Gary Koffsky was born and raised in West Islip. He graduated from West Islip High School in 1980. For the past 17 years, Gary has served as the president of the West Islip Soccer Club. Under his leadership the club started a scholarship program for college bound students and a special children’s soccer program, the High Flyers. One of the largest on Long Island the club became one of the first local soccer clubs to provide an AED program at their fields.
Whether donating bleachers, building bathrooms and a concession stand or seeking funding for a lighted soccer field, the West Islip Soccer Club is grateful for Gary’s relentless dedication and hard work to benefit the community’s children.
In addition, Gary has supported many community organizations such as the Good Shepherd Hospice, Collette Coyne Melanoma Awareness, SEPTA, Paws, the Lionheart Foundation, Our Lady of Lourdes Food Pantry and the Elizabeth T. McNamee Fund. Gary & his wife, Lisa, have five children Megan, Amy, Zachary, Victoria and Sarah. He is a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America and has earned an MBA from Baruch College. Having worked in law enforce-ment for 25 years Gary is currently a Nassau County Police Detective.
Carissa Mitchell was born and raised in West Islip. She graduated from West Islip High School in 2003. After graduation, Carissa attended Pace University where she received a B.B.A. with concentration in Marketing & Advertising. Upon completing her education, she followed her dreams in becoming an event planner. She currently works for Nikon Inc., as the Operations Specialist for Nikon School, aphotography education program.
Carissa contributes to the local community and supports many worthy endeavors and charitable causes on Long Island. She helps raise awareness and funds for several not-for-profit organizations such as the Elizabeth T. McNamee Fund, Tri-ing For Kids!, Sunrise Day Camp, Strength for Life, and The Long Island 2-Day Breast Cancer Walk. Carissa and her husband, Kevin are expecting their first child this summer and reside in West Islip.

WHO IS ELIZABETH?Elizabeth was a bright student with a wonderful future. She excelled in whatever she set out to do. Her love for people, athletics, and the arts were among her greatest attributes. She attended West Islip Schools, graduated Harvard University with honors and was in her final year at NYU Law School when, in September 1998 HCM took her life.
Sue & Chris Stavrakos are long time residents of West Islip and valued members of the community for over 30 years. Sue & Chris met at CW Post College and subsequently married. They have two wonderful children Carissa and Michael. Both have been committee members of the Elizabeth T. McNamee Fund since its inception.
Sue is not only a graduate of West Islip High School but also a highly regarded teacher of the District. She has taught special education and 1st grade for more than 20 years. She is a former twirling teacher in the community and had the pleasure of being Elizabeth’s twirling coach from the time she was 6 years old until she graduated high school.
Chris bas been involved in various community organizations including the West Islip Soccer Club, West Islip Little League, Elizbeth McNamee Fund as well as other Long Island business organizations. Chris has been in the banking industry for over 35 years having held senior positions with several large institutions.
Sue & Chris are honored to have such a close relationship with the McNamee family and look forward to celebrating Elizabeth’smemory through this special gala.

WHAT IS HCM and THE ELIZABETH T. MCNAMEE MEMORIAL FUND?
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), is a heart disorder which is rarely detected early and is the most common cause of disease-related sudden death among America’s youth. The fund was established to raise funds for awareness and education to our public and healthcare professionals and to provide support services to those affected by HCM and their families. This fund has also supported scholarship programs, community projects, childhood disease foundations and pediatric care facilities.
