 10, 17

    Sunday mornings at 9am (in-person and Zoom) Jan 31, Feb 7, 14, 21, 28, Mar 7, 14, 21

The studies will be facilitated by Deacon Richard and Deacon Doug. Contact Deacon Richard [email protected]

or Deacon Doug [email protected] to register or for questions.

Pope Francis declares the “Year of Saint Joseph” (Dec 8th, 2020-Dec 8th, 2021) To mark the 150th anniversary of the declaration naming St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, Pope Francis has declared this year to be the Year of St. Joseph. Let us humbly pray that we may be blessed with St. Joseph’s “creative courage” as we continue to struggle through these difficult times and help us to trust in the divine providence of God.
