The cheerleaders amazed us. With moves we’ve never seen before and two whole rounds of it, we jumped off with a blast at the rally. They impressed us, “wow”ed us, and put us in the perfect mind set for what was to come. If you came in at 7:50, you encountered a problem, par-ents seating in the sections dedicated for students, creat-ing a cluster of kids among the floor. The gym was packed, with anticipation and excitement for the skits that the kids have been working on for weeks. And after intro-
ducing the judges and a dance routine from the dance club, the skits began. Freshman started us off with taking us back to the good days, bringing us under the disco ball. With it being their first year at Dublin high, they did a fantastic job incorporat-ing all the classes, themes, and making it understand-able. While the freshman did great, the sophomores blew it out of the water and under the sun. With attack from cou-gars, they went to find our
lead quarterback through all the beaches, freak shows, and lagoon monsters. Doing a great job tying the themes together as well, Jun-iors took a different approach by taking students with no school spirit, sending them under the big top, and let the fend for our school. With three different rings to venture through, we out flipped, out freaked, and tamed the beasts of the circus, all while learning how our school actu-ally rocked. During each break, they
voted homecoming prin-cesses and princes, as well as the king. We had games during the breaks, such as sumo-pillow, using nothing but your newly found belly, a pillow inside your shirt. And apparently for Colin Hartland, the match meant taking a couple elbows to the face while defending his class. After announcing Mitchell Rankin as homecoming king, the senior skit was ready to begin. We see Ashley Mason dealing with what every sen-ior has to go through, college applications, frustrated par-ents, and lost items under the bed. Going through a flashback of her childhood years with each memory shoved under the bed, the seniors amazed us all with hilarious acting and large synchronized dance numbers. Although we all favor a class, giving props to some and negatives to other, of course, the judges always have the final say. In the end, the judges gave the Seniors first place, the Sophomores second, the Juniors third, and fourth to the Freshmen. Eve-ryone did an amazing job at the rally; the amount of spirit and pumped energy in the skits and activities showed exactly what Dublin High is all about.

Mr. Dublin is a contest that happens every winter where high school senior boys pa-rade around on stage as if they are in a beauty pageant. There are skits, dancing, and most often comedy that one can’t help but laugh at, to showcase their talents. But are all of these necessary? Why I ask is don’t we all know who the true Mr.Dublin is? He plays many roles in our fine
Leadership teacher, football announcer, and he is most popularly known as the mayor of our town. The true Mr. Dublin is our very own multi-talented, Mr. Tim Sbranti. Mr.Sbranti, has been a Dublin resident since 1978 and eventually graduated from Dublin High in the class of 1993, after spending time working for the City of Dublin

Parks and Community Serv- -ices commission as well as being student body president. He grew up in an “old-fashioned Italian family” where everyone is close together. In fact, his family is the reason that we have Mr.Sbranti teaching at our school today. Mr. Sbranti attended col-lege at Sacramento State where he spent time writing for the school newspaper and covering the school baseball games. He was considering both a career in politics and in journalism until he came to realize that both of those jobs would take him away from the family that he is very close with. He decided to try for a career in teaching after intern-ing for a year with the mayor of Sacramento and often working with high school stu-dents. He returned to Dublin to teach, and has now been teaching here for 13 years. Now back in Dublin he taught, as well as coached many sports teams such as tennis and basketball. In 2008, Mr. Sbranti was elected mayor with 85% of the vote after serving on… Continuation pg. 7

But seniors ran into trouble during the three legged race when a discrepancy occurred that juniors Lacey Platter and Jaime LeQuin supposedly won the race! A tiebreaker was called between the jun-iors and seniors. Yet again the seniors won the competi-tion after the juniors tripped and fell behind. With 2 out of 3 contests won by the seniors, the tables turned during the whipped cream pie contest. them. Volunteers from each class Had to stick their faces in pie

Lunch time is no longer just for stuffing your face with the sandwich your mom packed you, lunch time has been rede-fined. From musical chairs to a three legged race, the heat was on as each class went head to head competing for first place. Crowds gathered in the com-mons last Tuesday as the first lunch activity took place. 2 sen-iors, 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshmen were picked to play musical chairs. After an intense sequence of music and running in circles, the seniors came out on top.

