Homework Projects
Year 8
Homework Overview
Greenacre Academy intend homework to be diverse in nature, focusing on more project based work which will
be on-going over a number of weeks. This booklet includes homework from each subject that your son / ward studies at
school.
Our Expectations
Students must complete and submit homework pieces from each project as their teacher directs (see attached table). Teach-
ers will inform students when each piece of homework is due in and this will be recorded in Homework Diaries.
Please also note that some tasks in the booklet are subject to change, and will be done so at the discretion of the teacher.
This would occur on occasions where a different task may be more beneficial to your son / ward’s learning. Your support
with checking homework diaries and signing each week is very much appreciated.
Reading Homework
Students should read for at least 30 minutes each night. Reading frequently will help students to develop their
vocabulary and literacy skills.
Students can select one reading option per week from the reading lists provided in the project and complete
their reading log, located in their homework diaries. Form tutors will check the reading log has been completed each
week when signing diaries.
Stretch and Challenge
Students will be encouraged to push themselves, completing more tasks where they see fit. If they have a particu-
lar interest or gift in a given area they should be encouraged to complete the Stretch and Challenge task.
Skills for Life
As part of the Academy’s implementation of ‘Skills for Life’, each subject area has carefully thought about activities and tasks
to integrate particular skills into their schemes of work. To help promote this, the completion of the homework tasks will help
your son / ward develop these certain skills.
The Skills for life focus is EMPLOY ME:
Excellence
Manners
Perseverance
Listening
Organisation
You
Motivation
Employability
Homework Club
If your son/ward needs help with homework we run a homework club every weekday from 2.50-3.50 in
room 9.
Queries?
If parents / carers have any queries with the homework projects please get in touch using the emails provided
within the projects. Thank you for your continued support of Homework.

Year 8
Excellence-
Striving to be excellent in all we do
It involves trying to put quality into everything you do, and this attitude tends to separate the achievers, who make rapid strides in their career from others
Giving 100% to every task/piece of work
Manners-
•Good Manners refers to the polite and good social behaviour and play a significant role in building relationships.
•Even big international dealings are based on good manners. Good manners cost nothing. It is the mark of nation’s character
Perseverance-
•Perseverance is the ability and drive to start and continue steadfastly on the path towards any goal you set.
•Nothing fundamentally good comes without hard work and determination
Frequently this factor alone is the difference between failure and success.
Listening -
•Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages
•Listening is key to all effective communication, without the ability to listen effectively, messages are easily misunderstood and things go wrong!
Organised-
•Being disorganised will have a negative effect on your school life and productivity
•Employees with this skill are more productive on the job, make better impressions on bosses and receive more promotions than those who keep sloppy, inefficient work habits.
•Being more organised means being more time efficient.
You-
•Your education
•Your future
•Your employability
•Your grit and determination to succeed
•Your communication skills – verbal and non verbal
•Your ambition
Motivation-
•Focus on your end goal – make it happen…take the help, learn from everything you do – create your own success.
Employability-
•The British Chambers of Commerce said that many employers had been left “disheartened and downright frustrated” by poor levels of literacy, numeracy, communication and timekeeping among school leavers and graduates.
•Greenacre Academy students WILL leave us with these soft skills!
