2017 Term 1 School resumes for ALL students on
Tuesday 31st January
KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3
Our School Captains Remi & Xavier held a Remembrance Day Ceremony at school on Friday 11th November. They
explained the significance of the day, the meaning of the poppy, read the Ode and played the Last Post. We sang the National Anthem & then they laid a wreath at the base of the flagpole. The level of maturity and leadership skills that Remi & Xavier demonstrated were outstanding and a credit to them. Well done!
It was extremely disappointing to have to cancel our 4th bi-annual Kialla Central Primary School Ball due to lack of support. Only 11 families out of our 44 families showed interest. All of our staff were either attending this event with friends or had still purchased tickets despite not being able to attend. We now rely on selling raffle tickets to raise our fundraising target for this year. Fortunately, the donations we have received for the Ball can be used for our major raffle which will be drawn at our end of year concert & presentations on Tuesday 13th December. The tickets that have already been sold will be included in this raffle. Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 tickets for $5.00 or a book of 15 tickets for $25.00. I will send home another raffle book & flyer with the prizes available as well as the businesses & individuals who are supporting our school. I encourage you to support our generous sponsors.
Our School Council met last night and we discussed the following items.
Oval works ~ Yesterday our oval was scarified & new sprigs planted. This will give us lush grass on our oval. Unfortunately, this now means our oval is out of action until probably the start of February to give the sprigs a chance to grow. I have put up signs to try and keep people off our oval outside of our school hours. Thanks to Andy Ryan for organising these works for our school.
Shade Structure ~ at last we are moving ahead in getting our shade structure. School Council has decided to put the
shade structure over the basketball court for 2 reasons: the first is that we can afford a project of this size and secondly, it will get maximum use. We envisage this project to take place over the summer holidays. This is very exciting as it has been a long term project.
School Council ratified our Bring Your Own Device to School ~ BYOD Policy. As of next year, students in Grades 3 to 6 will be allowed to bring Apple products i.e. iPad and iPad mini to school. Recommended devices are an iPad 2 or higher with Wi-Fi capability and 16 GB of storage. They must be secured in a protective casing to ensure accidental damage is minimal. A copy of the policy will be sent home to families with our 2017 Booklists. Please note: parents/caregivers are not expected to go out and buy an iPad. Nor is this a leasing agreement with K.C.P.S. like many other schools do. It is simply, if you have such a device already at home then it can be brought to school. If this is not the case, students have access to our 22 school iPads or our laptops.
With the assistance of Peter Blake we are also developing a 10 year plan of our facilities.
Stay tuned for more developments from School Council.
On Thursday 17th November is our second Foundation Orientation Session
from 12.30pm to 3.15pm. Our new students will experience an afternoon session at school and more importantly lunch, which is very exciting. A big thank you to our buddies: Jakob, Josh, Harry Mc, Riley O & Jarred. Tuesday 6th December is a state wide Orientation Day where our Grade 6’s go to their secondary schools and all of our students have a day in their new grades for 2017.
Thank you to the clean up fairy who tidied up around our picnic tables by picking up the seeds that had fallen from the trees.
On Friday 2nd December Parents Club are hosting our annual Whole School Christmas Lunch in the Kialla Hall. A
permission note for your child/ren to attend this special event will be sent home this week. We need permission as we are leaving our school grounds despite the Hall being just across the road.
Also on Friday 2nd December is our K.C.P.S. Student Disco at the Kialla Hall from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. This event is free and only open to current students of our school from Foundation to Grade 6.
As you are aware we have some repairs happening out the front to our storm water pipes & also our sprinkler
system. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding during this time of
inconvenience.
Our Kialla Central Primary School Playgroup is now operating on a weekly basis for a gold coin donation. Every Friday from 9.30am to 11.30am current and new families are enjoying spending time together. A big thank you to Annette Hunt who has coordinated our program this year.
There are few people we need to thank for doing jobs around our school. Firstly, to John Kennedy for fixing our flagpole, Terry Dohnt for mowing our grounds and Graeme Mitchell for undertaking the list of maintenance jobs we had. I would also like to thank Graeme for coming to the rescue by pulling Ross Anderson’s truck out when he got bogged during our oval works on Monday.

F/1/2 CAMP PROGRAM On Thursday we went on a scavenger hunt and we played “mummies”. I got
dressed up as a mummy with toilet paper. These are the people who got to be
a mummy: Tristan, Cody, Charlie V, Axel, Blake, Spencer and Zoe. We went to
KidsTown and we played hide and seek. (Josh)
We went to KidsTown. I went in the maze. I made my way. It was hard, I
went down the big slide 10 times. We saw the signs that had the letters on
them. (Amali)
I like to go on the slide. (Chas)
We watched a movie and we did a mummy game. Me and Harry dressed in
toilet paper, as a mummy. (Isabelle)
Lots of people were at the activity night. It was fun. I can’t wait until I am in
Grade 2, then I will be sleeping over. (Cody)
I went to KidsTown and I played in the sandpit. (Kiya)
I liked to play the Mummy game. We wrapped one of our team mates in toilet
paper. It felt warm and I almost fell asleep. After that we went home and
after ten hours, I woke up at 6 o’clock and came back to school to have
pancakes. (Axel)
My favourite activity was the movie and I did a Scavenger Hunt. My favourite
was the Mummy game. We had to wrap people up in toilet paper, it was fun.
(Charlee K)
We played Scavenger Hunts. We had to find things outside that started with
the alphabet. Our team didn’t win, sadly. We played the Mummy game. I got
to be a mummy. We didn’t win sadly, again but I don’t care. We went to
KidsTown and I went on the big slide. I think I went on the slide 20 times and
the little slide about 10 times. (Tristan)
I loved the Mummy game and my team changed their mind about Rose being
the Mummy. They made me the Mummy because I was smaller and they
didn’t leave me a breathing hole. (Zoe)
F/1/2 CAMP PROGRAM On Thursday we all played a Mummy game. They wrapped me up in toilet
paper. I loved the movie “Adventures in Zambesia” and then there was another
short movie. We went to KidsTown. I had lots of fun there and I found a secret
place. Other people found it too but Axel found another one. (Spencer)
I went on the dinosaur, I went on the big slide and the little slide. It was fun.
We wrapped Josh up in a toilet as a Mummy. We had Miss H’s famous dim sims
and sausages. (Lily)
I went to KidsTown with my school. I went down the big slide. I went fast
down the slide. Axel hid. Isabelle chased me, Axel, Josh, Cody and Spencer. We
ran and ran. Isabelle did not find us. We ran in different directions. (Blake)
Thursday and Friday were GREAT days. On Thursday, after school, it was the
activity night and we played games. One was called the Mummy game and the
other one was called the Scavenger Hunt. When we played the Scavenger Hunt,
we had to go in teams. I was with Liam and Charlie V.
On Friday, it was the best day ever! We went to KidsTown and played on
everything. (Dhiseri)
