Qualification Programme Case Analysis Competition 2003

Case problem in brief

Alan, a newly qualified certified public accountant, works as an audit manager in a CPA firm. During the audit of CEGroup, one of his firm's larger clients, Alan discovered that the management of CE had not complied with certain laws.Through his discussions with CE's operations staff, there were suggestions that CE might have employed illegal workers. Moreover, he suspected that CE could have bribed staff of its customers based on some unexplained payments inCE's records. Alan's university roommate, David, who is now working as an assistant investigator in the ICAC, calledAlan and requested for information about CE.

If you were Alan, how would you tackle these ethical issues?
