Video Games – Create a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the differences

between video games in the 1980s to games people play in

2015.

Plan a birthday party with the theme of your decade, e.g., an 1980s party.

! What food/drinks would you serve?

! What decorations could you put up?

! What music would you play? ! What games would you play? ! What are some costume ideas for

your guests?

What happened the day your mum/dad was born? Record an interesting event/s on either the day they were born or the year. Dress up in clothes related to a

specific decade and take a photo. Put your photo into an

app / poster and add a descriptive title. You might need to do some research to find out what they used to wear in that

decade!.

Write an ad for our new school inviting children to be a part of

our wonderful learning community.

How many words can you make from: THROUGH THE DECADES?

The words must be 3 letters or more, and no plurals.

Do a little baking and practise measuring… record and present

your creation using photos or video.

Research a mini topic, e.g., lollies, computer games,

sneakers… how have they changed over the last 50

years? Create a timeline to show their development.

Ask your parent/s or grandparent/s to share photos from when they were a

younger and discuss the clothing, how the photo was taken, where were they,

what do they remember about that day?

Create a word find (minimum 20 words) of things that were

popular in the 1980s. Remember to spell correctly.

Create some Pop Art (Andy Warhol), use the function on

Photo Booth, or be even more arty and use paint.

Use your imagination and write down 10 questions you could ask of a famous

actor or musician of the decade you are studying.

Watch a classic 1980s children’s movie and review it, e.g., E.T., The Princess Bride, Flight of the Navigator, The Neverending

Story, The Little Mermaid, The Fox and the Hound.

Find a collectable in your house or your grandparents…

take a photo and tell it’s story… who owns it? How did

they get it? Why do they keep it? Is it worth anything?

Cars! They’ve changed a lot over the years. Choose a car from a decade,

draw it and research and write 5 facts about it.

Write down your family members’ names then write

down all the small words from each name. e.g. Yolande – an,

and, land

chocolate bars demonstrate your knowledge of fractions.

Music Videos – MTV was first aired in the 1980s and transformed music. Select 5

music videos that were iconic, trendsetting or that you just like. You

need to say why. Create a Keynote with picture hyperlinks to the video clip.

Explain why you have chosen it.

Imagine what The Gardens area would’ve been like before

houses were built. Close your eyes and imagine you’re in

Totara Park. Even better, go for a visit with a pen and paper and

write a “Moment in Time” with 4-8 lines beginning with; I saw, I

feel, I hear, I wonder.

Write a poem about school life from a chosen decade.

Create a ‘then and now’ chart to show how 4 household items have changed

through the decades.
