Honeysuckle! What It Is?

Honeysuckle is a plant, A BIG plant! It is inva-

sive which means it is a problem to the eco-

Where It Lives? Honeysuckle is in the United states but here are some

places were you would not expect it to be… Honey-

suckle can live in China, Japan, and Korea.

ests they are also along the

edge of wood lots, flood plains,

and high ways. Very surpris-

ing!!!!

Why They Are Invasive?

Honeysuckle can grow up to 20 feet tall, that is really

long. Plus it can grow really fast. It can grow so fast that

it crowds the native plants which causes the native

plants not to grow as easy. There are spring flowers

that have red fruit that attract to over 20 species of

birds and if the Honeysuckle crowds the flowers then

that means that there is no more fruit, then there is no

more birds.

Fun Facts Don’t let honeysuckle fool you by the sweetness of the

smell like a rose or a daisy. Unlike those, honeysuckle is

dangerous. Honeysuckle in the wrong place is really bad

because it will make the ecosystem change. You can find

People from Kane county forest preserve burn and kill all the invasive spe-

cies all over the forest. The native plants can not be killed by fire, only the

invasive ones. They also pull the plants out of the ground. That is one way

to get rid of invasive plants. Invasive animals such as pythons and giant

goldfish can just be captured and put back were there natural habitats are,

but it is even harder that way.

there is so many invasive species in the world you need to care but