Homecoming 5K Fun Run By Kaila Stephens Dublin High School’s first annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run was a great way to start off Homecoming week. The Fun Run was on Sunday, October 10th at 9AM. The course began on the track and circled around the Iron Horse Trail. Dublin High alumni, Juan Gomez, took first overall in the 5K race with a jaw-dropping time of 16:09. Gomez was fol-lowed by Joshua Grigonis (19:14), DHS senior Robert Martinez (19:22), Byron Fiscus (19:29), and DHS sophomore Paulo Nacionales (20:16). The first fe-male to place, Sarah Soares, finished the race with a time of 20:39. After winning first in his division and fifth place overall, Paulo Nacionales said, “The Homecoming run was pretty fun. I enjoyed competing in the 5K with others and I’m actually looking forward to next year’s.” The Fun Run had a little bit for every-one. All runners received souvenir t-shirts and goody bags, prize drawings for runners happened after the race, and lively music and friendly booths helped make the event even more cheerful. But the morning wasn’t over until the K-5th grade mini-miler run took place around the football field. All participants of the Fun Run directly benefited the Dublin High School Athlet-ics department, which has been threat-ened by the California budget crisis. Of course, the race wouldn’t have been made possible without the help of Dublin High’s Cross Country team, Coach Chris
A Night to Remember By Selina Johnson
Homecoming was a night nobody will forget, especially the seniors. Senior Hailee Buchanan said, “I had a lot of fun! I danced the whole night, but it was sad it was the last one.” Finally around 10:40 p.m., they played the last song. The ladies grabbed their dates and slow danced. Unfortunately, it was time to leave. We said our goodbyes to our friends and left. For the most part, it looked like every Dublin High student enjoyed themselves that night. On behalf of the Dublin High School students we’d like to say thank you to the DJ, chaperons, and administration for making this an unforgettable night.
Waking up early, doing our hair, brushing our teeth, and getting dressed. That's what everyone did on the day of October 16th, which was our very own Dublin High School’s Homecoming dance. After taking a million pictures with friends, students arrived at the dance around 7:45 p.m. to stand in line to enter the dance. When students walked in the gym they saw everything from flashing lights, to a DJ, to students on the dance floor everywhere you looked. They played a variety of music, from techno to pop to rap such as “Club Love” by the Cataracts, “Yeah” by Usher, and “Tie Me Down” by the New Boyz. Everyone danced the night away and Junior Lacey Platter ad-mits,”The dance flew by so quickly!”
Williams, all volunteers and participants, Mayor Sbranti, and the many sponsors of the event. Not only did the Fun Run help Dublin High’s sports, but it also contributed to Homecoming class points, which was led by the sophomores. With such a great turn out and a success-ful kick-off to Homecoming week, everyone is already counting down the days for next year’s second annual Homecoming 5K Fun Run.

Following the amazing pa-rade, the Homecoming Carni-val took place on Friday, the 15th by the baseball fields. There were booths, inflat-ables, and many other activi-ties that kept everyone of all ages entertained. Everyone from infants to senior citizens were able to enjoy the fun and exciting experience that the carnival had to offer. The talent featured Krack-ers the Clown who blew up balloon animals and balloon hats for kids to carry and wear around. For a good laugh, some students from the Improv Team performed an act that involved the crowd. The acts that followed included our very own student singers and bands that pro-vided everyone with an envi-ronment of enjoyable music.
Campolindo had the final pos-session when Marco Tevec-chio kicked a 40 yard field goal that ended the 1st half, 17-14 Cougars. During the first two quarters the Gaels were able to stay fairly close to the Cou-gars. The Gaels were determined to gain the lead in the second half of the game and played hard. Starting the 3rd quarter, the Cougars held the Gaels at answered with Baker running a 37 yard kickoff return. Unfortu-nately, the Cougars gained the lead and continued to lead the rest of the way. Our men played hard, and just a few strokes of bad luck led to the loss. The Dublin Gaels are now 1-1 in league.
Despite an amazing come-back, The Gaels were unable to pull out a victory during Friday night’s homecoming game, and the final score was 17-31. Campolindo received the opening kickoff, and was able to get a touchdown in the first half, while playing defense on the Gaels. In the second quarter, senior Jaylen Paulding was successful in capping a 6 yard touchdown, and score Dublin’s first points. On another play, junior Ed Achziger tossed the football to sophomore Ondre Rudolph who was able to go 31 yards for the touchdown. This tied the game 14-14 with 50 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.
A few of the fun-filled inflat-ables included activities such as laser tag, an electric bull, rock-climbing, a gigantic slide, bungee-jumping, jumpy houses, and obstacle courses. A little kid (unknown if the child was a boy or girl) fell off the bungee-jump and got stepped on by someone else. Even though it was very scary, the firefighters came quickly to rescue. The child was taken to safety and eve-rything turned out okay. Many booths were ran by various clubs around campus who sold tasty food as well as hosting carnival games that contributed to the numerous activities. The Bike Club sold Mr. Taylor’s famous peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, which were a huge success. The DHS Carnival was an amazing success that contrib-uted to the excitement of an unforgettable homecoming week!

