GOALS

To improve speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through the expansion of vocabulary and grammar, and practice; and to continue to learn about Spanish/Hispanic customs and traditions.

TOPICSSocial customs and geography of Spain and Latin America, Frida Kahlo, and Hispanics in the U.S.

CODE OF CONDUCT (“THE 3 P’S”)

BE:

· polite - listen to others, use appropriate language (no put downs or curse words), raise your hand to speak unless otherwise instructed, stay in your seat during instruction, respect school and personal property

· prepared – bring your packet, binder/folder, pens/pencils, completed homework, Chromebook etc.

· prompt - be in your seat working on the do now when the bell rings

PLAGIARISMPlagiarism is using someone else's words or ideas and presenting them as your own. You will receive a 0% for plagiarism. This includes:· Writing an assignment in English and translating any part of it with an online translator, or

with someone’s help! (You may use a dictionary to look up a word.) · Copying from the internet to do an assignment· Copying from someone else’s paper, from a cheat sheet, or from an electronic device such

as a cellphone during a quiz, test, composition etc.

ATTENDANCE/ABSENCE POLICYYou are responsible for making up homework, class work, quizzes, tests etc. assigned during your absence. You will have 2 days to make up this work. NO WORK OR TESTS MAY BE MADE UP IF THE ABSENCE IS A CUT. YOU WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF ZERO ON THESE ASSIGNMENTS.

HOMEWORK POLICYDaily homework is due in class before it is reviewed unless you are legally absent. If you are assigned a composition, project etc. it will count as a quiz or a test and you will lose 10 points per day if it is turned in late.

RETAKESOne retake per quarter will be allowed for any quiz and must be taken within a week of getting the quiz back. The 2nd grade will substitute the first.

ITEMS NEEDED FOR CLASS

· A loose-leaf binder or folder for keeping notes and papers for the current marking period. Please don’t bring a spiral notebook! You will be receiving many packets and hand-outs which you will need to put into your binder or folder.

· A few additional folders to keep papers at home once you no longer need them in class· Pens and/or pencils· Your Chromebook· ¡Una s☺nrisa y las ganas de aprender!

GRADINGFor 1 st , 3 rd and 4 th quarters :

80% - for quizzes, tests, projects, compositions, etc.

10% - for homework

10% - for participation (8.5% - see attached rubric) and do now (1.5% - based on number of do nows done)

For 2 nd quarter :

Midterm counts as 20% of the 2nd quarter grade, other categories count 80% instead of 100%.

For yearly average:

1st quarter times 21% = _____