6 The Dublin Shield Homecoming Edition
On Thursday October 14th at 6pm Dublin High School cele-brated our new state-of-the-art gym’s ribbon cutting! The girls varsity basketball broke in the new gym floor perform-ing their warm-ups. Our new gym is located right next to our amazing football stadium. It seats 1800 people and even has designated seating for our Irish Guard band. We even have a mag-nificent training room for our athletes with a whirlpool. There are blue and red locker rooms that are extremely spa-cious.
Staff, students, and school board shared their thoughts about what the new gym meant to them. Our ASB president Senior Ben Young told the crowd “It’s [gives us] peace of mind for us to have this amazing place for our athletes”. “Our gym is such an amaz-ing honor. Not just for us here at Dublin high but for our en-tire community” Mr. Sbranti stated. Our staff and construction workers put so much effort into this wonderful brand new gym for us and it will be a great opportunity for us to
the Dublin City Council since 2002. In his continued term as mayor he has built many new parks and has really come to beautify Dublin with the crea-tion of Fallon Sports park, the rebuilding of the Shannon Cen-ter, and much more. Mr.Sbranti still leads the life he dreamed of when he an-nounces the football games for our very own Dublin Gaels. He has also been known to return to his Alma mater, Sacramento State, to write the press re-lease for the football games. Mr. Sbranti continues to lead the life of a politician as a mayor that “give[s] back to the community” with all of his ac-tions as mayor. Finally, he works as the leadership teacher and is a key man in the running of our school and its many activities. Simply said, our school and city would not be what it is today without the leadership of Mr. Sbranti.

Know Your Ranking! By Autumn Claw
This year’s homecoming coming results were intense! On Sunday, October 10th, was the first annual Homecoming Fun Run. We had the Sophomores come in first fol-lowed by the Juniors, Seniors, and then the Freshman. Throughout homecoming week we had Dress-Up/Lunchtime competitions. Overall, the Seniors came in first place followed by the Juniors, the new incoming Freshman in third, and the Sophomores in fourth throughout the week, except for Thursday when the Sophomores finished ahead of the Freshman.

On Thursday, October 14th, we had the Homecoming Rally where each class per-formed a skit. Although the Freshman had a great skit performance, they still came in fourth .The Seniors showed how things were done and finished in first place fol-lowed by the Sophomores in second, and the Juniors in third. Each class decorated their Homecoming float and area. The Seniors still came in first followed by the juniors.

The noon after…that’s when it all hits you. That project that you didn’t fin-ish is sitting in pieces on your desk, the homework you never started is a blank page on your math book, the tracks of your disappointed tears are fresh on your face, you have twenty-two text mes-sages from that freshman you mistakenly danced with, and you find your wallet holding nothing more than a penny and half a stick of gum. How might you recover from this post-homecoming blunder?
Problem: You’re failing
all of your classes.
Solution: As ridiculous as it sounds, you should
buckle down and do your
work. In the hype of home-
coming we push aside all
class-related work and get
swept away in the wave of
school spirit, so especially
for seniors it is necessary
to stop daydreaming in
class and blowing off
homework. If worse comes
to worst, Senior, Austin
Ginn says the solution to
this dilemma is “Two
words: Gift Baskets.”
Problem: You’ve ruined friendships.
Solution: Talk things out. It is always better to
be kind than to be right.
Little tiffs about who
danced with whom, or who
couldn’t come to your pre
or post homecoming party
are really not worth the
loss of friendship, so be
the bigger person and
make things right.
Problem: You have zero dollars.
Solution: In this situa-tion you are presented with
many options
1. Learn to play an in-
strument and beg for
change from passersby.
2. Sell your sibling’s
things on e-Bay.
3. Get a job.
Take your pick.
Problem: You haven’t slept at all.
Solution: As tempting
as it is, in line with our
first problem of failing all
classes, do not go to
sleep during class. Make
a conscious effort to use
time wisely and get to bed
earlier. An hour of extra
sleep makes a huge differ-
ence, and yes, it’s worth
the TV shows you will be
missing.
CAPRICORN:
December 21st - January
20th
For sometime you have had
your doubts, or may have
lacked the kind of burning
ambition you once had, it's
beginning to come back now.
You will soon be presented
with an opportunity. Jupiter
going directly into your money
house, signals a time when
the cash begins to flow again.
Romantically, you could fall
for a peer or professional
contact!
AQUARIUS:
January 20th - February 19th
Because your sign has 2 rul-
ers, things may have been
dicey last month when these
2 planets faced off at the time
of the new Moon. It could
have been hard to make deci-
sions or move forward since
on one hand you felt insecure
or held back. Things will be
easing up and your path will
become more clear over the
next few weeks. Romanti-
cally, this is a time when you
could find a dynamic new
mate!
March 20th - April 20th
PISCES:
February 19th - March 20th
You have a couple of good
things coming this month.
You will feel more robust and
ambitious than you have for
some time. This could be a time
when you decide to coach
someone. If single - you could
form a very intense relationship
with someone new!
ARIES:
March 20th - April 20th
Relationships could be chal-
lenging early this month. You'll
find it difficult to compromise, as
you'll be more focused on your
own needs instead. Though the
tendency to act foolish or selfish
is strong, you must attempt to
marshal yourself and your en-
ergy. Just before October 18th,
your confidence is restored.
This diminishes self doubt, so
get back on track and inspire
others!
TAURUS:
April 20th - May 21st
The combination of a full Moon
in your 12th house could erode
your confidence or cause trou-
ble with coworkers. Another
downer is that you may become
doubtful about who to trust.
While things feel iffy and you
wonder who's on your side, it's
best to wait till the new Moon
before you decide. Also if you
do decide some of your past
connections aren't worth it, you
will soon replace them with
more rewarding relationships.
you will share with others
soon. Romantically, you de-
sire someone who is stimulat-
ing, that you can talk to. Since
Venus is in Libra in your 3rd
house, they could also be an
artist!
VIRGO:
August 23rd - September
22nd
The new Moon in your house
of credit wants to spend,
spend, splurge - on the things
that could make your life
more comfortable. Yet, ruler
Mercury seems to hold you
back. Better to wait till mid
month when the new Moon
offers you a bargain! Roman-
tically, with Venus in Libra
you have a strong need for a
harmonious relationship.
LIBRA:
September 23rd - October
23rd
Early on this month, you may
feel the need to isolate. Yet
by mid month, ruler Venus
enters your first house, indi-
cating some form of a 'come
back'. Because you feel more
in charge of your life, others
begin to trust you more. Ro-
mantically, your sign makes it
easy to find a perfect mate. If
you're already taken (as most
Libras are), you can expect
good times with your loved
one!
SCORPIO:
October 23rd - November
22nd
You may have noticed your
power diminished as a result.
However, by mid month sud-
denly you'll feel more confi-
dent and capable. You might
receive a promotion or simply
be willing to take more on. If
you're currently unemployed
this is a sign that you could
land a new job. This could
bring a new love interest. Still,
you may have to keep a new
relationship a secret for some
time.
SAGITTARIUS:
November 22nd - December
21st
This month you may have
experienced an inner crisis, or
even an illness during this
time. But things change and
you are more clear about your
goals and ready to move for-
ward with new plans and en-
terprises. This a good month
to meet new friends or even
fall in love. You're most at-
tracted to refined, spiritual or
artsy types now
GEMINI:
May 21st - June 21st
The full Moon in your house
of friendship promises some
stress. You have so much to
do and so little time to attend
exciting group activities! But
it's best that you spend time
organizing your personal life
instead of socializing. By mid
month, you'll have time to
socialize, perhaps even fall in
love? This is a perfect time to
plan a trip or begin studying a
subject that is mind expand-
ing.
CANCER:
June 21st - July 22nd
You could feel a bit cranky
this month with Mars in your
sign. You might experience a
bit of a crisis between the
demands of your professional
and personal life. So much to
do., yet so little time for me.
Yet by mid-month, at the time
of the new Moon, you'd be
100% in alignment to invite
loved ones home or have a
family get together! This is
also a perfect time to redeco-
rate or even move.
LEO:
July 22nd - August 23rd
You'll feel totally energized
once Mars enters your sign.
Yet, during the first part of this
month, you will be gathering
resource and wisdom which
